I'm not pledging any farther (Not without LTI, plus I have no money), but I REALLY want a Starfarer. It looks awesome.

If you pledged at all before the 6th you get LTI on anything you buy thru November.

Someone in my Pathfinder group went all-out, he even has an Idris. Can't wait to see his.

Okay, this was definitely worth the wait. I'm also really surprised my computer didn't try to kill me when I switched the graphics to the highest settings.

At least Chris isn't saying "Hey, our audience has a cosmic ton of processing power so let's just forget about optimization!" like big European dev houses do so often.

ninjaxenomorph, don't feel too bad. They tried to demonstrate the hangar at the SC panel at Dragoncon, using the laptop that had the presentation files, and it CTDednote  the first time around. tongue

Now that I've actually gotten around to downloading it, I find that (yet again) I'm disappointed.

No, not because it sucks, but because I'm not even close to being able to run it. sad

Minimum requirements:

  • Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8
  • DirectX 11 graphics card with 1GB Video RAM
  • Quad core CPU
  • 8GB Memory

My system: XP-32, on-board vid card with 256MBnote , dual core CPU, 2GB memory.

Well I'll definately be able to run it, but what has me worried is that those are the minimum requirements. What the heck are the optimal settings gonna be like?!

You really don't need all that much. My computer can run it in 1920X1080 at maxed graphics and the graphics card maxes out at 75ºC, admittedly the game runs at ~15FPS(~5 with the connie on screen).

Ah, that explains my PC's failure. It barely has two cores, let alone four.

Chris is taking the oft-used argument that P Cs are far more powerful than consoles seriously. I expect the minimum requirements to have ballooned to somewhere beyond the PS 4's absolute limits by the time beta finally starts.

The irony here is that he's using Cry Engine 3 to develop the game. You'd think he'd have picked up from Crytek them that selling games which require a juggernaut of a PC to run efficiently results in only a small, whiny group of Ultra-Rig enthusiasts actually purchasing it, and the rest either ignoring or pirating it.

He's not interested in making a game that can sell to the widest audience possible.

He wants to show that PC enthusiast gaming is not dead.

[up]I wish him the best of luck with that. Because not only is he dealing with a very small audience, but they're an incredibly picky and finicky one, at that. I just don't see the amount of time and resources he's putting into this ever making a decent return or impact.

It should be noted that the hangar module is completely unoptimized and the final system requirements will likely be lower than they are now.

[up][up]

Their team has made 20 million dollars that is all theirs to spend (no publisher bullshit) due to said PC Fanbase.

Also this game will have a massive online factor to it, pirating it will give you very little return.

This doesn't make any sense to me. Surely "PC enthusiast gaming" should just mean people who prefer P Cs to play games, rather than people who own a NASA supercomputer, right?

And most people I know who play Space Sims aren't the same kinds that care about ultra pretty graphics.

On the other hand, having to buy new hardware to play a WC game is kind of a signature, so to speak, of his. tongue
