After rereading "A Series of Unfortunate Events", I naturally decided to read the trope page for it. It mostly made sense, but I came across one portion that confused me somewhat: It was listed under Gray and Black morality. Don't get me wrong, I can see how this would fit, but a few of the statements make me wonder.

First of all, who's to say that Olaf is completely indicative of his side of the schism? It's perfectly possible that there were noble people on his side of VFD (there were certainly ignoble people on the other side). After all, not all fires are started to burn libraries, and not all fires are a bad thing. There are two types of people, those who start fires, and those that put them out. But there might be volunteers who start fires, and villains who put them out.

I think the series is a lot better thought out than to apply to a single type of morality, and that the conflict defined belongs more under Blue and Orange Morality, not Grey and Black.

Also, my tea is far too bitter. Does anyone have any sugar?

Strangely, I see what you're saying. And now if you'll excuse me, I need to find those books for cheap and reread them in order to have more intelligent things to say in this conversation.

I think there's a trope for that: Villains Act, Heroes React or some such.
