Is the film literally named "Guilhermo del Toro's Pinocchio" or is that for marketing purposes? Because if it is the latter, we will have to disambiguate WesternAnimation.Pinocchio, either by year or by creator.

oh hey how are you doing?
True, in that way we would have WesternAnimation.Pinocchio 2022 and Film.Pinocchio 2022 sharing pages like YMMV, Trivia, Headscratchers etc., even though they are completely different from each other, barring being inspired by The Adventures of Pinocchio.

oh hey how are you doing?I feel like most people will end up knowing it as Gd T's Pinocchio, even if it's not titled that way, so might as well lean into it?
Also, apparently the film will be set during the rise of Mussolini so we're continuing the historical fascism theme from his previous works.
What's with all these Pinocchios in 2022? There is already one animated movie coming
and live-action remake this year. This will get confusing.
Its just the Follow The Leader Trope.
One group makes an adaptation of Public Domain and then another wants to get a better and cheaper adaptation out quicker to cash in on competition. Or some other related idea.
And its not always Disney being the leader either.
I'd consider Lies of P to be more coincidental though since I believe that's had a pretty lengthy development time and is in a non-Western country where I feel like "New Pinocchio movie announced" would be irrelevant.
They probably adapted Pinocchio purely because it was public domain first and thus no royalties for easily identifiable property for a non-western Indie studio to adapt.
In this case, I think it's...mostly coincidence. Guillermo del Toro's been trying to get funding for his version for ages (and it was announced by Netflix well before the Disney announcement), Disney getting around to it was basically an inevitability, and Lies of P seems to be independent too.
I'd say that other animated version is the obvious cash in.
Wow, that's gotta be the most CGI-like stop motion animation I've ever seen! Props to Netflix
