For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube
which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B
to Z
, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.
For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE
) to repeat in the chat.
We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Fact is the movie makes a clear tonal shift from Alien to E.T., the Bible plays a role in that shift, and it's godawful. Moreover, it just dawned on me that the black guy who died had a skull that was also black.
Anyway, tonight is Freaked, and I've determined that the opening credits look nicer than the one copy of a trailer that I've found.

Correction: It became good after it read about human society and especially human literature. It learned morality from Bible passages. So yeah, it basically became good after reading the Bible (or parts).
Even so, it's still incredibly stupid. I'm supposed to believe this THING just magically became good after brutally hunting down and killing three crew members? Self defense my ass, it killed them and then LIQUIFIED their tissues. Who attacked it? Nobody really posed a threat, nobody had shot at it or used flamethrowers.

Frankly, I'm not sure which is worse—the fact that the self-defense/"humans inherently hate what they can't understand" argument seems dubious (i.e. the alien justifies killing one crew member because she poured acid on him, even though said crew member only seemed to be reacting to the alien trying to caress her facial area with a spiky pincer of doom) or the fact that it's a tired cliche that the movie doesn't do anything interesting with.
The third act comes off a lot like that bit from The Fifth Element where the Supreme Being is going through every word in the English language and happens to decide to go into greater depth on the word "war"... except waaaaaaaay more stupid.
Alex Winter (the guy from Bill & Ted who wasn't Keanu Reeves) is a celebrity who gets caught up with an evil megacorporation, a freakshow carnival in a South American jungle run by Randy Quaid, toxic waste, and Mr. T as a bearded lady.

I can accept a stupid movie. I especially can accept a stupid movie that knows what it is or at least does not attempt to be meaningful. However, when a stupid movie ATTEMPTS to be meaningful and FAILS HORRIBLY, then I feel insulted and I will promptly tear said movie a structurally superfluous new behind.
War is God.Weird problem. I can't find a copy of Turkish Star Wars with English subtitles at present. Not like it would really make much difference, we can still watch it WITHOUT subtitles (or with French subtitles), if we so choose.
Also, I've finally added I Can CRAWL Again to the Glossary.

What about the version we watched last time? Was that taken down?
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Is it ironic? I'd have thought a Turkish film being taken down by a Turkish copyright holder would make sense...or did you mean the ironic part was someone protecting the film with a copyright?
Also, what's on tonight? I'm on the edge of my seatnote , waiting to find out what film #200 will be!
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerWell, there's one thing they can't take down, and that's the old Google Video.

That blog posting is from 5 years ago, and I think it has been taken down since then (just like how FOX took down the Google Video copy of The Star Wars Holiday Special because they wanted to claim ownership over the cartoon segment).
And I'm not sure we can play a Google Video on Synchtube, anyway.
Objectively speaking, it's generally difficult enough to stay focused on just a chatlog and a non-English video that already has English captions. I can only imagine following a chatlog, a non-English video, and a separate transcript being even more work for any one of us.
(That said, now would be the absolute best time to announce what I have already been planning on showcasing for Our Glorious 200th Movie
)
If anything, I'd rather make a point of acknowledging that we'd miss and/or pay less attention to English subtitles overtime, anyway, and just press on with available copies of the movie with foreign/absent subtitles... or just settle on a different past feature to revisit for tonight.

AAAAAWWWW YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEUH
EDIT: I just remembered my baby cousin will be coming over (AGAIN), so my activity might vary a bit during the movie, depending on how much she comes into the room and bugs me.
EDIT 2: Never mind, that's tomorrow.

, smooth jazz fight soundtrack, "crossed streams", brief consideration for drowning a baby, and the Anti-Life Equation.
Tonight's movie will have it all!

Well, that was a surreal movie. It had its moments, but really... saying that it became good after reading the Bible is a gross oversimplification.
