For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube
which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B
to Z
, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.
For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE
) to repeat in the chat.
We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

What I'm finding most ominous is that the trailer hypes Dr. Phibes as a "specialist in the fine art of bizarre murder" (teenicide?) and then proceeds to give away every unique and interesting death. It's certainly is going to be another case where what a horror movie isn't showing you and what you're left to imagine on your own is what's most frightening.
Ah, yes, of course. NOW, I see what you are talking about. I remember seeing that movie several times as a kid. It wasn't until a few years ago when I looked back on it as an adult when I realized who utterly wrong everything was.
Anyway, our playlist ready to go tonight. We got more scattered glimpses at Limbo of the Lost, additional psychedelic weirdness from Everything is Terrible, new Lowtax and Shmorky, and more crazy stuff. Then, at the top of the hour, we will enjoy the return of Vincent Price as the Abominable Dr. Phibes in Dr. Phibes Rises Again.

One of the people I introduced to the group didn't seem to enjoy it. He didn't understand the riffing concept at first, and wanted to hold conversations. Actually, due to a huge number of obvious signs, I'm convinced he has undiagnosed Aspergers. I realize some of us have it and fit in fine, but he didn't seem to understand the group. I explained to him it's more about making fun of movies rather than complaining about them or discussing others. However, the idea that ALL our movies are bad didn't appeal to him, and he only visited us a few times, and some people gave him crap at times. His most recent visit was his idea entirely - he asked what I was doing, and I told him, and he wanted a link to the chatroom to join. I told him "Remember, it's about making fun of the movie, not complaining about it." He didn't seem to fit in and didn't stay for long, getting bored after a while.
So that didn't work out well.
Tonight's movie isn't a Godfrey Ho film
but does have Cynthia Rothrock, and it looks interesting.
Godfrey Ho fascinates me. His cut-and-paste technique for making so many movies, his mixture of bad storytelling and excellent yet corny choreography, his tendency to make the same kind of thing again and again and again (check his IMDB filmography), the way he pumped out tons of movies every year; does anyone else think he's on the spectrum? I know Tommy Wiseau definitely has gotta be (if you want even more evidence, read The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero and pay close attention to the details about Wiseau's personal life), and I suspect James Nguyen might be as well (he seems totally unaware of what kind of movie he was making and in the DVD commentary, constantly points out of the obvious, and treats the environmentalist messages as if they're subtle). Likewise with Sam Mraovich, whose goofy plot in Ben and Arthur makes no logical sense and goes against normal human behavior, and from what others have said, tends to not make good eye contact/focus a lot.
I'm actually trying to lay down the ground work for my own Godfrey Ho Ninja-inspired screenplay at the moment. With luck, I'll have a first draft to share with anybody who is curious about it sometime in the next couple of days. For the most part, I'm just working on laying down a down a by-the-numbers formula that's true to Ho now; then future drafts will be fleshed out a bit more and given a more personal spin.
Anyway...
Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo...
Yes, Kung Fu Friday is upon us again, and this week, we got more action with coven-favorite martial arts actors Cynthia Rothrock and Bolo Yeung kicking ass, ripping faces, and taking names in Tiger Claws. Can YOU solve the mystery of the murdered martial arts masters? Well, if you watch the trailer, that should give you enough of an idea, anyway...
You remember Kung Fury, right?
Hmmm, just realizing now that only one of the multiple uploads of Tiger Claws is in English, and it's got low quality image and sound.
Maybe it's just me and the mood I'm in, but I really wanted to deliver a better quality image this one upload actually has. It's passable, and we've arguably endured worse, but I was hoping for better, both for myself and for all of you. If, perhaps, we were to call and audible and go with a different feature, I can offer a compromise and go with the sequel Tiger Claws 2 that has all original leads reprising their roles (esp. Rothrock and Yeung) and a much better upload quality.
Very well then. In any case...
Oh, Ho-Oh-HOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo...
It is time to receive your weekly dose of martial arts goodness. Right now, we got more of Ninja: The Mission Force and the usual Godfrey Ho insanity. Then, at the top of the coming hour, we start Tiger Claws, with coven favorites Cynthia Rothrock and Bolo Yeung.

Give credit (blame) where it is due!
Jinx, what you found is so ungodly (ironic, it being religious piece... I think) I'm at an utter loss for words. Everyone else, that means we have something you just GOT to know about before we all surely get better acquainted with it real soon.
Very sadly, there aren't any trailers or short clips we can share with you to summarize this extraordinary piece. ...But there is a separate 14 (FOURTEEN)-minute short from the same production team that gets the general points across.
No more words now. Just hit play, below, and let it happen to you...
Also, I just added Yoko Jackson to the Glossary
, as I had promised after our last screening of Turkish Star Wars, but I couldn't think of anything to say about it, apart from it being a mondegreen from the stated source.
If you got any suggestions to help spruce up that description, I'm open for ideas.

Well, since it's a killing incantation, why not just call it that?
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987![]()
Would you prepared to microwave the remaining 75% on Monday then?
I'll see about finding room for it starting tomorrow night.
In any case, we may be finished with TekWar, but thanks to an excellent find by Jinx, we can get some more William Shatner in our Saturday nights.
Tonight, William Shatner stars in Impulse, a psychological "thriller" about a leisure suit-sporting playboy (Shatner) who can't help killing the women he falls in love with.
No trailer, but that's all for the best because now I get to make use of this excellent clip of Shatner killing Oddjob from Goldfinger (Harold Sakata)
Plus, during pre-show tonight, Christopher Lee guest stars in this week's episode of Space: 1999.

I think that one's on the list.
I was going to say something else, but I forgot what it was.
