So I wanted to read a bit more about Dark Beast and this got me interested in finally reading all about the AOA!verse. I love alternate universes so much more than main continuity stuff.

Anyway, I found a list of the comics from the olden days but Wiki mentions new comics taking place in the universe? Also Dark Beast is apparently back in said universe.

Does anybody have the relevant issue numbers? Does it have its own series or anything?

Yes it does. An ongoing. Called Age of Apocalypse. Meanwhile in 616 Ao A Nightcrawler is hunting down Ao A villains who escaped to 616 like Blob, and Iceman.

I can't say I've been impressed by the current Age of Apocalypse series. Prophet and his people have just come across as a bunch of Mary Sues, never failing, and having everything that happens fit perfectly into their plans. It's gotten ridiculous.

I haven't read the new Age of Apocalypse series. I have most of the trades for the original story (decent, I think), but the ten-year anniversary revisit was bad. I didn't like Chris Bachalo's artwork and the story's mood doesn't mesh with the bleak. war-ravaged wastelands that the original story portrayed.

I didn't read any of the new Ao A stories, but the original Ao A was when I first got into seriously collecting the X-comics and I loved them. I especially liked X-Man, Astonishing X-Men (the one that had Sabretooth, Blink, and Rogue, IIRC), and X-Calibre.
