Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan (Manga Discussion)

I said a while back that Gabi is unlikely to turn on the side of Eldia, but I also mentioned that her faith will be challenged. I think we've come upon this very moment, though now I'm hesitant to say she won't turn. If not to the side of Eldia, then for her own side.

In short order, she saw a Marleyan try to kill her for killing an Eldian - something that to her sounds impossible - an Eldian whose daughter she personally killed forgive her and then her friend turn a knife on her once truth was revealed. I can't tell what's going to happen to her, but given that Falco had a dose of spinal wine, she'll get embroiled in the events before we can say "Aberrant".

Zeke's planning a complete wipeout of the Eldian high command, I see, but I don't suppose he can just scream at his leisure; Levi was most likely informed how this stuff works and given who he is, he's likely able to just turn Zeke to ribbons the moment he raises his voice. Thus, Jaeger Faction is headed for Zeke and Levi to distract the latter to allow the former his few seconds of unbridled screaming.

I must say, I do enjoy Mikasa being forced to think for herself and become her own person. I did not mind her attachment to Eren much, but the fact that she just cannot bring herself to defend her brother/crush/sworn compatriot's actions anymore is just the grand tragedy of it all.

I'm torn on whether she would ever "switch sides", as it were. I have a feeling we may reach a point in the story where various factions will have to compromise and deal with each other. The Rumbling presents a threat to everyone, because they don't know whether or not Eren could actually manage to control and wield it. (I have a feeling that he won't be able to master it.)

The recurrent question we've been faced with is the Fate of the Eldians. In that the ones living outside the Walls have only been permitted to live because of their value as military resources. With the modern era making Titans obsolete, both sides are facing the question of their survival. The Warriors are in a position to take things by the reigns a little, since Magath and the Tyburs essentially wiped out Marley's high command. As near as we can tell, right now Magath is in charge and he is listening to the advice/strategies of Reiner and Pieck.

I feel like Gabi will remain loyal to her desire to "redeem/save" the Eldian people. But perhaps expanding it to those on Paradis as well, particularly since much of the current problems can be placed back on Zeke. (And rightfully so, since the majority of what has happened was arranged and planned by him.)

Until the kids bite it, I'm sticking with my theory of Falco and Gabi representing the future of the Eldians. What happens to them, kind of sets a tone for the future of their people and whether they can escape this cycle or not.

Okay been catching up & all I can say is I fucking love what Eren’s become.

He’s become the Motherfucking Scourage of God.

I admit, he's gone in a direction none of us would have expected.

I mean, I mocked him relentlessly for being useless, but now he's sure doing shit.

The crazy thing is, we still don't know if he's really a Rogue Protagonist or not.

Whether he is or not, his friends have lost complete faith in him, and no matter how this ends, they likely won't be able to get that back.

The last chapter: Eren gets his vengeance, restores peace, and is celebrated as a hero. Then it turns out he suffered a fatal head injury after falling off the 3DMG apparatus from training camp and the rest of the series was his Dying Dream.

Was about to say the same thing, yeah.

I think things are really going to come down to whatever the Yeager brothers are planning, and whether the world gets destroyed.

Either way, unless Isayama suddenly decides to let us in on Eren's plans early.....he's playing the Antagonist of the story for a while. Probably with the rest of the cast scrambling to deal with the Yeager Faction, and whatever Zeke is up to. With how Isayama loves to keep mysteries going as long as possible, we probably won't understand Eren for a while.

Isayama is to reveal the final panel of the manga on his documentary on November 18th.

If that grinning thing on the picture is any indication, we'll have Shifter fusion. That, or Zeke won and grabbed Warhammer for himself.

Why in the world would Isayama do that?

There's a possibility that it's going to be the first draft of the ending, that is the "everything goes to pot" that Isayama planned for before the series became popular.

Or that it might be a mistranslation.

Or it doesn't really spoil anything...like a shot of a beautiful ocean or a big titan or something

A single panel could very well tell you nothing without the context.

Yeah, it strikes me as weird either way. Either it gives away too much information, or it's basically meaningless on its own.

It's a recreation of the first panel of the first chapter.

Speaking of which, I always find it surprising that the manga started in 2009. The anime defined 2010s anime culture, so its source material being made earlier is kind of weird.

That panel in itself is kind of unnerving. Looks like an smiling Warhammer Titan.

You know I love how unnerving the Warhammer Titan design can be. I genuinely wonder just how nasty the past was in the Attack on Titan world.

We have the final panel. At least a draft version of it. Here it is.◊ Ending spoilers from this point forward. I'm told that the text translates to "You are free. Thoughts? The obvious option is the paths are destroyed and Titanization is no longer possible. However, I suspect it's not quite as straightforward as it appears. Without context it's a bit hard to judge.

If this leads into Shingeki no Kyojin:re I'm going to be ridiculously pissed.

I want to say that it's Historia holding the baby, but the figure looks too broad-shouldered. I doubt it's Eren, since he seems poised to perish in the final arc - unless it really is him and the Curse of Ymir just straight-up disappeared.

...the baby kinda looks like Zeke when he was a child, which has me more than a little worried though...

The author is obviously trolling us just to fuel the speculation.

Five months from now Isayama gives another interview about how his vision of the ending has changed.

Heh that documentary sounds like a hoot to watch.
