These chapters and the next few ones are my favorite in the manga, and it's good to see the anime adapting them so well. grin

Now that it’s animated, man they really could have just had it been Ymir’s love for her kids and regrets about leaving them to their dad as the reason she still obeyed the Royal Line for 2000 years.

Instead we needed the True WUV of Mikasax Eren and Ymirx Fritz

[up]Im an anime-only but isn't it heavily implied in the episode that Ymir's life as a slave to the king made her subservient to his command even after her (and eventually his) death? Or is this a future manga thing?

[up]Nah. Thats my bad. I don't particularly care for spoilers and I was just curious about your post.

Plus, the anime-only forum is dead. The last post was on april 2021. This forum is probably the only place I could discuss aot with.

Yeah if the anime only thread hasn’t had anything posted in awhile, as long as new anime content is coming out for the specific show then it’s okay to bring it back to life.

Here's a pretty interesting analysis on chapter 130 and how it sets up the ending and Eren's motivations, making the argument that Eren isn't a slave to fate at all but instead following through with his own principles to the end. Sans 139. Interesting stuff.

So I am a bit new here and I used to really this manga once.

I dropped off during the ending arc, right around the last chapter as I just couldn't really grasp just how badly it felt like the ending arcs for this series was going. Honestly? I liked it up until the War on Paradis arc I think. The implication that Paradis had allies that were built off of countries that Marley subjugated seemed interesting, a World War 1 plot between Paradis and their allies and Marley and theirs. Oh and Titans are involved. Seemed like it'd be cool.

Then everything to do with the Yaeger brothers happen. Once the plot of the last arcs started laser focusing around Eren and Zeke I just...felt my interest dying. My problem with was not only were their plans horrid but it felt like the plot was just bending over backwards to justify Eren eventually committing planetary genocide. I just felt it was really disappointing. Isayama built up this possibility that Paradis had sympathizers or allies that'd help them in this war and potentially seek a better future with them and then just completely erased it with all the Yaeger brother stuff.

The ending chapters didn't help. Not only was Eren validated by his friends it felt in the end but Ymir's character was also botched really suddenly by having Eren insist that she loved the King which does not at all make sense at all within the own context of her backstory. Ymir literally let herself die after seeing the King treat her horribly despite saving him from a assassination attempt. That was already after being used as a tool and raped. Her thing also being regulated to shipping Eren and Mikasa was just....wha?

The bonus chapter also made me feel like the ENTIRE series was a waste of time. Any efforts Eren or the Alliance or whatever made were completely pointless as Eldians were destroyed in the future anyways and some random child is about to accidentally start another reign of Titans again. I genuinely have no clue what was the whole point of that whole bonus chapter. It turned an already pretty pyrrhic ending that was problematic enough into an really bad one.

Sorry I just had to get that off my back. I grew up with this franchise so it really frustrates me to see how it ended. Doesn't help that I am getting bombarded with stuff on the second part of the final anime season were I am getting yet another round of Eren stans everywhere.

The random child is probably Mikasas descendant.

And I expecting that honestly because Norse myth IS cyclical, it’s the one thing I knew for sure would happen. The fact Worm-kin disappearing didn’t make any sense either yet there were people who acted like it did, so we get the exact same giant tree growing where Erens head was and where it finds it’s latest host, and better yet the implication becomes Ymir wasn’t the first.

It will be interesting to see the reaction of the non-readers now as the anime starts adapting the parts where the plot starts falling apart.

Speaking of which, I heard that for the anime the ending was going to be changed again. Anyone know if that's credible or just hearsay?

I remember that the original ending for this series would have been a kill em all and was only changed after it became popular.

So this series was always going to end really sadly.

On the bright side, there's no guarantee that whatever the child finds in the tree, if anything will bring the Titans back. Who knows how that hallucigenia may have changed due to how much time has passed? For all we know, it may no longer be able to make Titans but since life finds a way, it developed the ability to create something entirely different. Like it could give humans superpowers a la My Hero Academia or make dragons.

Heck the boy has a dog with him, so there's always the chance it could pull a Nina Tucker.

You know, as far as I can tell no one reading the manga liked the whole "Eren planned things all along" part, but I watch anime reactions and have already seen a couple of people theorize it's probably something of that nature.

Maybe we were all just too dense?

[up]I think its just a difference between adaptations as well as the difference between the anime audience and the manga audience.

Nah, I think the Lelouch theory was pretty common in the manga days too, we just assumed (and hoped) it would be something different and more nuanced.

Also the degree of "planned all along" varies. Lots of people were absolutely on board with Eren having manipulated everyone from the timeskip on. Him being the one to get his mom eaten? Not so much.

So I've been speculating this with some friends on Discord. Based on the revealed episode titles, there are going to be maybe 8 or so chapters left to adapt after this cour ends. Not enough to do an entire third cour...but more than enough to make a Big Damn Movie as the grand finale.

I say this because of how much bank Mugen Train and JJK 0 grossed at the Japanese box office and the precedent has been set to just put the canon manga material into theatrical movies now.
