Not sure how that's possible. Lighting, texture resolution, reflections, particles, physics, high poly models - all of these have their individual resource drain and if a game is optimized to look best with everything on it usually doesn't have much left underneath.
Prime example:
And this is quite an old game.

And we have art on the Gladiator and my new favorite the Retaliator. Damn, but if that isn't the best ship design I've seen in a long time!

I've finally got my SC system up, but I still haven't gotten around to actually installing the hangar. I'll see about that on my next day off, I guess.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpFor those that aren't following the game, or are on the fence about getting in on it; CIG is running a series of sales over the next week and a bit for all of the limited ships, and are including LTI for all backers.

I bought it and will never be able to play it, in all likelyhood.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged Men3
,
Why? Because of the system requirements?
I'm not intending for my next PC upgrade to have the requirements for Star Citizen, they're pretty insane. But I don't doubt that sufficiently powerful machines will be cheaper some years down the road (and the game itself may be cheaper, too). The real question then is how many people will still be playing the game at that point, and how much the gameplay relies on player-player interaction. I like games that can be played solo, but of course, game studios find it more lucrative to try to force players to the next game as quickly as possible.

I'll never be able to afford a computer that can run the game.
I'm actually running the dogfight module just fine on a fairly low-end graphics card (Radeon 7770, under $100 these days). Granted, the rest of my PC is pretty damn good, and it's at minimum settings, but it works.
Actually, I just ran some benchmarks. I've got a radeon 7770, an intel core i5 4670k overclocked to 4.4ghz, and 8gb ram. At 1280x720 on low settings, I'm averaging 55 frames per second in the hangar and about 38 in the dogfight module. CPU usage is stable at about 35% throughout both. This is before optimization, so you should be OK to at least get the game open even on a low end system.

The earliest backers have Pv P dog fighting and they're going to be phasing in groups of backers by date of pledge as server stability allows.
So...What...Is this game exactly?
From what I understand, it's supposed to be some sort of MMO space simulator along the lines of EVE online with PC melting graphics, that will (allegedly) also have FPS gameplay and open exploration. It also seems to be the most ludicrous example of Bribing Your Way to Victory, with pretty much every worthwhile ship being as much as a normal game, and I've heard the promises the developer has been making would make Peter Molyneux blush.

This is a signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.![]()
Oh, don't be so cynical. Just because this game's been in dev for 4 years doesn't necessarily mean it's gonna fail; Elite Dangerous and Team Fortress 2 both were in dev for several years and yet they turned out to be fantastic games. (Or, at the very least, Team Fortress 2 did in any case as Elite Dangerous is still in open Beta.) I've seen what Chris Roberts did with the Wing Commander and Privateer games as well as Starlancer and I wouldn't put it above him to deliver on his promises as he has a lot of players banking on him and he knows what will happen if he fails to deliver.
