I'm pretty sure none of the historical ships had missile launchers either.

Why, some sailor might have smuggled an RPG aboard.

On the more serious note, though, I'll have to agree with the people in-universe: functioning bridge and living quarters make no sense aboard of a ship that is controlled entirely by an AI and has destroying anything human-made in the seas as its mission. So, yes, discovering that Fog ships had bridges and what not even before they gained Mental Models is rather surprising.

Subbed Cadenza movie can now be found online.

And I love the new Kongou design. And shy child Musashi we see in the flashback is adorable.

As for the rest... I'll stick with manga continuity.

Found it. Not that the sub was particularly good, but at least the sub was good.

A full broadside like that tends to be more effective if you're not trying to ram your target. That's not traditionally done with the broadside facing the target.

She's leaking oil. Or some kind of non-water-soluble liquid.

You know, if you're sending a message, it tends to help to actually say what the message is.

Shizuka seems a little less aware of what she's doing here.

Ashigara is just as awesome as in the manga.

I don't think that gas thing makes nearly as much sense here as in the manga.

I find it interesting that Shizuka doesn't know what she wants. Kind of hinting at how comfortable she is where she is.

I find it amusing that Takao thinks Hyuuga is too human, since I'd say Takao is probably more human than most of them.

Don't remember entering a school? Remind me, what was she doing before this?

I recognise that attack pattern. A death spiral. I do it from time to time in World of Warships. Funniest if you're a destroyer against a battleship. And enough health to tank the secondaries.

Ashigara isn't a warship. She's a ship-like warmech. Well, not that the rest of them aren't, but she makes it particularly clear.

I like how Ashigara is far more excited about Takao's weaponry than Takao is.

And then Musashi ate a Yamato Cannon to the face.

Going to agree about the manga continuity being better. In particular, the ending feels tacky, if anything. It's kinda nice, but it's not nearly as emotional as it was supposed to be. Also a case of trying to have the cake and eat it, with the post-credits scene. It doesn't help that if you want to, you can write off the entire main plot by describing it as a child throwing a tantrum on a global scale. I liked the part with Kongou, though.

Overall, I got the impression that they took a bunch of scenes from the manga to pad out the film with, whether it made sense or not. Lots of scenes where they just fire tons of guns at Iona for the sake of tension, but it miss about as much as those shots.

Manga Ashigara, or the one from Cadenza? Because the former's shown recently to be actually reasonable, especially when she called out Iona on letting her emotions get the better of her.

I'd say, Ashigara in manga does have shades of this, but I see her more as a something of a Noble Demon who wants to fight Iona (whom she now sees as her worthy opponent) when they both are at their best.

Plus, her Mental Model (and her Union Core) is currently stuck inside I-401, meaning that if Kongou or someone else sinks I-401, she (and Haguro) are going down as well. Thus, she also in an enemy mine situation.

P.S. Doesn't Hakugei III deserve a mention of the third time is the charm trope for herself? She's doing pretty well so far, while her two (unseen) sisters have been sunk pretty quickly by the "Fleet of Fog"

Manga version. I was mostly thinking about that she didn't want to sink Iona if it wasn't in a fair fight. Noble Demon is an overlap the way I see it, as they're related concepts.

I was just adding a couple of tropes, and happened to notice that one.

I'm not quite sure that's Enemy Mine, though.

Third Time's The Charm probably fits. I forgot the number. The previous two aren't shown, but other than that it fits.

Well, there indeed is no mention of Hakugei I anywhere, but considering the fact that second (mentioned) and third do officially exist, I think, one can safely assume that it also existed at some point.

The thing about it is that I'm not sure if the trope requires Show, Don't Tell, as a shown repetition, which that would fail.

Hm... Do point defense nodes used by Takao vs. seehunds (ch 37 specifically) and airplanes used by Iona count as attack drones?

We have Attack Drone, Surveillance Drone, and Mook Medic (which Drone Deployer claims includes shield drones/mooks), but not Defence Drone (or Decoy Drone). There is Orbiting Particle Shield, but that's slightly different.

I think drones with any kind of attack capability would count as Attack Drones, even if their purpose is defensive, like shooting down incoming missiles.

The decoys might count for Doppelgänger Spin. Not sure.

Iona's planes are definitely Attack Drones.

As much as I'm really tempted to watch online (and I almost did), I still wish for an actual local release in theaters, as the currently available subtitles for Ars Nova Cadenza is...

For one thing, I facepalmed at the translation of "teitoku" to "leader." And I've been exposed long enough to the KanColle fandom (which overlaps with the Arpeggio fandom anyway) to know that "teitoku" means "admiral." Yeesh.

With Captain America: Civil War showing earlier than anticipated (April 27), the next best scenario might be for Cadenza to have its local premiere as soon as the hype for the former movie (and X-Men: Apocalypse) dies down...but yeah, (*sighs*) good luck with that...

[up][up] Then we should probably have this trope added to the series's page. Or at least to Iona's character section

P.S. There are some tropes that are unique to manga (e.g. Brits with Battleships, Attack Drone, etc. Foreshadowing entry also has nothing referencing the anime) - not sure that there are enough of them to validate separate block on the main page, but...

P.P.S. Taking You with Me Kongou towards Matsushima (with Gunzou aboard) after Iona's planes torpedo her?

Last one, yes.

If there should be any kind of split between manga and anime, the anime should get a section for unique tropes for that, since the manga is the source, and everything that is in both should go there.

There is already a split "Shared between media" and "Anime unique", but given how anime and manga are different A Us, there are quite a few tropes that appear in manga but do not appear in anime, which, technically, means they don't belong in shared folder.

Also, where does curved-beam Super-Graviton Cannon which is unique to Hiei (ch 59 pg 13) fits in? It's not roboteching since the beam isn't seeking target by itself, nor it can be controlled after it leaves Hiei's immediate vicinity.

Got my hands on 74's RAWS. My, my, Kongou, even when defeated and sinking, you still put up a fight. Also, it seems that full burst mode isn't unique to submarines - Yukikaze has one. Furthermore, even if just a destroyer, she is a great Badass, disabling and destroying an unnamed submarine like it was nothing.

Okay... Things are getting really exiting in Yokosuka. Haruna is finally there, and Takao has to keep her away from things. And Yamato is more or less personally observing her efforts. And has Atago her her out as well. And government, meanwhile, is trying to decide what's the deal with I-402/I-400.

↑ that, however, doesn't mean that things are all calm elsewhere. Yamato supports Vampire as the latter approaches Hakugei. And we still have no idea how Gunzou escapes the predicament Kongou put him in.

P.S. I wish I could read Japanese...

P.P.S. Atago is such a cutie.

Question: Any information about what happened in Africa? We know that USA survived, China and Russia become new superpower, Europe goes to handbasket because reasons, and SE Asia... kind of survived. What happened to Africa and all their potential resources?

[up] Never mentioned, as far as I remember. All things considered, I don't think central and southern Africa even noticed the naval blockade. Egypt and other northern Africa countries, though, probably, have it pretty tough.

[up][up] Anyone knows, what happened to the translation projects? Even crunchyroll isn't doing it anymore... I might actually try doing some translations again, but I'm really short on free time these days. Are there any script-type translations around that I could use? - google.translate can take you only so far...
