[up][up] So does the original Zombie Elf, Llanowar Dead, although that came from a time when the race/class thing wasn't so important.

One thing I like about Invasion block is that cycle of creatures. I mean, come on, Merfolk Goblin? That is totally awesome.

Jarad should probably be a shaman rather than a wizard if existing Golgari precedent is anything to go by.

However, if you look at Glissa, there clearly isn't any room for a third creature type, and they probably thought Zombie Elf was too important. (Though really Elf shouldn't be there unless they want to errata the majority of zombies to Zombie Human...)

I guess it is.

It's like first edition AD&D (or Legend system): There's no difference between a race and a class.

Effectively, from a gameplay perspective, no. Flavor-wise, yes, there is. All those classless creatures are basically jobless.

DO YOU WANT JADAR BE BAD FOR RAVNICA'S ECONOMY?

DO YOU?!

He's a zombie. Zombies give zero fucks about the economy.

[up] This.

Also, IIRC, Golgari are the waste and sanitation department, so even less of a single fuck is given.

They're also big food producers, so the economy does matter to them.

Well, presumably there are jobs in Ravnica other than warrior, wizard, shaman, rogue, soldier etc. I mean, it probably has chefs even though there isn't a "chef" creature type.

Um, okay, apparently Jarad is not quite what we thought he was, and this is the real Jarad.

I don't know what the hell is going on anymore.

For some reason, part of me can't help but feel like at least one party on MTGS is intentionally disseminating false information. Maybe it's for kicks, maybe it's to keep us from getting spoiled on exactly what certain cards do by covering up the real info with a bunch of fake stuff before Wizards puts up a visual spoiler, I don't know. It's hard to say.

I think we can be confident on the first ability and that the second ability exists, if not on the cost of it.

Many fakes have been posted to MTGS before. Many more will be in the future. The mods there are pretty good at spotting them by now.

Note that most of the cards posted there, real or fake, are spoiled in other places on the 'net before being posted. Rootborn Defenses comes from someone's blog and Jarad from some Chinese Magic site.

I guess it is.

Meteor Storm has to be one of the most poorly-designed cards ever. "Hey, let's print a card that's double Stormbind!" Except, y'know, Stormbind is already double Stormbind. Just...um, activate it twice.

[up] I was about to bitch you out for that and then I remembered that I was thinking of Comet Storm.

[up]I'm glad that I'm not the only person who thought that. I mean seriously, Comet Storm is great design, the best way of fixing Fireball.

[up] It's definitely a lot of fun in EDH. I think at one point I ended up vaporising almost every creature that wasn't mine with it.

I hope the Gruul ability is Bushido that also applies on Fights. That's flavorful for them.

As someone with a beloved Rosheen Meanderer commander deck, I would never diss Comet Storm.

I actually think the Gruul ability might be some kind of Imperiosaur thingy. It's a mechanic that would never work in large quantities but guild mechanics aren't used in large quantities.

Seems like a poor mechanic for a set in which one of the biggest draws is awesome nonbasics.

I guess it is.

[up][up][up]Nope, pretty sure that can't be. In the past couple of days, Maro has said on tumblr multiple times that Wizards still couldn't decide how to bring Bushido back outside of a Kamigawa-themed setting.

[up]Well, it's the mechanic that's the most entwined with the flavor of the block, which also makes it the hardest to transplant somewhere else.

[up]The mechanic (+X/+X when blocked/blocking) is perfectly flavourless, it's the name that's the problem. I suppose they could tweak it a bit and call it Super Rampage or something.

Why can't they just stick Fights into it and rename it? That's what happened to Wither -> Infect.

[up] That actually sounds like a very good justification to revisit Bushido and turn it non-Expansion-specific.
