I want to roleplay with a group. However, given my status as a relatively young and short-statured female gamer living in a big city, I do not feel comfortable using things like Meet Up.com, which is what one of my (male and larger) friends keeps suggesting. Is there a safe way to find a good gaming group in the city?

Find a good Gaming/Hobby shop, and ask the manager if they do "demo tournaments," or "open RP nights." It's a good way to to meet fellow R Pers. Also, if you can find some non-skeezy ones, you could ask them if they do RP Gs outside of the game shop. If they do, then ask to get into their group, if they don't, perhaps try to create a new group.

The rpg.net forums also might be a good place, if you're in a big city. Their membership is huge, so your odds of finding more than one group is good.

[up][up] Also, depending on your preferred system, ask them if they run D&D Encounters or Pathfinder Society.
