For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube
which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B
to Z
, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.
For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE
) to repeat in the chat.
We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Oh, HO-OH-HOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo...
This Kung Fu Friday, after the good reception Violent Cop got last week, we'll be following it up with Takeshi Kitano's even more impressive yakuza flick Sonatine.
Enjoy this novel American trailer from about seven years after its initial release, which hails Kitano as "one man with the talents of Jim Carrey, Howard Stern, and Martin Scorcese."
Oh, HO-OH-HOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooo...
Kung Fu Friday commences with another episode of Ghost Stories.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we treat ourselves to Takeshi Kitano's Sonatine.

Today marks a significant milestone for our little group: EIGHT WHOLE YEARS!
That's 2,922 days and 2,175 unique movies showcased. To all of your who are reading this, I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without any of you, the investment of your personal time, and your shared belief in our "culture" and "cause," this day could not be made possible.
Now it's time to celebrate and kick off our annual two-week anniversary season with a revisit to the film where it all began: Phil Tucker's Robot Monster!
Edited by SeanMurrayI on Aug 8th 2020 at 2:18:22 PM
Alright, we're kicking off our 8th Anniversary in style with a few classic videos from cRiT1KaL that are nearly as old as our Coven, plus David Lynch's Daily Weather Report.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit our humble beginnings with our very first movie... Robot Monster!

Our anniversary season continues tonight with a look back on Ben & Arthur, the curious no-budget vanity piece written by, directed by, produced by, edited by, and starring Sam Mraovich, telling the "dramatic" story of a recently married gay couple who are threatened by one of the pair's brother, a religious fanatic who plots to murder them after being ostracized by his church.
If the premise feels shallow, even by the low standards of socially/politically-motivated works, casting obvious friends and acquaintances from the filmmaker's local gay community in the roles of the "non-homosexual" religious zealots certainly makes for a much more surreal experience...
...Not to mention the unexpected ending of the film lifted directly from the most awkward parts of Brian De Palma's Scarface.
The anniversary continues with with some old material from Retsupurae that's about as old as our coven is now.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit "The Glen or Glenda of Our Generation " (a title I just made up on the fly that doesn't exactly make a whole lot of sense): Ben & Arthur.

Didn't you have them all already?
Anyway, yeah, the anniversary festivities continue with... The aforementioned Neil Breen, as we revisit 2018's Twisted Pair.
It's probably not the "best" Neil Breen movie (I'm not even sure what the best way to determine a favorite Breen flick would be, but right now, I'd decide on a coin flip between I Am Here... Now and Pass-Thru). It's certainly his most recent, and it's most definitely deserving of a revisit.
Tonight's entire Anniversary Season pre-show is dedicated to the genius of Neil Breen.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit the man's latest masterpiece: 2018's Twisted Pair!

"They say a cat has nine lives... YOU have only ONE!"
Of course, we'd make room in our anniversary season retrospective for the greatest ever monster movie about a killer mutant cat... that hides inside the body of another cat.
It's Greydon Clark's magnum opus Uninvited, starring the unlikely power trio of George Kennedy, Alex Cord, and Clu Gulager!
We'll start off with a pair of classic videos from Lowtax and Shmorky (long before everything turned to shit for both of them).
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit the perfect object that is Uninvited.

Apologies for my sheer lateness.
Tonight, we continue a cat movie trend with "Daddy" Derek Savage's latest recut of Cool Cat Saves the Kids and probably the only film we've watched that's so terrible that it pretty much rendered our ratings scale entirely pointless (Although it technically averaged a
, yet we're not saving it for Awful Friday)—Cool Cat: The Kids Superhero.

To start us off, and bring us back to the pre-show days of yesteryear, I picked out an old episode of Bad Influence totally at random.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit the 2nd revision of Derek Savage's magnum opus—Cool Cat Saves the Kids, retitled Cool Cat: The Kids Superhero.

Sadly, we won't be convening tonight. I'm delivering a separate presentation on our bold letter title Frailty, while Bonsai is otherwise preoccupied, as well.
We'll be back tomorrow on the day we recognize as Awful Friday. God help us all.
Here's David with the weather...

Tonight's our second major evening in our annual anniversary season: Awful Friday.
This yearly observance originates from our first hyped-up gathering for a Friday evening, encouraging a large turnout and promising stupid fun... However, the movie we ended up watching that night did not quite pan out as the enjoyable "so bad its good" spectacle we were aiming for, and those of us who endured the experience only found cringe-inducing displeasure. Ever since then, this Friday is set aside as a reminder that, whether one aims to be a "well-rounded" connoisseur of cheeseball media or simply strives to hunt for the worst movies of all time, there's always gonna be bouts of disappointment and lousy feelings at least some of the time, and in some ways, it's necessary to experience that every so often just to put everything into perspective.
Since it's been far, far too long since we last checked out a movie from the notorious David DeCoteau, this time around, we'll be revisiting his utterly garbage family film A Talking Cat?!?
Filmed over the course of a single weekend... and a twenty-minute phone call to Eric Roberts. Yes, Eric Roberts quite literally phoned in his lines and narration for the titular cat that talks.

Starting us off with a repeat viewing of Vincent Price's "Creepy Classics."
Then, at the top of the coming hour, we revisit Jessie Ventura and Sven-Ole Thorsen in Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe. Cue the soft jazz muzak!

Tonight, the anniversary continues with a revisit to one of the most unthinkable "Die Hard" on an X clones every made: The 1996 "Die Hard in a Skyscraper" action thrillride simply titled Skyscraper, starring Anna Nicole Smith, for everybody out there who always craved a touch of Cinemax spiciness with their typically muy macho entree of guns and explosions.
And, yes, the original Die Hard was already set inside a skyscraper to begin with.
The anniversary continues with an old episode of Gamesmaster that I picked at random.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, Anna Nicole Smith stars in her own Die Hard ripoff—Skyscraper.

Well, it got 🐹.
Bolt it ain't.
Honestly, this premise could have been done way better. The only evidence of Jerry Bruckheimer's involvement was its explosions. 😛
