I honestly don't think that the Youth Camp scenes should be removed because they actually wrap up the plot line for The Podesta and his son Candlewick and honestly, I loved how that scene played out although I wished that they showed us what happened to Candlewick after his father got blown up.
I love animation, TV, movies, YOU NAME IT!Oh my days, that was fantastic. I feel pretty comfortable calling this the best animated film of the year. It just...gets almost everything right and it looks incredible. This was years and years in the making and it shows and it payed off handsomely. Also, uh, Tom Kenny as Mussolini. That certainly threw me. Also goddamn was this good at making me hate Volpe and Podesta. Assholes.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Congrats to the film's Golden Globes
win!
Accepting the Golden Globe, del Toro proclaimed that “animation is cinema,” continuing, “Animation is not a genre for kids, it’s a medium.”
Since the category’s inception in 2006, only four winners of the Globes’ animation category have failed to win at the Oscars: “Cars” (2006), “The Adventures of Tintin” (2011), “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (2014) and “Missing Link” (2019). They lost to fellow Globe-nominees “Happy Feet,” “Rango,” “Big Hero 6” and “Toy Story 4,” respectively. Steven Spielberg’s “Tintin” is the only film to win the Globe and not receive an Oscar nom.
The GDT's Pinocchio Sweep is still going strong because at the 50th Annie Awards, the movie won in five categories!
- Best Feature
- Best Character Animation - Feature
- Best Direction - Feature
- Best Music - Feature
- Best Production Design - Feature!
It also won Outstanding Producer of Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures
at the Producers Guild of America Awards 2022!
Very cathartic when you take into account the development hell it went through!
Guillermo getting all these Ws after his project was on Development Hell for so long is satisfactory
Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, nglAhhhh. Sorry, Pi B: TLW fans, that really could've stood to take it. But you know what, this one was actually really great and creative too, plus at least it's not another Disney/Pixar win.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)I'm very glad it won the Oscar for best animated film! I think this one and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish would have both been very deserving of the Oscar win.
I first saw GDT's Pinocchio back in January this year, and enjoyed it a lot. I was a huge fan of stop motion (mostly the films of Laika) when I was around 12-14, and this film really reminded me of why it was one of my favorite mediums.
Now I want to watch it again - my mom expressed interest in it, so I'll likely show it to her then.
Cold turkey's getting stale. Tonight I'm eating crow.I hope this win makes these things happen.
- 1-Netflix will learn to respect animation and make MORE actual quality movies and shows. No more cancellations
- 2-Disney will start making better movies and the animation industry will become more ambitious and innovative.
- 3-Everybody knows the 2 movies that could have possibly won were Puss in Boots and Pinocchio. I think this would have resulted even if Puss in Boots won but this shows Animation is an art (Not that Puss In Boots is not art.)

As long as this flower is in my heart. My Strength will flow without end.Wait, really? Part of me honestly thought it would end up going to Turning Red because it was from Pixar. (Yeah, I might still be sore about Klaus and The Mitchells vs. The Machines getting snubbed by Toy Story 4 and Encanto, what's up?)
Not to say Puss in Boots wasn't magnificent (it is, and it made me care about Shrek again), but the favoritism towards Disney just got me a bit cynical.
Yeah, I think it's pure coincidence. The Pauly Shore one was from 2021 and GDT's Pinocchio was in development hell for years until Netflix popped in to save it.

Another common Guillermo W.
Good to see him speak up on how badly animation projects are traeted by recognition awards
Prettiest Meta Knight Gijinka, ngl

There's something Sondheim-esque about Pinocchio's first song, namely the back-and-forth patter between him and Geppetto.
And on that note, David Bradley RULES in this. Absolutely my favourite take on Geppetto.
