For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube
which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B
to Z
, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.
For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE
) to repeat in the chat.
We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Even though we rewatched this just a few months ago, it's just too notorious in our circle to pass up during our anniversary season: Maradonia and the Shadow Empire, adapted from the "written work" of Gloria Tesch and financed by her family/parents with way, way too much disposable income that may as well have been dumped in a pit of fire.

And we're off with some classic Retsupurae, plus David Lynch's Daily Weather Report.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit Gloria Tesch in Maradonia and the Seven Bridges.

I chose a classic episode of The Day Today totally at random to start us off.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we recognize Weng Weng Wednesday this anniversary season and celebrate one of cult cinema's biggest oddities with the bizarre "filipino western" flick D'Wild Wild Weng!

Tonight, let's meet The Last Vampire on Earth. Maybe he's not really the last vampire on Earth though. How would he know? There might be others.
In the pre-show, we get a blast from the past with Bad Influence!
Come on in! https://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

Twilight except Bella's the creep.
Well, that was one thing I said during the movie.
One scene I found corny is when the vampire is revealed to be over 2000 years old, the next question he's asked is, "Did you see Jesus?" And the answer is yes. So, how many countries has he lived in, to have experienced all the historical events he said he's experienced?
Oh, HO-OH-HOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo...
We're kicking off a very special Kung Fu Friday before the close of our anniversary season with some classic Godfrey Ho highlights.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit the dyed-in-the-wool stone cold classic Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter.

Tonight, our Eight Year Anniversary Retrospective concludes with the marking of not one but TWO important occasions: Starcrash Saturday, celebrating our aesthetic ideal of the perfect "bad" movie, and OP Day, marking the original date of the very creation of this very thread on the TV Tropes fora and solidifying our place in the troping community ever since.
Naturally, tonight's feature presentation will be none other than the great Luigi Cozzi's Italian Star Wars imitation Starcrash, starring Caroline Munro, Marjoe Gortner, Joe Spinell, and some guy named David Hasselhoff.
We look conclude our Celebratory Eighth Anniversary Season with a bang tonight.
First, we start off with a pair of classic videos from Retsupurae.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we settle down with the so-bad-it's-good classic Starcrash.

Back to new material tonight. This title is one I'm not deeply familiar with. Nevertheless, all the countless times times I've seen this movie sitting on a shelf in the "Independent" section at my local Blockbuster (way back when) or spotted the poster in the shots of the hysterical screaming lady in Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (as late as this past Friday) have burned this image
◊ into my retinas, and if YouTube is gonna designate this a free-to-watch movie, then we may as well finally take the opportunity to get around to it.
The gist of this one is a campy romp about a naive teenager who is sent to a rehabilitation camp after her straitlaced (emphasis on "straight") parents and peers suspect her of being a lesbian. Similar to Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, expect the moral of the story to be something along the lines of "There's nothing deviant about love."
Submitted for your approval, I give to you But I'm a Cheerleader, starring Natasha Leonne, Michelle Williams, Clea DuVall, Bud Cort, Cathy Moriarty... and RuPaul.

Alright, we're off and running with more of the usual content we've been holding back on during our anniversary festivities.

Tonight, we check out more futuristic spacefaring adventure that turns to horror and suspense, after an Artificial Intelligence grows jealous because the ship's captain is in love with Catherine Mary Stewart (Who could blame him?).
Surprised to discover that this is also based on a novella by George R.R. Martin (not that I've valued him much as a writer, but certainly interesting to find out) and also features one James Avery in the cast.
I give you Nightflyers.
Starting us off with more from cRiT1KaL, a pair of Vice videos about recreational drugs, and David Lynch's Daily Weather Report.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we jump into the cinematic adaptation of George R.R. Martin's Nightflyers.

Tonight, we get around to the maligned 1999 movie adaptation/revamp of the late-60's, early 70's television series The Mod Squad. For those unfamiliar with the original show, it was basically your standard police/detective show... but tailored more towards a younger audience, the central premise being that a trio of juvenile delinquents are offered a deal to avoid jail, so long as they agree to work for the police and "infiltrate" the counterculture on a weekly basis and expose the evil hippies who are preying on the youth of the day.
The movie adaptation updated for the turn-of-the-millennium sees Claire Danes, Omar Epps, and Giovanni Ribisi take over the roles of the original series' leads—Peggy Lipton, Clarence Williams III, and Michael Cole—who, after agreeing to work with the police to avoid jail, are tasked with uncovering an intricate drug ring, only to get caught in a set-up, and with cops back on their trail, they must not only solve the case but also clear their names.
Also featuring Dennis Farina and Josh Brolin.

I never said anything about infiltrating "their own group." The characters never even belonged to some sort of organized, cohesive "group" to begin with. In the original show, the three lead characters had nothing to do with one another before their recruitment and got into legal trouble for completely separate matters(one came from wealth and privilege in Beverly Hills and was arrested and put on probation for stealing a car, one was Black and poor and was arrested during the Watts riots, and one fled her prostitute mother's home in San Francisco and was arrested for vagrancy).

Getting us started with some horror shorts, cRiT1KaL, and David Lynch's Daily Weather Report.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we go toe-to-toe with 1999's millennial take on The Mod Squad.

It doesn't make any difference, because this changes nothing even without any of your added input, but that's not how shit gets to work. If more than half of you aren't involved or paying any attention when the credits roll and the poll opens, then you clearly weren't paying enough attention during the rest of a movie for me to care about your precious "vote."
Anyway, after already checking out Frankie Muniz as Agent Cody Banks several weeks back, here's a sequel that I didn't know existed, which you can also completely ignore while inexplicably pretending to be participating in a group chat for all I care: Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London.

Got cRiT1KaL, Daxflame, and David Lynch all lined up.

Anyway, we'll be starting off with some old content from Lowtax and Shmorky... before their reputations were shot to shit.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we'll be revisiting Fred Durst's dubious "masterpiece" The Fanatic!
