Actually having an ending is usually a step above most other stories, even if it's a forced one once the series got axed. Some series could probably do better if someone waves an axe in front of the creator so they don't drag it on for too long.

[up][up]I heard about the ending being a big disappointment, which is a real shame because it was a really unique idea.

[up]Still, bad endings are just... bad. Even short series usually span over the period of several weeks if not months, so an inadequate conclusion after all the wait tends to feel even worse than the actual quality of the ending itself.

Yowai 5000-nen no Soshoku Doragon Iware Naki Yokoshima Ryou Nintei -Yada Kono Ikenie Hito no Hanashi o Kiite Kurenai - Yes, the title is disgusting. Anyway: A little girl offers herself up as a sacrifice to a 5,000-year-old dragon, one rumored to be the fearsome leader of the Demon King's Army. Problem is, this dragon is actually a wimp and a vegan, so he's nonplussed to say the least. This confusion quickly turns into apprehension, because not only is this girl not willing to leave him alone, but she's also an incredible idiot. So much of an idiot, she doesn't listen to reason. So much of an idiot, she easily believes the two have formed a spiritual bond (a blatant lie on the dragon's part to make her go away). So much of an idiot, she unleashes her full potential just because she thinks she's tapping into this "bond", becoming a walking nuke in the process.

All the dragon can do is gape, fearing what kind of monster he's released upon the world.

So, since it was so short, I read it. Didn't think it was that bad. Ending kind of fit the rest of the series, I suppose? Overall a decent but relatively shallow series, and it shouldn't have been much longer anyway. Choice of girl was... expected. I could make an argument for why two girls had better chemistry with him, but I don't think the story was deep enough to provide proper context for it, and it's at best marginal anyway.

The cover page of the first chapter promised more girls but you are right that the story had limits.

I just don't like it that he ended up his sister. Adopted or not those solutions are really not my type.

To Your Eternity, volume 5… yet another gut punch, but this one completely unexpected. Imm suddenly realizes he can take Palona's form, which… isn't good news at all.

This has taken an interesting direction… though I can't help but think the series lost a bit of its magic when Imm started to talk fluently. It's inevitable though, considering he's supposed to evolve and learn as the series goes on. It doesn't help that I don't find the side characters of this new arc as memorable as Googoo-Lynn or Palona-March. It's still good though.

Just finished reading Love Roma, a really vanilla romance manga.

Negishi Yumiko is an energeic, outspoken high school girl. One day, she got confessed to by Hoshino Hajime, a very blunt and rather strange boy. While weirded out at first, spending time with him charmed her with his honesty and straightforwardness, and so she accepted his confession. And so begins their days as a couple.

What stands out to me is how their relationship is probably one of the healthiest romances I've ever read. They actually try to talk and work out their problems together, which brings them closer. No dramatic misunderstandings, no Poor Communication Kills. And each activity they do together only makes them both grow as people.

Definitely a refreshing read if you're tired of romance cliches.

New manga!

Gokushufudou: The Way of the House Husband - A man lives a quiet life in a small, old-fashioned apartment with his wife and cat. He is in fact once a legendary member of the yakuza, but has since retired and disappeared off the map to make character bento lunches every morning. He wants no trouble anymore, but the underworld is in no hurry to forget about him.

EDIT: Two updates:

Another chapter of Torako, Anmari Kowashicha Dame da yo was translated. Iss'a good 'un.

Kuzumi-kun, Can't You Read the Mood? - Heh, the look on Kuzumi's face.

[up]Gokushufudou has the potential to be something special. The set-up alone is just...A+, and it might have been carried by that alone. On top of that though, the art is absolutely goddamn phenomenal, which I honestly wouldn't have expected from something like this.

Hey, you're making me want to read it, stop this. sad I have too many stuff on my plate already.

…So Hotarubi no Tomoru Koro ni ended this month with chapter 21. I'm not entirely surprised considering where I'm at (chapter 19), but it seems slightly abrupt. There were a couple of mysteries that I find hard to wrap up in only two chapters. Hope it's not an axe. sad

So, I read some more of Goblin slayer today. I read chapters 11-15. Pretty great stuff. I liked the fact that all of the adventurers helped Goblin Slayer out. Also, GS himself continues to be awesome.

If you're enjoying GS, than you should probably read Goblin Is Very Strong. It's not about killing low-level mobs, no intense action, no Hate Sink, mostly about cute girls, is a 4-koma, and generally has almost nothing in common with Goblin Slayer, but the main character is a goblin. So there's that.

To be more specific, the main character of Goblin Is Very Strong is a female goblin, who is supposed to be a pitiful Mook type of monster, but has through sheer luck (read: she kept coming across near-dead heroes, whom she then killed off, each time gaining enough XP to level up) managed to reach all the way to Level 99, becoming vastly more powerful than any known "hero", and even rivals the Demon Lord in power (so much that he talks to her like an equal, which shocks newer Mooks in attendance). Life thus became really boring for her.

No, none of the above is a spoiler; it's explained within the first few pages of Chapter 1.

In other words, fantasy One-Punch Man.

Shiori Experience - Jimi na Watashi to Hen na Oji-san - A plain English language teacher working in a university prep school. Almost twenty-seven years old, unremarkable, living with her poor father and little sister, under crippling debt because of the missing brother she looked up to as a kid. Everyone in school, staff and students alike, look down upon her for her lack of aspirations... but she did in fact have one, buried deep down by her low self-esteem: She wants to make it big as a lead guitarist, making waves across Japan with her own band.

On the night of her birthday, the ghost of a certain guitarist comes to tap into those buried aspirations...

EDIT: Aw, crap. somebody on this thread beat me to the punch on page 20. Oh well.

That's the thread in general man. I thought we had it bad with Jitsu Wa, but Lynedith and her crew did that shit, and the series was popular enough to support that.

…Is The Memoirs Of Vanitas considered obscure? In any case, I've read the first volume and liked it quite a bit. It's a kinda Steampunk fantasy series that follows a vampire, Noé, who goes to Paris in search of a mythical grimoire called the Memoirs of Vanitas, an heirloom of a supposedly evil ancient vampire. What he finds with the book is a self-proclaimed doctor for vampires, a human called Vanitas who claims to have inherited his name and his book from the infamous vampire himself. But his vow to "save all vampires" might hide some less noble intentions.

Vanitas is an unusual protagonist, as he seems quite… unbalanced. Like he's constantly walking a tight rope between harmless excentricity and outright insanity. The banter between him and Noé is quite entertaining too. And by the end of the first volume you just… don't know what's up with this guy. He doesn't seem evil, but he doesn't seem to be good news either. It's intriguing.

Umareru Seibetsu wo Machigaeta! has one chapter, but it's super cool. It's the story of a bi trans woman's experience with sex reassignment surgery, and it's just a frank autobiographical manga, kind of in the vein of The Bride is A Boy. The key difference here is I kind of prefer the art of this one by a lot (though TBB is still, like, quality)

I finished reading all of Bokura no Hentai the other day and...I'm very emotional about it. I'm so proud of Marika, and honestly teared up at the fact that her mom is so supportive of her. The final chapter was really nice and bittersweet (much more sweet than bitter) but then the extra chapter about Tamura brought a lot more bitter. It's true that trauma is often hard or impossible to work through, and it sticks with you forever, and I'm glad the author didn't do something like "well, he talked about it with Ryousuke, so he's fine now", but...god, Tamura's mom is the fucking worst. That boy needs therapy.

they're gonna find intelligent life up there on the moon/and the canterbury tales will shoot up to the top of the best-seller list
