Hey, folks. I saw the announcement and noticed that my troper page was included among the pages that used a hottip. Unfortunately, I had a hard time trying to find the syntax for the new note/labelnote thing. (Admittedly part of this is just me being a spaz and somehow completely overlooking the section in Text-Formatting Rules.)

For the benefit of other people, could the announcement include a link to either Text-Formatting Rules or the first post of this thread, so they know what to do and how to do it? Thanks.

Notes and Labelnotes gives the instructions on how to make that change. I'll try to put that link in the announcement, but it may push it over the character limit.

EDIT: I had to run both links through a url compressor but I was able to get them in the announcement.

A rundown:

• Edit your troper page to replace [[hottip:*:TEXTBEHINDHOTTIP]] with [[note]]TEXTBEHINDHOTTIP[[/note]]
• If you wish something else than "note", use [[labelnote:TEXTYOUWISHTOUSEINSTEAD]]TEXTBEHINDHOTTIP[[/labelnote]]
• Then remove your troper page from Hottip Cleanup July 2013 Tropers.

Willbyr, I note that your headline does not specify to remove troper pages from the sandbox once they are clean. I've written a rundown in this post and tinyurled it: http://tiny.cc/db900w. You should probably replace the administrivia tinyurl with this one.

Character limit, I had to sacrifice somewhere. I hope that people will actually pay attention to the notice at the top of the page, but I'll swap your link in shortly.

It may be simpler to allow editing on troper pages long enough to clear the hottips.

If we can edit the hottips in other people's pages, I'll lend a hand.

Are we collecting a list of false positives? I glanced at the bottom and found nothing in the current page. It looks like it detected a hottip in the history that was removed last July.

Got here from the hottip news thingy. So tell me if I got this right:

1. The hottip markup is being replaced by the note/labelnote markup.
2. If I replace hottips with note/labelnote markup on my own troper page, I should remove it from that list.
3. If I don't do the above, someone else is likely to do it.

I've now replaced the one hottip on my troper page with a labelnote, and removed my name from that Sandbox cleanup list page. Did I do it right?

I've been deleting false positives along with the pages that I actually clean. I'm not certain why they're being detected unless it's got something to do with the parameters of the list generator.

Correct all around.

The Trivia page is done and cutlisted.

I could help with the Mega Man pages.

Go for it. Make sure you take any pages you clean out of their respective lists.

The Roleplay and Sandbox pages have been completed in that list.

I am taking A through C now there, using notes or labelnotes depending upon what the hottip shows.

Did that, except Buttercup Is Tiny as I am not clear what to replace it with, and Coolman 229 as there are too many.

Eddie turned off that ability after a series of malicious vandalisms a couple months back involving troper pages, including the staff's pages.

Pantheon/Roleplay/Sandbox is done and cutlisted.

Did also K-L, except for Kraken, Loid, Luthen due to too many/markup salad issues.

Oh Kraken? He hangs around IJBM's IRC channel, #ijbm on Espernet. I've left him a PM there; hopefully he'll get around to it.

Gonna continue after Criminal Minds is over. In the meantime, we'll need a way to deal with markup salad.

OK, I've continued with M, except for Muramasan 13 - I have no idea where the hottip ends in that markup salad.
