Whenever a complaint of a character mentions Kid-Appeal Character, I get suspicious. Much of the time, that's a good indication of a Periphery Hatedom.

Check out my fanfiction!Indeed.
That said, am I free to re-delete the entry entirely?
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.I agree.
Check out my fanfiction!Re-deleted while noting this thread as why.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.- Creator's Pet: Not in terms of people, but projects; some of the projects Rooster Teeth works on get a lot of hype and/or attention from the company itself, but due to various reasons that differ depending on who you ask, they aren't really as popular or well-received as you'd think from their advertising.
- The original example is Funhaus, which gets an absurd amount of attention and hype with Funhaus people appearing on basically every Rooster Teeth production several times, even in things they don't really have a part in (for example, they had a decently-sized appearance in the Let's Play Live documentary, which was an Achievement Hunter event, and they've had numerous appearances in On the Spot despite Jon normally trying to avoid too many repeat guests). It especially doesn't help that people in videos will constantly talk about how funny Funhaus is or how cool the Funhaus guys are whenever the topic is even barely hinted at. Lots of fans have gotten sick of Funhaus, because whether or not they watch their videos, the references to them in other Rooster Teeth videos have gotten repetitive. What further drives matters is how their videos often pop up on the Achievement Hunter feed on the Rooster Teeth website (particularly when Funhaus does Lets Plays) and they frequently contribute episodes of The Know, meaning even if you avoid their feed, you're going to have Funhaus content popping up.
- A more recent example is Avengers Academy, one of their sponsors which gets brought up quite a bit because Gus is the voice actor for Hawkeye in the game. As the game is quite divisive, even among Marvel fans, Rooster Teeth shilling the game has resulted in a noted backlash among several fans. Strangely enough, as the shilling is often coupled with them making fun of Hawkeye's character (to the point he's referred to as 'the worst superhero ever' and reacted to with surprise when the audience boos at that), this also has the opposite effect of annoying Marvel fans who feel they're unfairly bashing the character; essentially, they're alienating non-Marvel fans by praising the game while also alienating Marvel fans by taking shots at Hawkeye's character.
Those examples aren't characters. Are they valid?
No, that's not valid. The trope is explicitly about a character in a work.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpI wandered over to YMMV.Yu Gi Oh GX the other day and Jesse is listed as a Creator's Pet, even though he's also under Base-Breaking Character.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?YMMV.Jojos Bizarre Adventure lists parts 3 and 4 as Creator's Pet. They're chapters in the story, not characters. It also mentions Jotaro Kujo, who is FAR from The Scrappy, being one of the most popular characters.
I'd cut it. The example doesn't say anything about any fan or creator opinion, or even shilling. He's also listed as the second main character on the character page.
Cut.
Check out my fanfiction!Cut it a couple hours ago and cited this thread.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Sorry, I assumed there were no disagreements since it had been over a week since I justified the entry and nobody had contended it since then. And it didn't look to me like people were against its addition in the first place; I just re-read the posts to be sure and it sounds like the others had no opinion on the matter, but wanted to verify if it was a legitimate example of the trope, so they inquired about it.
About Kid-Appeal Character, I was just repeating the common fan complaints about Antoine and Dulcy. Not that it matters anymore; I wasn't going to add Antoine since he wasn't a Creator's Favorite, and I realized Dulcy doesn't count either since she didn't get that much shilling.
Just noticed that Carol is listed as Creator's Pet on YMMV.Ms Marvel. The trope right under is Ensemble Dark Horse, and even without that I'm pretty sure she's not The Scrappy. She's also a title character, so her focus isn't exactly out of proportion either. At best she fits two of the four requirements, which is far from enough.
Any objections to deleting the example since she doesn't meet the requirements for Creator's Pet?
Check out my fanfiction!Title characters cannot be this trope by definition. Toss it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Tossed.
Check out my fanfiction!Like Base-Breaking Character the trope isn't officially No Real Life Examples, Please! but I question the validity of this example.
- Creator's Pet: Creator example. Despite Marc Guggenheim's infamous lackluster reputation as a storyteller, he is made show-runner by franchise creator Greg Berlanti to five of the seven shows (Arrow starting its third season, Legends of Tomorrow, Vixen, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, and the upcoming animated revival of Constantine) mainly because they go way back.
We're not really allowed to apply YMMV to real people (YMMV is only allowed for creators if the YMMV page is about their work), so I'm inclined to say axe that example since it's troping real-life people.
Yeah, that's an axe. Even if we allowed YMMV for creators, Creator's Pet doesn't allow real life examples at all.
Check out my fanfiction!Found this on The Rise of Darth Vulcan:
- Creator's Pet: Darth Vulcan is seen as this by many readers. The main reason for this is he's acting as the author's mouthpiece for many of their issues with the show, and the narrative seems to bend over backwards and make everyone else idiots or jerks so he can be a credible threat and win confrontations in ways that are completely illogical (such as the calm, calculating, and very intelligent Tirek for some reason deciding to go Leeroy Jenkins into Vulcan's lair in his weakest form, despite Canon Tirek being smart enough to know when he's up against someone he has no hope of beating and go for manipulation rather than brute force).
Note that said character is also listed under Base-Breaking Character, but I haven't yet got confirmation as to whether that example is being used correctly or not.
Not familiar with the work, but starting with Weasel Wording is not an auspicious start.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpDidn't take long to find out why the character is disqualified. It's the protagonist.
Check out my fanfiction!I've got a query about this one. Main cast characters aren't eligible for this trope, are they? Keller was definitely part of the main cast. She was included in the opening credits and billed as part of the main cast.
- Jennifer Keller on Stargate Atlantis; since her inclusion in the fourth and fifth seasons, she has become the writers' favorite character. It has even been speculated that a few writers even use her to live out their fantasies. The writers are insanely defensive of this character, and it was even revealed by a producer that the more people complain the more she will be included in the episodes in an effort to make her appeal more to fans. With the exact opposite effect. In addition to Ronon and Rodney competing for her affections, Captain Alicia Vega was supposed to be introduced as a recurring character who ALSO had a crush on Keller, but most of her scenes were cut and she was quickly killed off.
Didn't see a Creator's Favorite entry either, so you can probably cut it.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yeah, no main characters.
Check out my fanfiction!Stargate Atlantis entry has been cut.
If my post doesn't mention a giant flying sperm whale with oversized teeth and lionfish fins for flippers, it just isn't worth reading.
Okay, to be clear, they removed Dulcy from the example, but they didn't let a consensus go through at all either. So it's not exactly what I first said. Apologies for that.
