Our Next Feature Presentation: Hard Target (1/17)

Join Us Friday, January 17th @ ~8:00PM (US/EST) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over SEVEN years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

And tonight we're running Demon Cop.

From the great (by "great" I mean "terrible") Fred Olen Ray, comes the story of a former probationary officer, now a patient at a mental asylum, who escapes and prowls a city in search of victims whose blood may cure the disease that has turned him into a werewolf-type monster.

We ran a sensational clip from this in the chat some weeks ago that came off like a Fallout Super Mutant monologuing an emotional soliloquy. In lieu of a trailer, I'd rather not run that clip again, just to leave something to look forward to, so here's the opening introduction of the movie... that still doesn't reveal much of anything...

Alright, we'll start off with another episode of Time Trumpet, coming to us from the year 2031 to tell us about the (past) future year of 2008.

Then, at the top of the coming hour... a movie which even producer Fred Olen Ray admits is a pizza shit (that's saying a lot): Demon Cop.

Well, we goof on him a lot (in fairness, he shows up in a lot of bullshit), and now we bear witness to one a movie written by, directed by, and starring Brian Thompson.

What we have here is a comedy film (I think) about a washed-up Hollywood action movie star who gets one last shot at "redemption" when he's offered to direct and star in a [porno?] movie in Uzbekistan. This is The Extendables (Yes, that definitely sounds like a porno title)...

Also featuring curious bit parts and cameos from Michael Kove, Mark Dacascos, Craig Kilborn... and Patrick Warburton.

He goes to Uzbekistan to extend himself in a porno. Sounds about right.

Okay, we're starting off with Lowtax NOT playing Rocket League and some other stuff.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, Brian Thompson and his D-List compatriots are The Extendables.

Of all the throwaway sci-fi flicks of 1995, at least Species holds up pretty well.

A group of scientists try to track down and trap a killer alien seductress before she successfully mates with a human, with Sir Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Forest Whitaker, Alfred Molina, and Natasha Henstridge.

I have been wanting for us to watch species for a while now, so I'm gonna try to make it tonight.

Tonight, what happens when two different Species try to mate? Scientists are trying to prevent that from happening.

Before that, a different pre-show than my usual.

Looks like a straight up ★★. That CGI at the end, it almost looks cool, almost looks good, but not quite.

Oh, HO-OH-HOOOOOoooooooooooooo...

This week's Kung Fu Friday, we're rolling out something from the Godfrey Ho Cinema channel that doesn't look much like a "conventional" Godfrey Ho movie at all: Shaolin vs. Ninja.

Likely one of the perfunctory "chop-socky" fare he was attached to before he began "westernizing" his movies in the 80's...

Well, it got ★★. Nothing special. "Kill yourself for the sake of ninja warrior snit." Well, that's what my ears heard.

[up][up][up]I gave you a heads up multiple times that I'd be absent Thursday thru Saturday this week (as early as last Friday before you headed out for Labor Day Weekend and, again, as late as this Wednesday).

Anyway, tonight, we glimpse a dystopian future where teens and young adults are given autonomous control of the bodies of death row convicts to do participate in a death sport modeled like a "first-person shooter." The future of video games, I suppose.

Get psyched for Gamer, with Gerard Butler, Terry Crews, and Ludacris.

Sorry, I forgot. I saw the pre-show set up.

I babysit again today, too. (I was literally told about this 5 minutes ago!) I'll try to get it started at 7:30pm tonight, but I'd like other people to be aware.

Tonight, we see what someone apparently thought the future of video games would be, before microtransactions reared their ugly head. Instead, we have a game where people control death row convicts, which honestly sounds preferable to the shit EA and 2K and Activision are doing today. I present you... Gamer.

And before that, more classic cartoons of a rabbit named after an insect in plural.

"I fucking teabagged him!"

Well, the creators of this movie did some research, I can say that! [lol]

They have a character with the screenname VAGINALBLENDER. Yeah, they did their research. tongue

If this is the future, it's full of excess and morons. A woman whose dog is peeing on her?

Ship left after 30 minutes, saying the movie is miserable. Dang.

Lew was the only person besides Ship who showed up. X was his rating.

Really, this movie should have been better considering its premise. It honestly showed promise in the early minutes imo. But nope.

[up]Yeah, we need to get more eyes on this one.

Anyway, tonight we finally complete our "set" on dreadfully horrible 1980 disco movie musicals. First came The Apple (   X   ). Next came Can't Stop the Music (also    X   ). Now, finally, we have Olivia Newton-John in Xanadu.

Gene Kelly on roller skates, glowing people who I dream about being killed by bloodthirsty bats, and all the rest...

Hey, after the monkey-edited and-written Gamer, Xanadu is gonna seem like goddamn Wizard of Oz by comparison. And this is from someone who tried watching the new Aladdin, Wrinkle in Time, and The Dark Tower movies and barely got out alive.

Honestly, I think I'm gonna give Xanadu at least a [awesome][awesome] rating because most of the music is awesome (all except for the boring as hell "Don't Walk Away," the forgetful "Suspended in Time," and the excruciatingly awful "Suddenly.") Hell, I think "All Over the World" is one of Electric Light Orchestra's best songs.

Haven't seen it in a while, so we'll see from there.
