So, exactly what the title says. I've been asked to run D&D meets Star Wars. Which to me screams some kind of bridge between Spelljammer and Star Wars.

It will be set sometime during the movies instead of any of the EU eras.

What I'd like some help with is...

What caused the bridge and how do you travel between the two universes?

I feel like it should be pretty easy to travel so that you can have a good mixture of D&D monsters and Star Wars setting.

A couple of rules:

1) Star Wars technology cannot be enchanted. Mostly this is a game balance issue since the Star Wars weapons is way stronger than the D&D weapons. The fluff reason is that Magic in D&D is a science. It has been studied and tested and is designed to work with the technology found in D&D. Star Wars technology, being vastly different, does not respond to Magic the same way.

2) The bridge is fairly recent. Although there is a healthy dose of cross polination between the two settings. Most characters from one have not learned to use the technology of the other, although there are exceptions.

Any other ideas about what various factions (Hutts, Beholders, The Empire/Republic, Separatists/Rebellion, Ilithid, etc.) are doing given the sudden appearance of a new universe would appreciated.
