Rachel Cole-Alves's character arc in the most recent Punisher series (written by Greg Rucka) was incredible. The series only lasted 16 issues, sadly. A couple of those were only OK. But by and large, it was a masterfully-told series, with some brilliant characterization. Rachel's breakdown at the end was heart-breaking. I wish we could get to see more of her, because she's a great character, and doesn't deserve to simply disappear into obscurity. Sadly, I suspect disappearing into obscurity is exactly what's going to happen to her.

[up] I second this. I've been hard-pressed to find a good Punisher story since Ennis left MAX, but the whole saga of Rachel Cole-Alves really did a spectacular job of being a fun, interesting Punisher story that didn't need to leave the 616 to do it.

Preboot Blue Beetle's 'Endgame' arc. It was a great culmination of Jaime growing into the hero role, and the scarab's character development. His supporting cast was awesome and all had their moments, and were completely awesome. To list my specific favorite moments would take too long.

It was dramatic and epic, with some humor and heartwarming integrated well. The Reach were portrayed as a very real threat, but it also shows, believably, how Jaime is able to fight them and defeat them.

Also, I'm enough of a geek to have a piece of paper that helps me decode scarab speak, and one of my favorite lines in this arc is written in it.

It has callbacks to the previous Blue Beetles that do not require more than a passing knowledge of them. The characterization, the art, the plot... it all works out so well, and shows just what kind of hero Jaime Reyes is.

The Clone Saga!. Ba-dum-tish!

In all seriousness though, the Red Hulk arc, might be the greatest superhero stuff I've read in a while.

<.< I actually did like the Clone Saga, until they scrambled to try and end it. I've ranted before on how if Ben Reilly hadn't been hastily killed off in the rush to reset everything, One More Day never would have happened.

Ultimate Clone Saga was pretty good. Bendis's take seem to have been "Yeah, Clone Sage is a mindfuck. But mindfucks can be good." He changed the pacing and had Spidey be more freaked out and related when weird shit happens and I overly remember enjoying it.
