I would have major respect for this show if it turned out the evil King and Shiro were always one and the same and the fact that we see is willing to lie here could be foreshadowing for something bigger further down the way.

Sadly that doesn't seem likely, as Shiro thought aloud in Episode 2 that 'the person in the video seems so real, like it's actually me'.

I've known about it since the beginning. But I just refused to believe it.

That was one of my theories too, that the evil king is Yashiro from the recent future.

-looks at thread-

Is this show going to be the next Madoka in SPECULAH levels or something?

(yeah, I know that's a massive exaggeration for what's been posted so far, but just sayin')

I shall make it a bit closer.

Here are my personal theories (as of Episode 2):

Yashiro Isana's Identity: I'll dump the usual theories here first, the ones that most people would've thought of at first glance —

  • Evil Twin/clone/doppelganger
  • Split Personality (Currently I believe this is probably what the show will do, as it's been proven that Yashiro knows nothing about what is going on as of Episode 2, and the duality of the black and white K's in the title logo shows some kind of "black-and-white morality" thing going on here - the creators hae said the duality wasn't about Kuroh vs Shiro, so it might very well be Good Shiro vs Evil Shiro.)
  • Demonic Possession (I really, really hope it's not this. It'll be lame if the ending turned out to be omg Adolf K. Weisman was the true culprit all along and he possessed Yashiro just to frame him.)
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia

More far-fetched theories:

  • Evil!Shiro is Shiro from the recent future, who is, well, evil - and time-traveled back to "wait for someone".
  • Shiro is evil, hands down. He was lying about not remembering anything and not killing anyone. Also, he knew about the Neko thing, which was why he said in Episode 2 that "I have no idea what's going on" in his room - because he wanted Neko to hear and be convinced that he's innocent. In short, he is a downright Magnificent Bastard Affably Evil Villain Protagonist.
  • Shiro is evil, but doesn't remember it. He performed a Memory Gambit so that people won't suspect him, because he doesn't even suspect himself.
  • Shiro is not the real Shiro! This can work in various ways - most of which link to Shiro being a Magnificent Bastard - one of which being Shiro taking the place of the real Shiro and modifying everyone's memories accordingly, so that he has some kind of real-world identity to back on if Homura ever catches him.

Who is going to be the main villain? By now we all know that no matter how violent Homura might seem at first glance and how scheming SCEPTER 4 might seem, it's still highly unlikely that Mikoto or Munakata Reisi will turn out to be the real villain(s). So who's the real villain of the story?

Personally, I think the worst way the story can go is to make Adolf K. Weissman the main villain. I mean, seriously now. His name is Adolf. He has long white hair and laughs sadistically and is the First King. If he turns out to be the culprit with everything being so blatantly obviously pointing towards him I'm going to become sorely disappointed. The second last episode is titled Adolf K. Weissman, so I'm getting a bit afraid there. The worst case scenario I can think of will be that Adolf was the real culprit, and he possessed Shiro to frame him in the video, just like what I said above. That'll be lame.

Then, there's Evil!Shiro. If hopefully it doesn't turn out that Evil Shiro was just Shiro being possessed by Weissman or something equally corny, Evil!Shiro is probably going to be the big bad of the story. He shoots poor Tatara, that poor soul. And he probably killed Kuroh's master too. If the anime tries to follow the typical cliche and have the entire anime be about banishing Shiro's Superpowered Evil Side, that'll be pretty lame too. That's why I'm crossing my fingers hoping that the split personality/evil side theory doesn't hold true, because it can get pretty disappointing due to how often it's used.

Then another theory of mine is that Ichigen Miwa has something to do with all this. You know, Kuroh's master? Nobody confirmed that he is dead. He is the colorless king BEFORE Evil!Shiro usurped him. But what if Evil!Shiro never usurped him? And Ichigen Miwa WAS the guy in the video. Dum dum dum dum! And then there'll be this odd link between Ichigen and Shiro that we never knew about. Although that kind of intersects with Evil Twin / Split Personality so it can get pretty disappointing too.

In the end, my favourite theory about the antagonist of the story is still Yashiro himself. I think it'll be badass and really interesting if this story would have a villain protagonist who knows how to manipulate things and become an epic Chessmaster without all that split personality bull.

Miscellaneous: I strongly believe that Anna is probably going to turn out to be Shiro's little sister. You know, Shiro lied about a little sister in Episode 2? Somehow I think that's going to end up turning out to be an Accidental Truth, and it'll turn out later that Shiro actually does have a little sister all along. Why? Anna and Shiro both have white hair, for one, and they look quite alike (then again, Shiro and Neko look dangerously alike too). Also, Anna doesn't seem to have any real family (Mikoto probably isn't his family, as 100 Visuals sort of reveals that Anna has some kind of obsession and precocious crush on Mikoto, which means he's probably not her uncle or brother or something), as if she's just picked up from somewhere. And due to the white hair thing, I'm also inclined to think that they both have something to do with Weissman, somehow.

I've known about it since the beginning. But I just refused to believe it.

If there is time travel as a major plot point, or if it gets way too angsty for no reason (as opposed to for good reasons, not just to be melodramatic), I will drop the series. Otherwise, I will keep watching.

I wouldn't mind if evil!Shiro is Shiro from another dimension. Interdimensional travel can be cool (unlike time travel).

Also, with all the magic in this series, it dosn't have to be someone possessing Shiro-it could just be somebody who used this anime's equivalent of polyjuice potion.

What about clones?

In episode one I thought the MC wasn't supposed to be a student in the school because he didn't have the device the others used to identify themselves and get in and out. Sure he could have simply forgotten it when he went to the classroom...but then we see him figuruing out how to leave without needing it. Of course, the fact that he has an apartment and keys makes this harder to be true.

He also never brings his own lunch.

(Also, I understand not being able to get into the school without the PDA, but out of it? They can't just stop students from leaving school when class is over. just bugs me)

[down]Exactly. What kind of system is that? Why would they need i.d. to leave the building? Maybe to make sure they don't leave early, but the teachers should notice that.

[up]Actually we see some girls using their PDA to leave seconds before they specifically show us Shiro using a strange side door to leave instead of doing so like everyone else, using some keys...

[up]So the teachers can control who's still inside and who's not? My college does the exact same thing: I need to show my student i.d to leave.

I think he really did forget his ID, and that the scene of him casually sneaking out the side door was meant as a characterization point, not a plot point.

[up][up]But they can...by taking attendance. Your college is strange. We only need i.d. to enter our dormitories and to swipe for meals. And we had no i.d. in high school. And it was a large high school.

Attendance! They have small classes.

But whether or not I agree with the methods of K's high school and your college is irrelevant. tongue

[up] Yeah, that might be. (I'd still prefer a Memory Gambit though, that sounds more badass.)

Oh yeah, anyone knows what Evil!Shiro did to the gun salesman guy (the one who got beaten up by Homura in Episode 1) that made him not remember Shiro (according to Anna at least) getting the gun from him? Because if he really doesn't remember, it might imply that Evil!Shiro has the ability to manipulate memories...

I've known about it since the beginning. But I just refused to believe it.

The point I wanted to make with the pda before we derailed it was that maybe there's an important reason why he doesn't have one (such as he isn't a student and the apartment isn't his). Just pointing this out so that, in case this turns out to be true, I can shout "Called it" ^^

[up]But are we sure that was the right gun salesman? If it was, then it was a memory wipe as you've pointed out or the evil king can turn into/look like different people at will.

This show is...Well, I can't put my finger on it, but...

-It's like EVERY CHARACTER is a 13-year-old's idea of the COOLEST GUY EVER, and it's awesome. My only problem is that there's so much obvious and repressed homolust, it makes every scene a trifle awkward to watch.

The backgrounds and animation is incredibly gorgeous, but I'm getting a very Guilty Crown vibe.
