For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube
which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B
to Z
, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.
For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE
) to repeat in the chat.
We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

I can't show up, tomorrow. I'll be working.
At least, I'm supposed to be working. I'm pretty sure that I can't call in 'Trump', but we'll see.
This is a signature.Know what that means?
GEORGE LUCAS WAS RIGHT.
The hardest thing about grieving over this election is that the "acceptance" stage for many of us entails an implicit acknowledgement of our white male privilege which gives us the least to lose, and I'm even more deeply troubled by what those same implications can mean for anybody else. Nevertheless, it's up to us as individuals to just go out into a frightening new world, strive to make what we can for ourselves, and try to be the difference in what we believe is right. Gotta be a superman to survive.
Anyway, if anybody needs a distraction tonight, I'll rerun some cheeseball comfort food with Hulk Hogan, Richard Moll, Barry Bostwick, James Hong... and Jack Nance

As far as I'm concerned, Sean, if the electorate wants Trump, they'll get him, and all the attendant things that come with it.
They'll probably learn that if you put your hand in a blender, you're bound to lose it.
And when the inevitable happens, there'll be those some of us who can say "Don't blame me. I voted for Kodos."

"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."Aren't you and I a part of the electorate? If you're thinking there will be harsh consequences somewhere down the line for Donald's election, then that means most everyone will be impacted by them, regardless of whether they voted for it or not. And I can be cynical, but I'm not feeling nearly cynical enough to infer that I, myself, and others who didn't want Donald to lead us are in any way deserving of the potential fallout that may arise out of his actions.
In the end, getting to say, "I voted for Kodos" is nothing but a hollow brag when your hand is still stuck in the same proverbial blender like everybody else.
You may not be in a situation where you're directly affected by most change, but I can tell you first hand when I reached the age where my parents' health insurance no longer covered me, and I had to seek out and pay my own policy, Obama's single most important piece of legislation made it possible for me to find a healthcare plan without either having to pay far more money or being denied coverage entirely just because I have a pre-existing medical condition. That helped my well-being and my wallet, and that could mean a lot to you, too, when you have to start paying for your own insurance, as well (if you wouldn't already get coverage through an employer).
Prior to Obamacare, private insurers were much more averse to give insurance coverage to the people who would be most likely to have to actually use it, and Republicans insistent on repealing it could make this shit difficult for me all over again.
The harshest it's probably going to get is that nothing improves for the working class. When Trump fails to have made America great again they'll become disillusioned with him - and if the Democrats can act on it, they'll win the next election.
Don't forget there are still many Republican officials that hate Trump's guts.
"They say I'm old fashioned, and live in the past, but sometimes I think progress progresses too fast."
Wishing you a good night and a pleasant tomorrow. Hope to have you back with us again Thursday night/Sunday morning.
Anyway, here's some necessary distraction for the rest of us.
First up, Richard O'Brien guides another team through The Crystal Maze.
Then, at the top of the coming hour... Hulk Hogan is in need of serious rescue from the Secret Agent Club.

That movie was a great way to take my mind off of the election results!
Also, this might help.
And, is it just me, or does the trailer for Z. P. G. feel more like a comedy video making fun of the movie than an actual trailer? It's just so Narmy and spastic, jumping around from weird scene to weird scene.

I was shown an old film reel advertisement (among several) at the final session of that brief History of Horror & Sci-Fi Film course I was attending, and what first caught my eye was this shot of one of the infant/toddler bots walking, which also seemed weird. There were a lot of older B-movie films from the 50's, 60's, and 70's that came up in the final two sessions that are just right up our alley.
The inception of this dystopian film in particular, though, is an intriguing one. It's inspired by the ideas published a best-selling (alarmist) nonfiction book at the time called The Population Bomb
that warned about overpopulation and other late-60's, early-70's societal trends and anxieties would have devastating effects on the planet which... never quite panned out as they had projected over time.
And pretty much everything else narratively, culturally about this title and the period it was made is all right there on the movie poster
◊ (notice the bellbottoms).
With Oliver Reed and Geraldine Chaplin. Here is Z.P.G. (Zero Population Growth)...
Aww, that sucks! I hate that. Looking forward to Kung Fu Friday, then.
Well, first up... I'll run an episode of Iron Chef.
Then, at the top of the coming hour, Oliver Reed stars in the Danish-American sci-fi dystopian film Z.P.G. (Zero Population Growth).

Change a few words around, and this prayer is apt right now. Crom... please give me strength in my darkest hour. Don't let Carrot Hitler get the highest office in the United States of America. Let it be known that a few stood against many, and that is all that matters. And if you do not listen... then to HELL with you!
