I... actually don't really mind the people who have their video's sponsors in the video itself. It's a different story from those unskippable ads that some vdeos have, at any rate. When they're in the video itself, I can just, you know, skip that part, so I don't find it that intrusive.

And at any rate, I'm glad that the Youtubers I like can make money of doing something they enjoy. I don't frown on Youtuber as an occupation.

Though I must admit, I did raise my eyebrows when I saw an ad in the subway once for a secondary school that had a clear tech focus, because it had "Youtuber" as one of the things you could educate yourself as. Though the reason I went "What the hell?" is more so that I wonder what on Earth would be included in that curriculum.

We absolutely would not. I dunno about you, but the last thing I want in my youtube videos are ads snuck into the content. Rather, we should be pushing for the reverse, if possible.

I’m not sure how you’d do the product placement in many cases, if the video isn’t of something happening in live-action how would you do product placement?

You can do banner placement I guess, that’s what many Twitch streamers do, which is different from them being sponsored to produce the specific product (what we normally see).

I think that’s probably the big difference, You Tube creators are generally sponsored to make a specific video product about a specific subject, rather than having a general sponsorship for whatever video content they decide to make.

TBF to that ad, it might've been a curriculum on video editing and production. skills that arne't necessary for youtubing but helpful.

Yep, that's happening to me too. A few times I've gotten the videos page to load, but even then it won't scroll down.

My reaction while ago "Hmm what is this Akkad something channel youtube is recommending me... Wait is that dude on thumbnail that Sargon guy? *instantly clicks don't recommend this channel again*" Anyhoo video was them interviewing Shadiversity so I guess rumors on that guy going down rabbit hole are more likely now

Oh really, yeah I always suspected Shadiversity would end up going down that path, given what I've seen of him.

I really hate how nowadays when people say "Sargon of Akkad" they're referring to a know-nothing YouTuber and not the first emperor.

Hbomberguy once called him Carlgon of Swindon, and that's how I've thought of him ever since. It much more accurately represents what a ridiculous person he is.

So what's all this about Shadiversity? I like some of his takes on historical weapons; I went through a brief fad over them last year.

I have seen that he's pretty popular with the anti-SJW crowds apparently.

It never really comes up in his videos, but he pals around with anti-SJW types, and also Mauler's crew, for some reason. He also was apparently a consultant on Brandon Sanderson's last book, which just seems absurd to me.

I'm not surprised. I've seen a few of Shad's videos, and in his video about The Last Jedi (a popular target for the anti-"SJW" crowd), he explicitly described a podcast he's part of as "edgy" and casually used the r-word to describe one of the things that happened in the fight.

I presume that was about the historical weapons that Shad is actually an expert on. There was one scene where the Master Swordsman couldn't bring his magical sword, so instead he brought lots of mundane swords, and went on at great length about the advantages and disadvantages of every single one.

I guess I miss all the weirdness because I just watch his videos on castles. Like he’s the castle guy, why would I watch a video of his about Star Wars?

Well, I have watched enough of his content to think that he might lean slightly rightward on certain social issues, so it's not a surprise, more a feeling of resigned disappointment.

I don't know Shadiversity but anyone with Shad in their name instantly makes me want to run. You can thank Shadman for that.

Who is Carl Benjamin of not Akkad anyway? I decided to do quick googling and what I got basically was "Well one of better people on the right by rest of youtube right being much worse, he is just a complete idiot who thinks he is smarter than he is"

He started out as a centrist when it was obvious he wasn't but thats what he played himself off as. Sargon would cherrypick a lot of weird stories about SJW types and feminists and then act like thats how the whole left was like.

Hes notable in those days as he was part of the alt-right pipeline despite claiming to not be any part in it. As time went on he went full mask off in his bullshit and is now a Trumpist and definite alt-righter. I also recall hearing that he tried to go for a political position somewhere but he dropped out because he got busted for child porn. That clearly didn't stick considering hes still around.
