David Lynch your chance for glory returns!

Well it can't be worse than the mouse house's own Tron Legacy.

If episode 7 is a sequel they could make it far enough in the future that the original cast could reprise their roles. I wouldn't mind a passing the torch sort of thing if a good crew is behind it.

[up] THAT is amazing. Dammn Django is going to be a fountain of memes when it comes out.

You will never love a women as much as George Lucas hates his fans.

Only Chewie, C 3 PO and R 2 D 2 can be kept the same, really.

Not to mention Ford wants nothing to do with it.

I'm just hoping it's all a clever lie and they do something completely unexpected.

Fat chance of that happening. I'm voting nay on confidence of following the EU. Not only is it a mess, but they won't care.

As for the sale overall I am glad. Pessimistic about a movie every 3 years...

Kathleen Kennedy was an executive producer for Back To The Future and Jurassic Park, too of my favorite movies. Good. (reads imdb filmography). Also produced The Last Airbender. Not good.

Personally, I thought more Star Wars movies were inevitable, but I didn't expect plans to show up until well after George Lucas retired.

Oh no...

Maybe if I have low expectations it'll be great!

I'll give the new movies a chance, but I don't know if I'll ever consider them part of my personal Star Wars canon to be honest. I'm just too attached to George being at the helm. It just doesn't feel like Star Wars without him, to me.

It makes sense to pass it on to Disney, though. They've always been the most prominent player in wholesome family entertainment and they generally do a good job of re-releasing their classics.

[up] Add to the fact that once his kids would have inherited it, it would have been sold and scrapped. This way he'll die happier and allowed to walk in public without ridicule (in theory)

As someone else pointed out elsewhere is going to be very weird to not have the 20th Century Fox fanfare play at the start.

It'll be someone obscure who directs.

2 things: One, this either has the potential to be very good or very bad.

Two: They'll need to base this on some kind of Expanded Universe thing, because I doubt anyone from the prequels will return to do something. Then again the Yuuzhan Vong would probably be traumatic to kids, Legacy probably would too, the Clone Wars already has a cartoon and direct-to-video movie in addition to the miniseries...

The worst case scenario though is it ends up like Red Tails, where the director is some Lucas Sycophant and it has his fingerprints all over it.

The expanded universe is going to get thrown out so quick it will seem like lightspeed. Too many people have played with that train set.

Lucas probably has a cliff notes version of the new trilogy.

How could anyone from the prequels come back, though? All their characters are dead.

I guess Liam Neeson as a Force ghost might be able to do a voiceover or make an appearance, though — he certainly seemed willing to collaborate with Lucasfilm for the Clone Wars television series.

I loved Qui-Gon so I hope that happens.

I don't see this ending well. All I ask for is that, if this ends badly, it's not just the movie and franchise fading away, but something a little more spectacular, a clusterfuck that goes down in entertainment history. Let's see how big of a mess this ends up causing.

But imagine if it worked. Imagine if it worked The Next Generation style.

Imagine.

Imagine all the wookiees...

Oh, wait, nevermind. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I'm of the belief its likely they'll just retcon some of the post-movies EU to make room for the new movies (if it really is post-Episode 6). That, or like I said its really Knights of the Old Republic, which can only end in delicious fan rage.

Star Wars Episode VII: Attack of the lens flares.

I cried.

In other news, what the friggin' fudge Disney? 1984 much? Anyway, I really don't think there's any possible way to outdo the clusterfuck that is Midichlorians ...right?

I doubt we'll see any of the "racier" parodies of Star Wars anymore though. Disney's always been pretty obsessive about keeping their image squeaky clean, it seems to me.

I mean, can you imagine them approving Robot Chicken Star Wars? The parody of the Anakin-Padmé fireplace scene and the moment of Luke and Leia in bed together would get it denied approval.

Darth Mickey is now canon.
