[up]Because there's 20 of them, that's why. They're still one big happy family and are still one large team, but when going out on field missions, these are the squads they'll tend to be divied up into. Again, handling 20 main characters all at once would have been a hell of a undertaking. This way, I can still have all of them, but they'll be a lot easier to manage. It's more a matter of practicality than anything else.

Anyhoo, I'm still working on the 'Pilot' so-to-speak, but there's something I've been meaning to ask. When I put it up on Fanfiction.net or wherever, do you I think I should ask if anyone there's willing to join in, or should I just keep it to TV tropes? On the one hand, just going off of what I've seen so far, I don't know if I'm going to get much help here, (though kudos to those who are helping,) but on the other hand, I still want to have some level of quality control. I don't want to just invite any Tom Dick or Harry off the street, and that's what I may be letting myself in for if I invite people on FF.net. (Because God knows Sturgeon's Law exists for a reason.) Thoughts?

So, did you wrote anything yet? Not even in this project, but over all any fanfic writing experience?

I'm going to repost my fic because having serious feedback for any work I've done would be fantastic.

It's set right after Sonic Generations and is basically about Sonic and Blaze hanging out before she has to return her own dimension. It can be read as a bit of a ship fic or just a friendship fic; whichever you want. It also contains a few scenes that still make me laugh, even after all this time.

On Fanfiction.net.

On Archive of Our Own.

Just a quick update. Mina Mongoose has been added to the Secret Freedom Fighters, making for 21 Freedom Fighters in all. To be fair, she was going to be in the project anyway, but this way, she's a bit more prominent. I also want to take her in a different direction in in the main Archie canon. There, she was someone who tried to be a Freedom Fighter only to realize she didn't have what it took and instead turned to her real passion, singing. Here, it's the opposite. In this verse, she'll already be starting out as a fairly accomplished singer, but when Robotnik comes crashing in, she'll have to learn that sometimes, you've got no choice but to fight. She'll still sing when she can, even forming a band with Sonia and Manic, but like Sonic, she'll gradually accept that there are some things that are more important than just doing whatever the heck you want, and puts her speed to good use. Which, whenever they're together in Knothole and not going out on missions, leads to them forming a strong bond...

Also, still working on the Pilot. It's coming along pretty nicely I think.

Still working on the Pilot. In the meantime, I've been thinking, (a dangerous pastime/I know) and I figure I should have some sort of general plan before really going into this. To that end, here's a general timeline of events. It's mostly based off of the games, but there will be some arcs based off of some of the alt-media stuff along with a couple of original storylines thrown in there, and there still might be any number of stories told in between. Without further adue...

SONIC COMPOSITE TIMELINE: PART 1

-Eggman takes over the Acorn Kingdom and the surrounding zones, namely the various zones in S1 and S2, thus turning this into a loose adaption of the first two games. Sonic and the Freedom Fighters go on various adventures and missions in these zones before finally driving Eggman off. But this is really just the beginning. (And Chuck gets robotized at some point.)

-During the latter days of Eggman's reign, he was busy doing work on a backup plan in case he somehow lost control of the region, and to that end found out about the Little Planet, a mysterious small planet that shows up out of the blue once a month that also has strange time-warping capabilities. It also is home to the seven Time Stones, which when collected can grant power over all of time and space. With that in mind, he has his backup plan — two of them in fact — and as Sonic delivers the final blow to his killer robot aboard the Death Egg, Eggman presses the emergency escape button and takes off in a makeshift hovercraft, radioing his his remaining forces and ordering them to rendezvous at the Little Planet. Sonic and the FF follow his trail, and Sonic CD happens. At the end of it, Eggman nearly has his hands on the timestones before the FF intervene and cause a time-wimey mishap that blinks the stones out of existence. Cue Sonic trashing Eggman and Eggman seemingly perishing in a firey explosion. Eggman's finally gone, the day is saved, Sonic can resume his wanderings across Mobius, and all's well that ends well. Or Is It?

-Just as Sonic starts speeding away from the Acorn Kingdom, the Little Planet suddenly rematerializes above it and a squad of badniks and Swatbots suddenly beam in from out of nowhere, wrecking havok to the kingdom once more, Without Eggman to personally lead the troops, the FF have no problem giving them a good trashing, and when Sonic returns in short order, they make short work of them. Just then, a hologram of Eggman appears and pulls a Just Between You and Me. Turns out that they Never Found the Body and that Eggman was alive and well. No longer having Sonic and co on his back, and with time passing by more quickly on the Little Planet than it does on Mobius, he was able to harness the time-warping powers of the planet and conquer it, creating a mighty empire that could constantly be a threat to Mobius. The only thing stopping Eggman from unleashing an unholy hell upon Mobius is that, well, he's on another planet. He either needs to send fleets down to Mobius or teleport them down, and he can't send everyone at once even with the time differential, so that gives Sonic and everyone else a fighting chance. But it also means that as long Eggman's out there, Sonic needs to stick with the Freedom Fighters, because he doesn't really have any other choice.

-At some point, Eggman learns of the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald that are located upon the Floating Island, and aims to conquer it so that he can gain the Emerald's power for himself. Needless to say, Sonic 3 and Knuckles happens.

-Eggman keeps on attempting to conquer Mobius while the FF continues to stop him, along with dealing with other threats such as Team Hooligan, Scourge, Ixis Nagus, the Battle Kuku army, and the Destructix. Some of the spin-off games possibly happen in this time such as 3D Blast, Fighters, or Racing, but there's no guarantee. Also, Knuckles' Chaotix happens which introduces the Chaotix, but I'm still not sure how that's exactly going to go down here.

-At some point, Eggman decides on a change of pace and attacks the Federation, the part of the world where the humans live, finally giving Sonic and the FF a reason to explore that part of the world. There, they meet with both the President and GUN, ending up on good terms with the former and somewhat ambiguous terms with the latter. Soon after this, Sonic Adventure happens, with some changes to both accommodate the FF as well as to just allow for better storytelling.

That's enough for now. I'll write the rest of it up later. Still though, I'm liking this the more and more I work on it. I really think this is gonna be something special. (Assuming I can finish it. I'm still hoping I can get some help with this, but I'll do it myself if I have to.)

[up]Chris is going to be Perfect Chaos' first victim. Seriously, the first thing we're going to see after Perfect Chaos awakens is Chris being swept away by a tidal wave and hurled onto a sharp rusty beam of metal. We'll spend about a page or so just going over the gruesome and gory details of his death, and then we'll never so much as mention him again.

Nah, I'm cruel, but I'm not that cruel.tongue To be honest, I've never seen Sonic X, just because so much of it is supposed to be so bad. The irony is that it's supposed to be one of the most faithful adaptions of the source material, and yet it's still apparently one of the worst. It might be worth checking out just for that alone. Mind you, I'm still going to watch it at some point, especially if I can find something I can use for this project, but it's not something I'm looking forward too.

That said, there is something I want to use from it; the Metarex. One thing I want to do is a rewrite and expansion of Shadow The Hedgehog. The big difference is that, rather than just the Black Arms invading, (who will actually be built up to this time,) you're also going to have the Draconians from Sonic The Comic and the Metarex from Sonic X all invading Mobius at the same time, (which make Sticks in particular ecstatic,) but what gives Mobius a fighting chance is that they're spending more time fighting each other than actually trying to conquer Mobius. That's just a battleground for them. And since they're focused more on each other than Mobius, this gives everyone the chance to strike back while they're all busy waving their dicks. And of course, Eggman's not going to let them attack his planet without his say so. It's a four way struggle between the Black Arms, the Draconians, the Metarex, and Eggman, and with Sonic, Shadow, and everyone else caught in the middle, and it's an arc I'm really looking forward too.

I remember reading a fic in the Adventure era (written around then too) where Sonic and Shadow died in the final battle and reincarnated as Chao. None of the other characters were aware of this, so it was a mix of funny, heartwarming, and sad.

Also, that composite fic looks really awesome and detailed! One of my favorite things about the Sonic universe is that between the games, shows, and comics there's a lot of material to pull from for worldbuilding. (One of my favorite things about Sonic Underground was how the aristocracy played into things as the source of Robotnik's money.)

The Protomen enhanced my life.

Still working on the Pilot, but in the meantime, here's the second part of the Composite Timeline. This one's going to take a few more liberties, if only because we're about to enter into the era where the games actually tried to tell truly good stories only to fall flat onto the scalding pavement. Seeing as this series is going to live and die on its' story, there need to be some changes. (Also added Knuckles Chaotix to the first part of the timeline, which is kind of important seeing how it introduces the Chaotix and all.) Also, as with the first part, other stories and arcs might happen between the ones listed, (mainly involving the other villains aside from Eggman,) but these are the primary events of the timeline.

-As Eggman beings to wonder why he keeps losing despite having an entire Empire at his command, he harkens back to why he started all of this in the first place; to create a world where scientists were in charge and where they got the respect they deserved in honor of his grandfather Gerald Robotnik who, despite being considerably more moralistic and altruistic than Eggman would have liked, was nonetheless a truly great scientist who was ruined by the seedier part of GUN, who wanted to take the professor's research for themselves. He begins reading through his Grandfather's diary and notes again to try and set himself back on track, but in the process discovers that not all of the professor's creations were destroyed. Cue Eggman freeing Shadow and SA 2 happening. As said, there will be some alterations, but there isn't any one big one. It's mostly going to be little things together with more natural storytelling that will hopefully lead to a more cohesive and substantial narrative. Not to say that SA 2's story was horrible, but it definitely needed some finetuning, and that's what it's gonna get here.

-After Shadow's noble sacrifice, we take a break from hedgehog angst in favor of a Sonic Battle adaptation, this time without Shadow being involved due to obvious reasons. It happens more or less as it did in the games, but again with some alterations, mainly due in part to everyone not having to fight each other every five seconds. Emerly seemingly goes bye-bye, and all's well that ends well. Or does it?

-After this, Sonic Heroes happens, only with the three-person team structure getting nixed in favor of just having the three groups of Freedom Fighters, Team Chaotix, and the premier of Team Dark. The biggest two changes happening here are that I'm also throwing in a bit of Sonic Advance 3, mainly with having Gemerel show up as Metal Sonic's second in command. Speaking of which, Metal Sonic, now redubbed Metal Overlord, also stays Metal Overlord at the end of the game, only without any of his fancy extra powers. He does keep the name and the look, and rather than just going back to serving Eggman, he runs like hell and becomes a recurring villian. We also see the first appearance of Breezie, Corrupt Corporate Executive extraordinaire, as Metal Overlord tries to cut a deal with her only to be rebuffed. She tends to mostly stay in the background and let things play out, only maneuvering around situations to make the best of them, but she is willing to take a more personal approach if necessary with her personal trio of bodyguards: Lightmare, Biohazard, and Mr.Fry. At the end of Sonic Heroes, Gemerl (who is without a doubt a refurbished Emerl here,) decides to go with Knuckles back to Angel Island, as while he's mostly back to normal, he's still lost much of his memory from prior to Sonic Battle, and has an instinctual feeling telling him that if he goes back there, he can discover much of his past. And boy, would he be proven right...

-Rather than moving straight on to Shadow The Hedghog, we instead take a detour for a very loose adaptation of Sonic Chronicles. Honestly, it's more just inspired by it really. One important to note is that by this point, a researcher by the name of Pika has taken up residence on Angel Island along with Knuckles and Gemerl, as she feels that island is a goldmine for archeological research. Which it is. Anyhoo, Knuckles and co. are just minding their own business when, much to Knuckles' disbelief, an entire small platoon of Echidnas appears from out of nowhere and, for all intents and purposes, tries to kill him. Most of the Echidnas teleport back to wherever they came from, but they do manage to capture the ringleader; Julie-Su, also known as Shade. They learn of the Nocturnus Clan and their copius backstory, and realizing that this might be too much for just the two of them to handle, they call in Sonic and the FF. Cue a long and involved struggle between the FF and Nocturnus clan, though with the FF finally back on top and the Nocturnus clan being sealed in the Twilight Cage forevermore. Well, most of them. Julie-Su for one's pulled a Heel–Face Turn by this point, but aside from her, Second in Command Lein-Da has managed to avoid get sealed back in along with a small army of Nocturnus Clan members, who begin making plans to take Mobius however they can. On top of that, the good Doctor Zachary Finitevius has also managed to elude capture, and he's got plans of his own...

-A broad re-imagining of Shadow The Hedgehog occurs. Important thing to note; unlike in the games, Shadow never lost his memory here. Instead, he forms Team Dark with Omega and Rouge in the Sonic Heroes plot because Rouge is his friend and, after she saves him being held captive by Eggman, he agrees to help her out. However, as of Shadow The Hedgehog, he still isn't sure just what path his life should take, and there are still lingering mysteries to his past that he had always wondered about. Things that didn't quite make sense. Including just the briefest of gaps in his memory right after he awakened in the SA 2 backstory. But that will have to wait. Three alien races, the Black Arms, the Draconians, and the Metarex all suddenly show up on Earth at the same time, and while they all have been built up to in some way, this is the first time they all show up in person. Basically, they've decided the cosmos isn't big enough for the three of them, and decide to use Earth as a battleground in part due to sensing the Chaos and Master Emeralds there, as well as the Black Arms remembering that they have some unfinished business on Earth, mainly with Gerald Robotnik's creation. Shadow may not have full amnesia, but neither he was really there for just what happened before he woke up, which still gives the Arms an arm in the door when it comes to manipulating Shadow, and thus still set up a quest for identity. In the meantime, the world descends into a five-way battle between the Black Arms, the Draconians, the Metarex, the Eggman Empire, and everyone else. They all manage to fend the aliens off in the end, but not without the Earth taking some major damage, including the Acorn Kingdom...

That's it for now. Next up is more game adaptions as well a couple of arcs inspired by the comics, but that's a story for another day.

Finally, I get to post fanfiction after a long time of working on my Sonic Adventure adaption!

It's... not the Sonic Adventure adaption, I need someone who can actually proofread the whole thing...

But!

This is just as good, if not better! Behold! http://fav.me/dbcup32

Yes it is about OCs, and if you have an OC you'd be willing to let me borrow for this story, lemme know and we can talk about integrating them into it!

I have two that I never used anywhere, don't plan on ever using, never even named (well, one had a name but I'm not gonna give it because even the me of all those years ago was unsure of it), and I don't remember their backstories.

That being said, I remember their concepts and, if that's good enough for you, you are welcome to them.

[up][up]I don't know about OC's, but if you'd like me to proofread it for you, I'd be more than happy to. It might not be until this weekend though until I can get around to it, seeing as I've been working on my own little project lately. I'll just have more time to do whatever come Saturday, so if that's fine with you, then I'd be perfectly willing to proofread it. Though if we're lucky, I'll be able to get it proofread even sooner. But I'll still do it either way.smile

Anyhoo, I've finally gotten to the big climatic battle in my Pilot, but I've hit a bit of a snag. The idea was to show all 21 Freedom Fighters thrashing Eggman's forces, a way to showcase all of the Freedom Fighters while really showing just what I'm trying to do here, but the more I tried to work that scene into the story, the less inclined I am to keep writing. I split the FF into the three groups for a reason, namely that they'd be too much for me handle all at once outside of just hanging out at Knothole and the like, and as I'm learning the hard way, writing even a single self-contained story with all of them marching into battle doesn't really change that. The practical part of me wants to just stick with a smaller group of Freedom Fighters, but the other part of me still wants to try and bring in everyone, so I'm not really sure what to do. Mind you, if this were an actual story from the main fanfic series, I'd be using a small group without question rather then sending everyone in. It's a struggle between what's doable and what I feel should probably be done, but I'm not exactly sure what to do.

Any thoughts?

Pick the maximum number of fighters you think you can handle describing in detail. Pick that number of fighters at more or less random. Completely at random, if you so wish. For everyone else, describe what they're doing in one sentence or a part of one sentence every now and then and only focus on those characters. When it comes to really large fights, you're really only writing for two or three fighters. While you're describing their actions, you describe everyone else as basically scenery. The exact details of how you'd do this depends on how a number of factors.

The trick to writing a lot of characters is picking only a small number to focus on and just shoving everyone else into varying levels of the background. When you're planning an arc for your stories, what you'll want to do is pick one Main Character (two if absolutely necessary but try not to do this often) for that arc, two-to-four Side Characters who are really important but not as important, and then work through whomever's left and shove them into background roles of varying levels of importance. This keeps everything nice and neat for everyone. You can completely change everyone out for the next arc and you can even make one or two substitutions mid-arc (just try not to do something like change the Main Character to a Background Character mid-arc since that'd be eh).

When it comes to large casts, you don't want to try and let every character share the spotlight equally at all times. It'll be frustratingly hard to write and will read like ass.

This contains a sequence similar to what I'm talking about. It's far more detailed and concentrated than I suggest yours be since this one has far fewer characters to deal with but it gets the same point across.

[up]Thanks. I wanted to show everyone in more or less equal detail, give them all a decent amount of attention, but that just wasn't really going to work. At least this way, I can still let the readers know just who I'm including while still having the scene be manageable. And yeah, most arcs are only going to have groups of up to 7 anyway, hence why I split the Freedom Fighters into multiple teams. Group shot scenes where all of them are fighting together are going to be few and far between, but this is an occasion where I think it's kind of necessary. But I'm still going to have to really just focus on a few characters here. Again, thanks, really.smile

Quick update. So Zelenal got me thinking, mainly when it comes to just how I'm going to use my overly large cast, and I realized that while I still don't want to use everyone at once, I don't want to be tied down by having to stick to just three preset squads either. What I'm going to do instead is go with a Justice League or Legion Of Superheroes approach; use whatever characters I want to for a given story. The others can still be implied to be going out on other missions and doing other stuff, but this just makes things a hell of a lot more flexible. And for posterity's sake, here's the full list of Freedom Fighters again, only no longer split up.

THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS

-Sonic

-Tails

-Amy

-Sally Acorn

-Rotor

-Bunny Rabbot

-Antoine

-Nicole

-Cream&Cheese

-Big&Froggy

-Shard

-Silver (He joins up after choosing to stay in the past for a while after a healthy dose of Character Development.)

-Blaze (After getting stuck in our dimension for a time, she joins the Freedom Fighters with nowhere else to go, though she does eventually return to her dimension.)

-Porker Lewis

-Johnny Litefoot

-Techno

-Shortfuse

-Sticks

-Sonia

-Manic

-Mina Mongoose

-Gemerl

-Ebony

I'm also thinking of adding Gemerl to the Freedom Fighters, but I'm not really sure if I need two robots on the same team, and I'm not really sure what to do with him that I can't do with Shard. I might just keep him palling around with Knuckles. We'll see.

@Zelenal: Yeah, I'd be happy to hear these character concepts (and heck, the fact they don't sound fleshed out at all means I can more easily mold them into my fanfic xp).

@kkhohoho: Yeah, I'd love a proofreader who will actually proofread it [lol]. I'll PM the details to you. I would've suggested powering through with the massive cast anyways, BUT Zelenal's suggestion is far better, so yeah.

EDIT: I don't know Shard very well, but Gemerl could be simultaneously learning how to live like its previous model/lifetime Emerl before, while simultaniously having to deal with a ruined reputation from that time it was working with Eggman... Assuming Gemerl worked with Eggman at first ^^;

[up][up] I'm glad because these are super bare bones.

The first was a hedgehog with lightning powers which I suppose could be expanded to just electricity powers (kid me who made him eventually became unsure about him being a hedgehog but wasn't sure what to change him to). I honestly cannot, for the life of me, remember where he was going to be from. All I remember is that he was going to be a minor love triangle with Blaze and Sonic and he'd eventually "lose", for want of a better term.

The second was a cat with shadow powers (not really the same as, say, Shikamaru's from Naruto but you can make them work however you want. Unless you want me to just make up some powers on the spot which I can). I don't think I ever actually got pas the concept phase with this guy so he's just completely blank outside of that.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!
