Exactly. I imagine that once the current overall sandbox is cleaned out, Eddie will need to generate a new list, because I can just about guarantee people are putting hottips on pages while we're working.

On that note - the Web Media list only has T-titled webcomics left.

Does anyone mind if I go cutlisting the Hottip Cleanup pages? They are the old obsolete hottip list.

I don't have a problem with it. They're dated at best and completely inaccurate almost assuredly.

I finished A-C in the past week, and I should finish with the V-Z list in the next couple of days.

I changed the hottip in the new article to a literal string. Doesn't make an actual hottip now.

What is done with Hottip Cleanup July 2013 Tropers? Do we just have a moderator go through each page?

It may be best to put up a headline saying that troper pages are going to be cleaned...I can't devote a certain day to do it but I can spread it out over, say, the next week.

On the headline, maybe. I wonder if we ought to reserve it for the "hottips are gone" announcement.

There's some false positives on there. It lists my troper page on there, but I don't have a hottip on my page (and I just double checked that I wasn't forgetting something—there's none on the page, and haven't been any since July 2012 according to the history).

Do you think there can be some sort of announcement to this effect on the forum as well - I see hottips used all the time on the social side of the forum, and I'd rather give people a chance to voluntarily replace them with notes rather than have a moderator go in and replace them unilaterally without notice.

I think a lot of tropers, myself included if I had hottips on my page, would consider it an incredibly gross affront to have a staff member go in and change their page without their consent.

Bonus is we get a lot more exposure of this project.

I am sure we'll have a headline whe hottips are disabled. Iunno if pre-existing hottips will disappear, though.

On the troper page thing: While opinions will vary on having moderator edits, we'll definitively need some for the pages whose tropers aren't here, for sure.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'd like to have a forum-wide announcement here in the next couple of days that hottips are rapidly reaching the end of their life on this site, to read the Notes and Labelnotes page, and to request that they remove any hottips on their own page before they reach their (rapidly approaching) expiration date or have them removed by a mod.

That's the sort of thing I think would be a lot more amenable to the populace here.

Believe me, I'm not especially keen on making arbitrary changes to someone's page without their consent, unless it's moving their page from Main/ to Tropers/ which is another admin-mandated cleanup. However, the Tropers/ namespace has to fall into the cleanup, and I'm not about to PM every person whose handle is in that sandbox...it's best to give the heads-up to the entire wiki and if anyone gripes after the fact, point out that they had advance notice. I had thought that we could give through the end of the month as a "hey, this is gonna happen, so if you want to take care of this on your own so the staff doesn't have to do it, go for it." and start the cleanup in August.

I think we're saying the exact same thing as each other, in different words. That's exactly the sort of procedure I am wanting - post a site-wide announcement, post one in the forums, and give them a week to voluntarily remove the hottips off the page before they are removed by a mod.

And to an earlier point - I've come across a lot of false positives myself...Eddie may have to tweak his algorithm slightly when it's time for the next search.

Just noticed y'all have a project thread for this. I've been cleaning up hottips where I find them on my own, so I figured I'd throw my hat into the ring and help y'all out if there's any areas in particular that need attention.

The Comics page is done and cutlisted.

W through Z is done, except for What Page Types Mean, which can't be changed until notes start working on preview pages (since that page gets copy/pasted when you are changing page types).

EDIT: I moved the link to the main sandbox list and cutlisted the V to Z page since it's now empty.
