Our Next Feature Presentation: The Stuff (10/12)

Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

[up]That's too novel and brilliant for words.

Anyway, time to start our quirky documentary double-feature.

First up, the very unusual, very Australian Cane Toads: An Unnatural History.

Following that at the beginning of the coming hour, it's the even more unusual and much less Australian Law Enforcement Guide to Satanic Cults.

[up]Yeah, it's an odd documentary, designed to educate police about the markings of "Satanic cults". Bi discovered it through an article on Cracked.

I think we should look up the cop/preacher behind this film, but an internet search indicates that the "expert" they hired was a conman with a sad history behind him. It was so obviously full of made-up stuff it was ridiculous. One of the least boring documentaries I'd seen.

Tonight we get back to the horror business with some post-Scream slasher fare from Europe.

The other wiki tells me this is a German film, but all I can vividly recall from when I last saw this over 12 years ago are British accents and a British pop-punk soundtrack asking me, "What ever happened to the 80's?" (I don't know, I think it turned into the 90's)

The violence is... for lack of a better term, well-executed, and it does what it can to make up for the fact that the slasher's 'wetsuit + skull mask' getup is flat out silly.

So yeah, let's go for a dip in The Pool.

This might be a hard sell (no pun intended), but I want to suggest a part of a silent film for the pre-show. The Mystery Of The Leaping Fish:

Strange short silent film from 1916 about a "Scientific Detective" using copious amounts of cocaine, an array of quirky gadgets and his not always quick wit to solve the titular mystery. A bizarre thinly veiled parody of the "Sherlock Holmes" series.

Starring Douglas Fairbanks.

However, there is also a two-part long version (as in, 1:46:54 and 1:02:27).

Thoughts?

A bizarre thinly veiled parody of the "Sherlock Holmes" series.

Before I read that, I was about to suggest either this or "a precursor to Inspector Gadget, with a drug addiction".

I'll see about throwing that on the playlist later.

However, I'm not sure as of now if I'll be able to participate, as I got a very important deadline to reach by late this evening to prepare a hard drive with video and audio materials for a DVD/Blu-Ray, and if I don't get it done by this evening, it's a bigger hassle. Shame. I was hoping I'd get to watch this movie, again, too.

I bought this slasher on DVD because someday I will own all the slashers in the world.

It's a massive ripoff of the stateside deluge of Scream followers, but the deaths are fun.

[up][up][up]All the slashers in the world, huh?

Tell me, do you happen to have a small pizza shit called Bloody Murder? When I first laid eyes on that DVD or VHS box (whichever my Blockbuster had at the time) way back when, it looked like the most shamelessly unoriginal hack job around (for the record, I count three [3] elements ripped from other horror movies on the box cover, and the premise is lifted directly from a Friday the 13th sequel), and I didn't want anything to do with it at the time.

...But lately I've been hoping for an opportunity may present itself to get it showcased here.

[up] A friend once tried to pawn her copy off on me. But by that time, I knew the movie, and I knew better.

If you feel the group deserves to be punished for some reason, I'm all for showing Bloody Murder one night.

I guess it could be worse. You could show Ax 'Em.

As it turns out, the Youtube channel that hosted last night's satanic cult documentary has DOZENS more of those things, which is alright by me, as I've got way too much going on at the moment to put serious thought into tonight's playlist!

So hop on in now for another 40 minutes of that garbage.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we travel across the Atlantic and back in time to the Post-Scream Era of horror flicks, as we take a dip in The Pool!

I can't be here tonight.

Basically, when the movie comes from Youtube, it works fine, but, when it's from Google Docs/Video, it is in a constant state of buffering.

So, I can't watch it. Sorry.sad

It just so happens I have a new .gif to mark today's occasion...

Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo...

It's Kung Fu Friday, and Jackie Chan returns to us this week in Mr. Nice Guy

And, oh yeah, I probably won't make it tonight, on account of today also being my birthday, so I got other plans. But I'm sure the rest of you guys will still make the most of this spectacle for me.

Thank you very much, but, please, [up]call me Sean.

[up][up][up]And I thought you'd appreciate that. It was pleasing to learn what else Messi was up to during his recent trip to Japan, aside from juggling balls 18-meter-high I-beams.

I also made a .gif late last night of you know who pretending he's comfortable riding a horse because that's some CLASS fucking acting (Still no match for Wayne Rooney, though)
