Well, I recently got a taste of the guy who is second on the Af D list (which means that he most likely will be elected)…

let's just say that I am sorry in advance. He had a media appearance which was so bad, Af D voters were complaining about it.

To paraphrase part of the interview (after he explained that he doesn't think that climate change is man made):

"so on which scientist are you basing this opinion?"

"How am I supposed to know? I am just a Miner."

Wisecrack recently made a video about Idiocracy, which i haven't seen yet, but Donald Trump and people like him getting elected around the world, i might have to check it out. i hope this right-wing shift ends soon

I believe Tarl Warwick, aka Styxhexenhammer666, even ran for Governor of Vermont in 2018 (it didn't work, obviously).

I may not know too much about Akkad but I do admit Sargon is a cool name to have. As for Carl Benjamin running for parliament, I hope he does well or at least realize how his ideas don't hold up very well under scrutiny.

A cursory look at his "career" implies that, no, Carl Benjamin is not the kind of man who will learn to behave himself or acknowledge that his ideas don't mesh with reality.

Channel Awesome was a million subscribers. Isn't that lovely? The Paul Brothers have million of fans. Isn't that fucking hilarious?

Any large number of people usually contains a certain percentage of arseholes.

Up the population and the absolute number of arseholes rises as well.

Remember that those are worldwide subscribers. It's a smaller group in the large scheme of things than it looks.

So why the hell do I still feel sick about it.

Because you take internet culture too seriously, possibly?

Like, I get that its disheartening, but feeling sick because of it comes across as melodramatic.

To be fair I don't understand why those people get so many subscriptions and fans either.

I have seen countless youtubers that worked harder on their content then the mainstream regurgitated nonsense and the alt-right channels that just repeat buzzwords constantly and manufacture outrages and yet those youtubers sadly tend to get no recognition.

Eh, it's like a trauma trigger. Sometimes bad things make you literally sick to the stomach, even if logically you know it's not really so horrible that you need to feel actual physical pain over it. I couldn't sleep for days after Trump was elected. That didn't help anyone, but it happened.

People are fucking assholes...

As someone who has gotten lot of advice from my therapist regarding getting depressed by events in the world, I'd say its good idea to practice similar stuff. Since honestly, assholes getting views isn't the worst thing that happens in this world.

Also as I said in other thread, assuming all million people are assholes isn't good idea since most of them probably don't follow comments or scandals or anything happening outside the videos. And some of them probably believe in "you can separate content and creator" thing. And rest of them are probably depressed and self medicate themselves with comedy.

Its probable. I did nearly fall down the alt-right youtube sphere once because I was depressed and in a bad rut in my life.

I suspect some of the people that follow those guys are in the same situation I was in years ago and that they may get out on their own accord.

But sadly the cynical part of me says that they might just fall further.

Thing about that is that depressed people self medicating themselves with videos, comedy or otherwise, is a ridiculously large minority of people. Like, every let's player has tons of "I LOVE YOU", "You saved my life!" or "You give me strength to keep going!" type comments that I'm seriously disturbed by it.

Like, I don't think they are all gonna go down on alt right train(since that depends on what types of videos they are watching and whether video creator supports those politics), but those type of people are likely to be super loyal viewers who don't probably care about much other than consuming the content since they apparently feel that miserable about their lives.

(part of why I'm disturbed by this is that assuming they aren't all melodramatic teenagers since some of them can pay twitch donations and patreon stuff, they should really get professional help. Plus telling that kind of stuff in public leaves them open for being taken advantage of by unscrupulous people)

I just feel that assholes are more and more controlling of the world. Some days, I feel hate and spite and other times I feel numb. I feel nothing. And when I see assholes being watched by millions, I die slowly. A little bit at a time.
