A cartoon series with a bee as the main character? Interesting. I thought the new The Hive series was the only one.
And it was actually an adaption of a German novel from the beginning of the 20th century. Some of the most popular characters, like Willi, a bee with speech impediment or the grasshopper Flip, are exclusive to the cartoon.

It's also partly an anime, since a Japanese studio worked on it. It was a Japanese-German-Austrian co-production, on which also an American artist from Hanna-Barbera participated. On top of that, the very well-known German theme song was sung by a Czech. Pretty international, that bee.

BTW Nyarly, that superhero show with a guy disguised as a butterfly you were talking about last page ? I think you're talking about The Tick.

Also, I vaguely (VERY vaguely) remember a sci-fi version of "20,000 leagues under the sea" (called "20,000 leagues in space"... Which actually isn't very impressive, when Fridge Logic kicks in). The CG Is were absolute crap. Also, there was another series I remember which focused on a group of stunt actors fighting crime or something... It was called "Cascadogs" in France, but I have no idea what its original name could have been.

Huh, seems to be more popular than I thought. Also, it kinda makes me want to see it again, even though I never saw it much even back then.

But The Magician really doesn't seem to have much popularity, still there is a page here. Had no idea that it's French.

Oz Kids, an Oz spinoff dealing with the children of the original protagonists. Apparently it was made by the same crew behind The Brave Little Toaster, since the character designs were very reminiscent of those movies, and Toasty and pals even got a cameo in one of the episodes.

Oh come on; Bic and Bac kicked ass.

The two are at least a few thousand years old, too.

Pity I can't seem to find a good translation of the lyrics...

Well, there was an English version, which is the one that I listened to.

Isn't the same thing - the English version can often vary a fair bit from the original.

While searching for the English version of that song, I came across this. I hope it's enough for you tongue.

Also, anyone remember this?

@purplefishman: Hey, don't diss the CGI of 20,000 Lieues dans l'Espace, alias Space Strikers: it was 1995!

PS: Apparently, "Cascadogs" was Stunt Dawgs. Does ring a bell, but didn't watch.

What about BraveStarr? I have no idea if it was known or not.

I remember watching The Legends Of Treasure Island cartoon when I was young. On video, but still.

The Legends Of Treasure Island, I've heard a couple mention it around here, but otherwise seems to be obscure. Basically an In Name Only adaptation with Funny Animals and loads of WTF supernatural stories. Fun in places with lots of interesting ideas, but watching it now at an older age, it was admitedly kind of a mess in terms of story execution.

GAH! Someone said it first!

Diego y Glot, a Chilean cartoon about a kid and his green dog. Too localized to export anywhere, and kinda not good enough for anything, it followed the lives of those two, and the kid's family and friends, pretty standard fare stuff, and pretty unremarkable other than the in-jokes, I'd say.

Apparently it's obscure enough for most episodes to be up on Youtube with nobody caring about taking them down, judging from the search I just did. Feel free to look it up if you can understand Spanish.

Also, there was Villa Dulce, but don't look that one up, it was awful. There was also a CGI one about some dumb kids in a rap band with a talking dog (that also rapped), but fortunately I don't remember the name/ The songs in that one were horrid, which made their Ear Worm condition even worse.

[up] That's a good question: Whatever did happen to Robot Jones? I kind of liked that show. Well, back when he had a robot voice anyway. Apparently, the reason they changed to a kid's voice in the second season (as well as dubbing over all Season 1 episodes) was because Apple and Cartoon Network got into a copyright dispute, Apple claiming that Cartoon Network was using their text-to-speech software without permission.

Lopiny: Oh, on the topic of Latin American cartoons, Mauser y Pirulo, a badly done Venezuelan Beavis And Butthead knockoff.

Did you ever watch the Condorito cartoon?

[up] There was a cartoon? I never knew that.

EDIT: On further review it's on Youtube, and it's older than I am ('84), no wonder I never heard of it.

Also, never heard about Mauser y Pirulo.
