Max started to turn around, but his chest still hurt like hell. Seeing as he'd be of no use to those in back, he pressed his foot to the pedal.

"Still alive... Red?" he asked.

Gray and Dusk immediately stopped, though both growled angrily; Lisa had harmed one of them and they wanted retribution. Lisa scrambled out from under Gray, saying, "Oh stop whining." She turned around, swatting a young spider climbing up to the bed away before running her finger along the edge of the back of the jeep. A trail of fire, a little over half a foot tall, followed her finger, cutting off the small spiders from attempting to climb into the back of the jeep. Lisa then ran her right hand over her left arm where Gray had bitten her, before pulling Max's axe out of Gray's shoulder and healing that.

Lisa then moved towards the front of the jeep, but wavered slightly. "Ah jheeze, Doc needs to get out more" Lisa muttered, looking somewhat exhausted as she dropped the axe next to Max.

Recon's shot got the spider just as it leapt for Max, the body sent into the barb wire beside the former firefighter. Molly got two kills on adult spiders, though probably nicked a few young ones as well, before the pistol Recon handed her clicked empty; he'd just been firing them at a spider chasing him not long ago.

Max putting his foot down on the pedal did nothing; the engine still wasn't running. Trying to turn it on again accomplished nothing either. Apparently the engine needed attention after having the werewolf cave in the hood above it. Lisa was leaning over the passenger seat, checking Red as her walkie talkie piped up with Shevon's voice. (Along with everyone else who had theirs on and set to the hunter frequency) "Lisa, we've got some guys from U.N.A.M. here, and I think they've got eyes on the jeep. Can you keep it low profile there?" Shevon asked.

"Shevon, I need to get Red back to town or he's a goner. The engine's out, I have to fly" Lisa responded, grabbing her radio.

"Shit... Alright, I'll try something; hold off just a bit longer" Shevon said.

Meanwhile around them, another adult spider arrived, moving around to the left side of the jeep and looking for a way to climb up through/over the barb wire there. The one already in front of the jeep realized what its former buddy did and likewise climbed over using the young spiders as stepping stones. After emerging onto the hood, it advanced quickly towards Max. Away from the jeep, it looked like about fifteen more of the small adult spiders were left along with the big one; it also looked like most of them would be arriving at the jeep around the same time, first about six of the smaller ones approaching, then the rest behind them.

Town

"Well I'm gonna hope that was code, or else I'd say we got lucky enough to get a crazy U.N.A.M. squad commander. One moment" the sheriff said over the defender frequency, followed by a pause. (And her quickly radioing the jeep.) About ten seconds later, she came back. "Okay, uh actually, it would really help if we had you... What the fuck... Defending the West gate! Yes, definitely best if you helped hold the West gate, right now!" she continued, at first sounding a tad suspicious at first, followed by frantic at the end.

Earl's tactic with the smaller spider bodies found him chucking them at another small adult spider, climbing the side of the adjacent building. The first throw missed, but the second knocked it off, sending it down onto the barricade between the two buildings. Unfortunately it didn't die, just landed on its back and started struggling to get back upright. Shay's try with the larger spider over the edge sent it tumbling down into the ranks of young giant spiders at the base of the buildings, knocking a few off the side on the way down and squishing a number of them at the ground.

The officer who'd been speaking before glanced at Shay again, giving a nervous half shrug. "It's- like I said, things around here have been even weirder than usual lately" the officer said, sounding like he'd almost started one train of thought before switching. "Anyway, think you can help down at the gate like the sheriff said? We'll be fine up here now" he added, before glancing at the other officer, "won't we, Ken?"

'Ken' didn't respond, concentrating on defending with an expression like he was trying to keep from crapping his pants in fear.

Meanwhile, at said gate, the girl turned to Pyro, a little surprised to see him, before shaking her head. "I've sworn to keep her safe today! If the big spiders ain't threatenin' the wee big folk lass, I couldn't help ya'" the gnome answered before she could.

"Yeah, that" the girl muttered, looking contemplative as the gnome looked up.

"I think the decision's just been made for ya', wee big folk lass" the gnome said, motioning up. Above the two, several young spiders were already coming up over the edge of the gate, and started moving for her since she was the closest target. One even leapt down at her. In a near blur, the gnome suddenly went from on the girl's shoulder to on top of her head, and the leaping spider was met with a thrust letter opener. The girl winced, partially because the gnome had pulled on her hair doing that, and partially because a spider the size of her face had just jumped at her.

"Ah man! Why me?" the girl complained, starting to open the gate. As it came open, a bunch of young spiders came through, swarming along the ground. Many went for the girl, but the gnome jumped down from her head to the ground and met them, strafing back and forth and cutting spiders down as he did. A good portion of young spiders also swarmed towards Pyro. The girl only bothered getting the gate open enough for a person to walk through without needing to squeeze, then quickly got away from the gate controls; and by extension, away from the walls that spiders were climbing down above her.

If Pyro looked up, he'd see some woman in a brown police highway patrol uniform with an AA12 in one hand and walkie talkie in the other looking down at the situation from the edge of the adjacent building. She had a baseball cap over her shoulder length black hair that read 'Sheriff', and was just finishing the second message to Gil as she looked down. (Since parts of this post happen simultaneously.)

“Roger that, Sheriff,” Gil said, “On my way, over.” He took one of his own comms, fiddled with its frequency dial, then returned the other one to the officer.
“Come on, Earl!” he said as he climbed down the ladder.

Recon handed Molly the spare pistol clips he had before getting to work on the adult spiders. He shot at the closest first, working his way back.

If he clicked empty, he'd reload.

"Ok, cool, if you're sure...." Shay replied, 'Ken's' nervousness not exactly leaving him with an easy feeling. Shrugging, he followed Gil and Earl to the West Gate, reasoning that they would know where it was, since he hadn't exactly been paying attention as to which way they were going.

Molly nodded her thanks and reloaded, before firing at the arachnids, she turned, seeing the one threatening max and she shot at it several times.

Pyro nodded, "This, is a problem." He quickly backed away, kneeling so he could take out one of his Molotovs, he took out his lighter, lit it and threw it at the massive wave of spiders.

"I'll catch up. I'm going to make sure these guys are okay before going." Earl called back to Gil as he and Shay climbed down the ladder - looking for one last desperate ploy to stay on the defensible rooftop and not die on the streets fighting demons and spiders. He aimed carefully and fired at the spider that he just knocked down and then switched to full auto and unloaded the rest of his clip on the spiders below.

"You alright there Ken?" he asked as he was swapping his now-spent magazine with his looted one in his bag.

Da Jeep
Max coughed as he fought the pain in his chest, and silently cursed his luck - if the jeep was trashed now, his only other option was to shoot things. He held out his rifle as he stood up in the seat, half-sitting on the back rest, and pulled the trigger, and kept pulling it as he aimed at the body of the adult spider on the hood.

Battlefield

"Alright, I think you're good to go now" Shevon said over the hunters' frequency; Lisa didn't bother responding, busy grabbing Red and hoisting him up, preparing to carry him along. She had to wait as people were firing about and she'd have to spread her wings.

Molly's shots got a few young ones, before focusing on the one on the hood. She clipped a couple of its legs and did some damage to its body, putting fresh new holes near the front of the hood; but Max's bursts ultimately finished it, the barrage of rifle caliber bullets overkilling the spider.

Recon's shots started with the adult spider that had come up to the side of the jeep, since that one was ultimately the closest; (to him specifically, anyway) that one was easy, since it was at practically point blank and not really moving around. After that would have been the one on the hood, had Molly and Max not already taken care of it, so next came the approaching group. These relatively smaller adults were fast and jittery though, and the fact that they were simply bigger forms of moving legs and black eyes amongst a whole mass of moving legs and black eyes didn't help; (Recon's thermal wouldn't make a difference. If anything, it would make distinguishing the adults even harder.) still though, Recon's shots were more than enough to down one when they did hit, and even his misses still pegged some of the young ones. In all he took down three of the front six before he had to reload.

When Recon and Molly both clicked empty, Lisa spoke up. "Alright, watch your fire for a moment" Lisa said, stepping her feet, again turned into talons, up onto the main bar just behind the front seats, and spreading out her wings. Holding Red via her arms hooked under his armpits, Lisa started flapping her wings quickly, bobbing her body with the movement before kicking off, slowly lifting up into the air with more flapping.

In this time, the three frontmost adult spiders reached the jeep. For the third time, one climbed up to the hood using younger ones as stepping stones, and like the one before, targeted Max, since he was the closest person to target. The second actually tried leaping up, aiming perhaps for Molly or Recon in the back, or maybe for Red since Lisa was lifting him up in the air; unfortunately for it, its two rearmost legs caught the barb wire, and it did the spider equivalent of a belly flop onto the hood of the jeep. There it started struggling, trying to pull its legs out of the barb wire so it could attack one of the jeep occupants.

The third weirdly enough just went right under the front of the jeep. Max, since he was still pretty much in the driver seat and thus close to the engine compartment, and Molly, since she had enhanced hearing, would both hear clanking and shifting noises coming from the engine compartment; the spider had apparently climbed in from underneath, and was now looking for a way through. It would probably fail.

Town

After climbing down, Gil and Shay would probably be able to figure that since they were near the South side of the Western side of town, the gate was probably North of them, since there was more of the West side in that direction. Going that way, they would see Pyro backing into view in the street ahead of them, preparing his molotov.

Pyro's plan worked, engulfing the opening of the gate in fire and torching a lot of young giant spiders. Some had already passed the area he torched and thus were spared, but they were few enough in number that when they reached him, he could just stamp and kick his feet to kill them.

The fire kept any more from coming through the gate, at least for now, but unfortunately they were spiders; they didn't have to come through the gate. Plenty were still climbing over the gate and along the walls of the adjacent buildings. The young ones weren't much of a problem, being easy enough to kill by hand/foot even when they did reach someone, but the adults still posed a threat; especially to anyone busy fighting off the younger ones. Two adults had come over the gate as well, looking to capitalize on the situation just like that. One went for the ground via the wall, while the other cut out the middle ground by leaping through the air towards Pyro, just as the younger ones that escaped his fire were reaching him. This happened pretty much right as Gil and Shay had reached the area.

Meanwhile back at the roof they'd left behind, Earl was able to finish off the incapacitated spider easily; his full auto follow up didn't get any more adult spiders, but picked off a number of younger ones. Officer Ken gave a half-hearted nod to Earl's question. "Oh you know, super! I was really looking forward to a Deceiver being summoned one town over and a flood of spiders attacking today!" Officer Ken said sarcastically, his tone just like his voice; that of a man trying desperately not to be screaming in terror. There was a shift though as he glanced up and let out a quiet, "oh, shit." There was pretty much no way for Earl to miss what officer Ken had seen. Though there was a combination of buildings, barricades, a barely open town gate, and fire blocking the view for Gil, Shay, and Pyro, there was no such block between Earl and the succubus taking off in the jeep.

Attention grabbing was the fact that the succubus was doing her own grabbing, of a limp person she was lifting out of the jeep. Less attention grabbing but still perhaps noticeable was the fact that nobody else in the jeep seemed to be trying to stop her; or at least weren't bothering to shoot her with the guns they clearly had. (The gunshots coming from the jeep would still be distinct, even over all the other gunshots from the defenders and spider screeching.) Both officers turned their heads to Earl. That was perhaps to be expected; he was the only U.N.A.M. guy nearby now, after all. What probably wasn't as expected were their expressions. One could expect them to be waiting expectantly for him to do something; while they were clearly waiting for him to do something, their expressions were more that of worry and nervousness. Officer Ken in particular had a look like that of a child who'd just spotted one of their parents spotting the broken cookie car across the room. What Earl took from all this depended on him of course.

Gil dropped to a crouch and switched the safety to single round. He steadied his aim and compensated for the flying spider's momentum, then took a breath and held it.
He pulled the trigger, feeling the loud balloon-popping sound of the M4 firing in his chestbone and hoping his shot would be enough to kill if not stun the leaping spider.

Molly turned to Max, "Start the jeep on!" She reversed her grip on the pistol, using it like a club on any spiders, "Recon! Ammo!"

Pyro grinned, a psychotic, harsh, laugh escaped his throat as he watched all the little bastards fly. The laugh and grin both changed into a scream that was less harsh and psychotic and more high-pitched school girl when he noticed there was a spider about to bite the remnants of his face off, he quickly jumped to the side, firing at it's center of mass. Stopping on a baby spider with a look of annoyance on his face.

"Shit!" Earl repeated after Ken as he too saw the succubus. He didn't really notice the lack of firing from the Jeep as his main concern was the succubus that was now flying towards town. It looked like the succubus had a human (probably male from the way it looked to Earl) in her grasp and was most likely beginning her "seduce him to death" phase. Earl both envied and pitied the guy.

He was a good shot but he didn't think he could peg the succubus without hitting her captive too. The man was probably dead anyway but Earl definitely did not want to deliver a killing blow to an innocent. Besides, even if he did manage to hit her accurately, the human would just fall to his death without the succubus keeping him in the air. Thus, he just resigned himself to point his gun at the demon but did not fire. He also noticed Ken's and the other officer's looks - mistaking the guilt on their faces for fear. He nodded sympathetically - to show, he too, was worried.

"This is just perfect." the conscript said sarcastically, keeping his gun pointed at Lisa. "And, of course, I'm down to my last mag. You two wouldn't happen to have any extra guns or ammo with you now, would you?"

Battlefield

Max's axe swing got the incoming spider in the side of the head, killing it thoroughly. Molly's pistol whipping kept the other spider on the hood even more busy, already dealing with its rear-most legs tangled in barb wire; but it didn't really damage it. It did, however, finally clue Dusk and Gray in to the fact that their pack leader was taking a hostile stance against the spiders. Gray leapt over Lisa's little wall of fire to exit the jeep, and together with Dusk they started trampling and pouncing on younger spiders near the back of the jeep.

Recon's follow up shot as Molly stopped to reload finished off the spider on the hood. Next his attention would go to the last of the approaching adult spiders, and would fire until about half his mag was spent, and three more of the smaller adult spiders dead.

A total of seven adult spiders reached the jeep, and fanned out. Six were smaller ones of course, and two moved to the front; one managed to climb up quickly, but was overshadowed by the large adult jumping onto the hood, standing over it. It lumbered forth, moving for Max, as the second of the smaller ones actually jumped onto the back of its rear and started climbing over it. Two of the smaller adults moved to the left side of the jeep, trying to get at the driver side door and the back respectively. The one outside the driver door was having no luck but the one at the back started finding a way up using smaller spiders that had clogged up the barb wire there. The last two went around the right, one stopping at the right side to try and find a way up onto the bed, but was having difficulty; the other kept moving around, spotting Dusk and Gray and leaping onto Dusk, biting into his back and making him release a howl.

Town

Gil's shot hit the mark, going in the side of the leaping spider's head and bursting its face out. Pyro was able to get out of the way but still got a little spray of spider blood on him; if he still chose to shoot at the already dead spider was up to him. (Might make him feel better.) Only a couple moments later, a detachment of young spiders had noticed Gil and were now moving to him, trying to simply swarm onto him and start biting him. (Again, not that they could really kill him, but they were easily distracting and could bog him down; that and the bites would continue to burn for at least a day.)

Climbing up the nearest ladder put Shay up on the building on the other side of the gate than the building with the sheriff on it; there was also an African American man in a bulletproof vest wearing an old flat brimmed hat up there, holding an M16 and standing on part of the roof where he wasn't visible from the street. On the rooftop Shay had climbed was a couple more defenders, again over at the side where they couldn't really be seen from the street. Both were men in similar attire to the African American across the way; one had a light machinegun and was just shooting a giant spider off his comrade, who had dual revolvers. Thankfully that seemed to be the only spider up there, even the young ones not currently bothering due to barb wire across parts of the edge.

Of course there was giant spiders to concentrate on, so moving over to one corner of the roof, Shay could see the adult spider moving along the wall towards Gil and Pyro. Spending about half his mag, Shay was able to pepper the spider's side until it fell off the wall, hitting the ground and curling up, dead. If Gil looked up, he'd see the succubus coming in, swooping towards the roof across from him and still holding the man in her grip.

Plenty of the spiders had been screeching during all this fighting, but a louder, slightly deeper screech would get the attention of Gil, Pyro, and Shay, as one of the larger adult spiders came climbing up over the top of the gate. Its body was about the same size as a Human one, and it jumped down to the ground, where it then started moving towards Pyro and Gil.

Meanwhile, Earl's question to the two officers got them to glance at each other, then the one with the assault rifle looked back at him. "No guns, but here" the officer said, pushing one of the ammo boxes they had by the edge of the roof towards Earl; the U.N.A.M. conscript might then realize the officer had the same kind of gun as him. While the box didn't have any magazines, it had tons of rounds. The officer then turned back around, directing his attention to the spiders while Earl did whatever with the ammo; some short bursts later and the officer had downed three more adult spiders.

Officer Ken had started aiming his shotgun towards the succubus, but hadn't fired. "I... I can't get a clear shot because of the guy" Officer Ken said, just a bit nervously.

((OOC:Yesterday ended up unexpectedly distracted, and I got some bad writer's block for this RP. We can probably assume that Gil is currently clearing himself of the young spiders aggressing him, so I can move along a bit here.))

Battlefield

Max's axe wedged into the large spider, as behind him Recon prioritizing those closest would again get the spiders trying to get up onto the jeep bed; two shots later and he ones on both sides were down. The large spider however, was not dead, screeching deeply in anger and bringing itself down on Max. Its large fangs sunk into the former firefighter's right shoulder, and lifted him up, presenting a problem for Recon as the mercenary turned that way; by holding Max with its fangs and rearing up, Max was blocking any shot to be made on it.

Before Recon could come up with any solution for this dilemma, the smaller spider on the larger one's back moved forward and leapt off, smacking into Recon's mask and trying to dig its fangs in the side of his face; it failed, but left a scratch line on his left lens as one of its fangs ran over it.

Behind Recon, Molly had jumped over the fire at the back of the jeep, out to where the two dire wolves were. She grabbed the spider on Dusk, smacking and dazing it with her pistol before tossing to the ground. The ground covered in young spiders... That's about where her plan fell apart.

Being Human, as far as they spiders could tell in her current form, they swarmed her. Molly became acutely aware of just how little protection having nothing on but a 'metal bikini' and getting out of the vehicle granted; within moments, no less than eight separate spiders were biting her legs, with plenty more climbing and jumping to higher regions of her body to claim more spots to bite. Her growl hadn't come out, there being too much pain and burning happening; even if she did manage to bring her heel down on the spider, its exoskeleton was enough to protect it from her Human strength.

Gray however, had dire wolf strength and claws to rely on, and pounced on the spider. Quickly her claws and teeth had dug into it, finishing it off for Molly. Dusk turned, swiping a pair of spiders off of one of Molly's legs, then biting a spider off her other leg; all carefully avoiding actually hitting Molly. He also barked, insistently, "alpha predator! Alpha predator not alpha prey!" It seemed to be directed at Molly.

As for the other spiders, the one beneath the large one on the hood moved forward, crawling around Max's right side towards Recon. The one just outside his driver side door gave up trying to find a way through the barb wire and moved towards behind the jeep where Molly and the dire wolves were. The spider that had crawled up into the engine came back out on the right side and decided to do the same.

Town

The two caravan guards turned to Shay, a little surprised since they hadn't seen him come up. "Who the heck-" the one with the light machinegun started to ask, but was cut off by his partner.

"Who cares, we can deal with that later" the one with dual revolvers stated, and headed over to Shay, motioning for his buddy to follow. The two came over to the roof edge and looked down, seeing the large spider. Pyro had gotten its attention, dealing some damage and blowing a couple of its side eyes out. It screeched in defiance and reared back, before charging at Pyro with renewed fury.

The fury was a little cut short when LMG and revolver rounds started pegging the top of its abdomen though, riddling it with holes and weakening its charge. Until finally, its last step turned into a sort of sideways stagger, and it hit the ground. With a growl, it tried to get up, but then Pyro drove his shiv into one of its central eyes, finishing it.

Meanwhile, down South in the defensive line, Earl's shots into the crowd got some more of the little ones, but nothing significant; there didn't seem to be any adults left besides the ones people were currently struggling with or facing off against, besides those out at the jeep. Turning back to the right towards where the succubus was heading, he'd see she was definitely swooping down to one of the rooftops along the edge, but from here he couldn't tell exactly which one.

Shay would though, if he directed his attention to the building just on the other side of the gate again. Because there she landed, still out of sight of those on the ground. At this distance, he'd even be able to tell who it was; that girl from near the helicopter, with the color changing vest. Now though she had no vest on, (or anything on above her waist besides her hat, for that matter) and instead sported large, bat like wings from her back. That was a dead giveaway as a vampire or a succubus; it may be well overcast today, but even so a vampire coming out during the day was unlikely, no matter the weather. And succubi illusion abilities would explain the changing vest earlier. She just landed right in the center of the roof, out of sight of those on the ground, and took a piece of chalk out of a pocket to start working on a circle next to the incapacitated man she'd brought in.

Perhaps most perplexing though was the fact that the other two people on the roof, the sheriff and the caravan guard, both clearly knew she was there and couldn't possibly not realize what she was, yet they weren't doing anything about it. The sheriff yelled something at her over her shoulder, lost over the noise of combat, then turned her attention right back over the side of the building to fire her AA12 at the swarm of young spiders going for the other girl who had been at the helicopter. The one also being defended by a gnome.

Recon grunted in annoyance and grabbed for the spider to smash it again.

He then grabbed for Max to yank him out of the way, his other pistol already in his other hand to dispatch the large spider. His Pancor was holstered on his back again.
