I don’t watch ads because I’m interested in what they’re selling, I watch them as payment to the You Tuber that I want to watch. Also I tend to alt tab and let the ad play in the background, as that still generates revenue.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranKinda hard to do on a Smart TV, but oh well...
Also, I was about to ask how exactly do you turn off your adblocker for YT in one tab (to allow ads to play) and have another tab that also has YT with the adblocker on. (I'm using uBlock Origin, so I know it doesn't work that way.) And then I realized, you just open a tab to surf something else.
The content creators don't have control over what ads play on their channels, do they? (I'll still stick with my stance that content creators should still get income from advertisers regardless of whether the latter's ads are skipped or not.)
"Learn as if you will live forever, live as if you will die tomorrow."I think there may be some control over if there are non-skipable ads or not, but they certainly don’t have any control over the ad content. It’s caused a bit of a stir when anti-LGBT groups started buying ad space on LGBT channels and running hate ads.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranIf by hard, you mean impossible, then yes. On a Roku at least, in the Youtube app, you CANNOT skip an ad unless you navigate away from the video and then back INTO it.
I really wish ads wouldn't randomly cut into the video.
I'd rather have them be either solely at the beginning, or solely at the end of a video.

You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life!ASMR has gotten fricking big and that is... quite terrifying to me. I was joking about Youtubers becoming the new wrestlers/rockstars - but now I'm seeing news articles blowing up over how extensive the ASMR community is.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!So, i'm hearing a lot about this T-Series group that could surpass Pewdiepie in subscribers and there is a lot of memes about it.
Basically indian Vevo, i don't what the deal is with that channel and how quickly it rose up to the top. Are all indians contractually obliged to subscribe to T-Series?
Uni catWhat's ASMR?
The Protomen enhanced my life.Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. It's a kind of "tingle"-like feeling that usually starts on your scalp before going down the rest of your body, you might've experienced it during things like trips to the barber or when someone's speaking in a quiet, calming voice.
ASMR videos are designed to elicit that response and can be used for anxiety relief, sleep aid, etc. due to the phenomena's calming nature. And... well, yeah! Can't say I interact with the actual community much but it's weird how big it's gotten as a side of YouTube. Not that I mind; I didn't know the damn thing had a name a few years back but I'm happy I know where to look for stuff like that now.
On that note what's the outside-looking-in perception of ASMR from news articles? Lots of people seem to think it's really weird so I'm curious what a news article's take on the community would be like.

🏳️⚧️she/her | Vio Rhyse AlberiaMostly seems to be "wow, look at this rising, inexplicable career! Here's what ASMR is for those of you at home! People are making money off of this - wow!"
- Washington Post - 87 million views, meet the Star of ASMR
- Whispering on the internet is paying this woman's rent
- These people make al iving with repetitive videos that give Youtubers pins and needles'
Gentle Whispering ASMR and ASMR Darling seem to be the A-listers, the "face of ASMR" now. And that kind of bothers me. Not that I'd call anyone a "sellout," but I did prefer ASMR when it felt more like a colony of anonymous internet people with a strange hobby, not a growing, news-worthy community with figureheads and financial opportunity. Some ASMR-tubers are partnering with car brands and advertising things now.
I guess that's the fate of any trend though really. If you're good at something never do it for free. Further, the equipment, time, and effort that goes into these usually results in better videos and more frequent updating.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Youtube's Creator Insider put up a video, where they "answered" the question on if monetization (or lack of thereof coz Youtube's algorythm) affects how videos are pushed.
They say no.
Problem is, this is something that's been repeatedly and easy demonstrated. So people aren't buying it. See the 2.1 K to 200 Dislikes to Likes ratio. This follows with a comment from them trying to again assure the thing everyone sees happening isn't.
2. The answer to the specific question 'is there a relationship between monetization and views on YT' is more nuanced. Whether a video has a yellow icon or not doesn't matter to our search and discovery systems. They are focused on delivering the best video to viewers. That doesn't mean that there couldn't be situations where the underlying reason for less ads or no ads is also used by search and discovery. For example, as some of your commentators noted, if a video is age gated or only appropriate for a subset of the audience it might get less ads. The decision about age gating or other such signals could also means that search and discovery might recommend the video less (because of age gating regardless of what ads systems decided). The ads decision to show a yellow icon for that video isn't passed on to the search and discovery systems. Todd answered that question in a previous video "You Tube Algorithm Questions Explained by You Tube Employees (Part 3)" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxRIUFyv_Rk 9:58 . As you will see he notes that there could be cases where at the same time that the ads systems decide to show less ads the search and discovery systems could make the same decision due to the underlying issue. So there could be a correlation but not causality.
Interesting video that points out that Jake Pauls' videos are actually illegal in most western country, as they violate a slew of laws on the use of minors and advertising towards minors.
The Sort by Upload Date filter was working fine until a few days ago, and now it bounces between 1 day ago, 1 week ago, 3 days ago, etc. without any rhyme or reason.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Saw that. Fortunately, these days I mostly navigate via subscribed channels. Speaking of something recent I did not find answers for: whenever I get a response to one of my comments on youtube, the bell in the top righthand corner shows twice the listed amount of fresh updates: ie, 1 unread comment shows up as a red '2', while 3 unread comments show up as a red '6', and so on. Anyone else have this problem over the last week+?
I had that as well, though it seems fixed.
The Protomen enhanced my life.So has everyone heard what happened with Behind the Meme?

I don't even get how those things even relate to net neutrality and the need of IS Ps to treat content equally. Ya think ISP will throttle 4 chan?

Vestigial gestures that affect more than 1 person financially mean a lot to me, especially when you're so prompt about it.
Now go fix that thing where LGBT videos get blocked for being too sexual. And all of the rampant, foreign language softcore porn videos that pop up in my suggested list for no logical reason. And all of the plastic explosive tutorials.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!I'm starting to feel offended by what You Tube keeps recommending me. I have never shown any interest in Family Guy or The Office.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Seems Youtube has a glitch, and the site is down now.

I would honestly love to read YouTube's terms are when it comes to allowing ad revenue for content creators.
Anyway, the one thing I look for in an ad is the brand or what product/service they promote. If they can't establish that in the first few seconds, then they suck as advertisers. (The other thing I look for in an ad is whether whatever they're promoting would be something I'll need or want—and most of the time, either I don't need them or I'm already using them, which makes the ads for stuff I already use effing redundant.)
Also another thing that sucks: Deliberately turning off adblocker software for YT channels the viewer wants to support with ads, and no ads play anyway. Either that or the ads follow the classic "give them an inch, they'll take a mile" maxim and play a five-minute long or longer ad. (Greedy cu-[♪SKELETON WARRIORS♫])
Oh, and online advertising companies aren't about to live down being notorious vectors for malware, especially since they lack any sort of quality control (like Steam when it comes to asset-flip shovelware).
