I've finally gotten through the first three books of The Queens Thief, and rate the series very highly. Just beautifully written and such well done twists- while most obviously true of the first book, what makes the twists so well done is that the books always seem pretty straight forward and you don't even really expect a twist.

One little complaint I have is kind of bothered by how the Medes are presented so far as fairly simplistically evil. Hope that in a future book there will be some "POV" Mede characters to add some complexity.

Something I wondered, I tend to take a Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane view of the series. Does anyone else see it this way?

For instance, while it seems like that stone in the first book bestows immortality, as it is believed to, it also seems quite plausible that Gen was simply badly but not fatally injured during the time he had the stone. And while Gen and others think he talks to the gods and they talk back, I think that it could be interpreted as superstition impacting the characters' perspectives (although the third book seems to support the idea that Gen is really interacting with the gods).
