PROJECT COMPLETE
Therefore, I am creating this thread to clean up hottip markup in the wiki, and do one of the following:
- Remove the hottip and weave the explanation into the description.
- Replace the hottip with either the note or labelnote markup, as appropriate.
Syntax for a note markup is (for those who are unaware):
[[note]]-text to be revealed-[[/note]], which yields: note
Syntax for a labelnote is: [[labelnote:-text to be displayed-]]-text to be revealed-[[/labelnote]], which yields:
-text to be displayed-

The parser code was changed, and it makes hottip coding not work right. The note/labelnote coding is the fix.
You can use the labelnote markup to change the "note" text. Otherwise, I guess it's a matter of rewriting things with the following in mind:
A. Include the information without the sea of notes.
B. Do we need all of that the information in the first place?
In your example, would we really need more information than just "eleven talk shows", etc? Couldn't we link to her IMDB page? We can make mention of the programs that have a page here.
If you wanted to retain all of that, how about a folder?

"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984I do not have a problem at all with thenote text. Plus, I think hottips/notes are often overused.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThe only reason is if there is too much labelnote, than there will be issues like this:
Snippets of classical music by Isaac Albéniz works , Johann Sebastian Bachworks , Ludwig Van Beethovenworks , Hector Berliozworks , Léon Boëllmann , Alexander Borodin works , Anton Bruckner works , Claude Debussy:works , Edward Elgarworks , César Franckworks , Edvard Griegworks , Albert W. Ketelbey works , Lev Knipperworks , Zoltán Kodályworks , Franz Lisztworks , Felix Mendelssohnworks , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozartworks , Modest Mussorgsky , Sergey Prokofievworks , Sergei Rachmaninoffworks , Maurice Ravelworks , Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov , Gioachino Rossiniworks , Camille Saint-Saëns , Franz Schubertworks , Jean Sibeliusworks , Richard Straussworks , Igor Stravinskyworks and Richard Wagnerworks are used either as background music or certain themes throughout the series’ run.
Now here’s what it looks like with hottip:
Snippets of classical music by Isaac Albéniz, Johann Sebastian Bachworks , Ludwig Van Beethovenworks , Hector Berliozworks , Léon Boëllmann, Alexander Borodin, Anton Bruckner, Claude Debussy:[[labelnote:works]]Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune]], Paul Dukas, Edward Elgarworks , César Franck, Edvard Grieg, Albert W. Ketelbey, Lev Knipper, Zoltán Kodály, Franz Lisztworks , Felix Mendelssohnworks , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozartworks , Modest Mussorgsky, Sergey Prokofiev, Sergei Rachmaninoffworks , Maurice Ravelworks , Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Gioachino Rossiniworks , Camille Saint-Saëns, Franz Schubertworks , Jean Sibelius, Richard Strauss, Igor Stravinskyworks and Richard Wagnerworks are used either as background music or certain themes throughout the series’ run.
Also, where do I go to ask about cancelling redirects?
Hmm, the hottip looks fine to me.

I think you could also just include all of that inside of a single note.
- Context goes here, so many examples:
- Other tropes or works, the page continues here.

"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984That still doesn't explain why all the hottips are being removed. Like I said before, it looks fine to me.
Because ]] tags inside a hottip can interfere with its function: * leads to Pot Hole.]]
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanNot to accumulate anything but wouldn't it just be easier not to use a link in a hottip? That's what I did.
I'm guessing I'm somewhat confused about why we can't use hottips considering the example I provided looks fine to me.

Or one could just not use hottips/notes like that.
I removed the hottips from VideoGame.Pokemon X And Y and YMMV.Pokemon X And Y
Any news about a new list?
Eddie didn't say; I'll ask.
Done, except for the archives and administrivia pages.
Like I suggested before, wouldn't it be easier not to use a link in a hottip? It just seems like a waste getting rid of something that seems to work just fine.
It. Doesn't. Work. Properly. Anymore.
It obviously doesn't work "just fine" if its basic functionality is broken like that.
I've tried it several more times and STILL don't know what you're talking about but whatever.

As for the formatting issues, the formatting for hottips has already changed a couple of times anyway (between underlined-not underlined, superscript-regular text).
Ghost, the ability to include potholes in a note/hottip is a basic part of their functionality. There are cases where it's necessary to convey the information trying to be conveyed properly. And even if that weren't necessary, the fact that pothole markup can break a hottip means that the hottip markup is broken: a working markup would not be broken by a basic wiki function.
And if that's not enough for you, then there's also the fact that Eddie (the guy who codes and runs the site) has declared the hottip markup obsolete, to be replaced by the note markup.
The hottip markup is going away. End of story. The decision has already been made; the change is not up for debate.

Hmm ... on an unrelated note, will we need another cleanout or is it time to shut down the markup?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanThat's entirely up to Eddie...I have to assume that removing them is the eventual plan based on his comments at the start of the thread, it's just a question of when he decides to get around to it and how much time it would take coding-wise.

So if/when it's finally removed completely, what happens to forum hottips? I know in some threads they get used a lot for various reasons, and just nuking hottips will break the relevant posts.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpI suspect that like strike or colour tags, they'll keep working until the post is edited.

Why are all these hottips being removed? without them, the paragraphs just look plain stupid! Example: Excluding from appearing as a host, co-host and judge, Nancy O’Dell appeared as herself before in eleven talk showsnote , two news shows note , three reality showsnote , one video shortnote , and thirteen television seriesnote . List of her appearances as a host is here , appearing as a co-host is here and as a judge right here . The way the labelnoted 'here' is up in the text just doesn't seem right . . . I can't find the words to explain it.
