One other problem is that the writers seem to be taking bad fan ideas that were common in the fandom, and putting them in canon. As a result, no one is actually amused.

[up][up][up][up] I think people bash Tumblr because it is a popular place to post fan art, but it was also the scene of several infamous flame wars and butthurts. Remember the incident where a Steven Universe fan-artist attempted suicide because she was attacked by Tumblr users for making Rose Quartz "too thin"?

And also, it's worth noting that, while Nick Jennings and Bob Boyle are animation veterans, many of the artists are rookies, some even hired fresh out of college; the breed that grew up taking part in meme culture and whose institutions several stand-up comics were booed out of for their crass material. I remember a video CN posted where they interviewed a character designer who had a print-out of the "bee syrup" picture hanging in her cubicle.

Most likely they didn't include Bunny because it would require actually knowing about the original show. They most likely didn't remember the character and neglected to use them instead of an "SJW conspiracy". As for the character's design, given I'm fairly certain this is a one episode stunt, of course she'd look out of place. What annoys me is this vehement mocking of Tumblr which completely misses the point that this is just a dumb stunt and has fuck all to do with Tumblr.

Huh. Never really said anything abouy an SJW conspiracy. Just that the design is pretty reminiscent to common design stereotypes to Tumblr OCs. Which was lampshaded, ironically, on Tumblr with a guideline. Said guidelines has become a meme of sorts and used to mock other styles like Cal Arts or even Jack Kirby. Yeah Tumblr has nothing to do with the show, but you can't blame people for thinking said fourth girl reminds them of such OCs.

Also yeah I know this is a stunt, just like all those special episode of Teen Titans Go. It doesn't excuse the laughable fact that said character looks like a Mary Sue OC made on Deviant Art (y'know like all the other PPG ocs, especially that one made by Bleedman). I mean CN and news sites are making a big deal about it, so why not take away the power of such stunt by pointing out how the fourth PPG looks like a self insert a teenage fan would make just to be cool and hang out with their heroes they loved . . . that I would know anything about that.

[up] What you said basically. Hell, I used to post art on Deviant Art. Now I use Tumblr. And just like Deviant Art there are plenty of good reasons to complain about art on Tumblr; except eleven times worse due to Tumblr's lack system for content being made and even bigger drama scene.

Of course I have no idea of knowing but does it even seem likely that she's going to be an actual fourth member?

For better or worse they've already shown themselves willing to majorly change fixtures from from the old series. I'm not even saying this new character won't be a gimmick, but gimmicks can stick around.

I'm not saying they will keep her, I just think it's probably more likely than you're making it out to be. It doesn't mean they'll handle the development or character well.

Like I said, it'll probably wind up being the point that the character looks like a Mary Sue because it's mocking something. Of course that would require the show to have a good writer behind it for this episode. If it's permanent then I honestly don't know how I'd react, it just seems desperate to add a permanent fourth member. Could be interesting I guess.

[up] I don't know. I feel Teen Titans Go would be more suited to make fun of Mary Sue OCs than P Pg. I mean they have no qualms mocking fans of the show, might as well mock the crappy insert OCs they made. I know have . . . THIS DOES NOT CONFIRM THAT I DO MAKE OCS IN THE PAST NOR THAT I LIKED THE ORIGINAL TEEN TITANS CARTOON! I refuse to acknowledge it!

Anyway, I don't think the writers of the show is capable to make self referential Take Thats like that. Eapecially compare to the original who did (City of Clipsville, amirite).

Looking at promo images as well as the leaked shot it looks like she's taller than they are. Maybe the girls/the professor made her to be an older sister?

One thing's for sure, the 4th PPG is being some real Snark Bait for Pan-Pizza's Pizza Party Podcast. (Starts at 34:00.)

I mean, when it comes to the fourth PPG, is anyone else thinking this?

This is like that Family guy arc where they killed off Brian, brought in Vinny, and by the Christmas episode, retcon Brian back into the show via time travel. It's all a ratings stunt that nobody really cared for.

No, people definitely cared about killing Brian off, whether they thought it would be permanent or not.

Though I feel like they're going to get shit for this no matter what.

Phrasing like that is weird to me. No one "needs" or even "wants" any specific show until it actually exists.

[up][up]Apologies. What I mean is that it wasn't Samurai Jack where there was always a fan base demanding a final season. People considered PPG done after its last season of the original run was widely considered a Jump the Shark moment. It's like "Ok, this is here, I guess. Why?"

It's a reboot, not a sequel or continuation. Thus, simply remaking it could be for any number of reasons. Trying to capture a new audience with new ideas(which is obviously using new memes at times), putting out ideas they wanted to do but never did, a new artist looking to show off their interpretation of the series, etc.

Reboots aren't necessarily just about pandering to the original fanbase, and often are trying to get a new fanbase altogether, due to clearly not being the original or related to it(bar at best references to specific events, as a Mythology Gag).

But can't it actually be done right? Look at Duck Tales, it's a reboot and it actually keeps many aspects from the original. It doesn't pander and the personality changes work for the better. This show doesn't really do that.

The Ducktales reboot is definitely pandering. Remaking the theme song, intentionally bringing back Darkwing Duck, referencing Tale Spin as well. These are clear pandering tactics.

"Done right" is not a very good way to say it. That is entirely subjective as a term and depends the person. My bigger issue is the memes in this show are overused and fall flat. Not all memes are bad, but it needs better writing. This show doesn't need pandering so much as better jokes. Even TTG has some better jokes. Which is saying a lot.

Most reboots seem to have a reason for why they're coming in. An audience to tell a story to, to sell a product to, etc. Ducktales is sell a story to a new generation while being more faithful to the original European Duck comics. Samurai Jack was finish an incomplete story for an adult audience. Teen Titans Go was use a popular brand to make a low cost comedy show and have something kid focus as the rest of DC's animation output skewed towards adult one shot films. Powerpuff is...sell toys I guess, but then why make it a pseudo sequel? Why bring back the setting and characters if you're gonna change so much? It's more confusing than anything.

It's one thing to make something for yourself, but it's another thing to make it enjoyable for yourself. The mostly-millennial crew working on the show are trying to make the Powerpuff Girls into something they would like to see; eye candy like Miss Bellum was out, references to memes and trends they like are everywhere, and even Man-Boy is a gross caricature of neo-conservatism (men's rights activists, men who cry "snowflake").

It's basically official fan fiction.

[up]And That's why I can't enjoy this reboot, because the writers seem to be using it as a platform for a fanfic animation disguised as a reboot of something that never was about Millennial ideas.

I don't want to say it's a platform for social Justice again, like i did with "The Best", but the series certainly does lean that way.

[up][up]And even the most soulless corporate bigwigs would look at this and go "This is gonna sell toys how? By alienating a lot of our audience or at the very least their parents? We can't rely on nostalgia money, and we apparently can't rely on over half the audience because this is a glorified Author Tract. We already have one of those! What are we doing?"

That's what confuses me. "For the kids," or "to sell toys" makes sense to me from a corporate lens. Finishing an old story or redoing a story for a modern audience or to be more faithful to source material makes sense from an artistic one. This fails both tests.
