It's officially a week until release and Adult Swim has posted another clip, this time featuring Rockzo!
Also, the blu-ray I pre-ordered of the movie shipped today!
Reindeer in the direction of reindeerSo I've heard...some people have received their copies already. I'm going to have mine early too, but I'm going to trudge carefully until then, and even after that, only discuss it with other folks who've seen it already.
I've heard it doesn't disappoint, so I really don't want it ruined for me.
Once I watch the movie, I'll give my commentary here on the official release date.

Thanks for the warning. I'm going to avoid as much as I can until the release date. Which fortunately shouldn't be too hard, since I don't really talk about the show anywhere else but here.
That was... wonderful. It was everything I'd wanted and more (and it even lined up with Galaktikon really well!).
The visuals, the music (Dethklok somehow gets their most ridiculous stage ever for the Song of Salvation), the emotional weight, the cameos (FAT KID LIVES!), that beautiful Offdensen vs. Orlaag duel... and of course, quite possibly the grisliest Metalocalypse death ever... which goes to none other than Stampingston, who swells up like a tumor and pops like a zit when overwhelmed by Salacia's power, which he's actually overjoyed by as he's now fully drank the kool-aid.
When the recent trend of giving belated finales to long-canceled works first started up several years ago, Metalocalypse was the one I hoped would get one more than anything. It was announced in relatively short order, but then we heard nothing for years. Many other finales I wanted came and went between then and now, and it seems only fitting that the one I wanted most should be the last. Thank you Brendon Small, Tommy Bleach, and everyone else involved. It's been *guitar riff*in' brutal.
There's nothing that needs mending; just follow my words, they will lead you to the ending.

So, I have a lot of thoughts. I'll try my best to write them all down in a coherent way.
The animation was absolutely incredible, I loved every minute of it.
Traitor Murderface was perhaps what I was most excited about regarding this movie, and I really enjoyed him, but I felt that the way Murderface is reassured could've been much better. "You suck", really? They could've worded it better and said that they need his negativity and love him because he's their brother. He is my favorite character and I always hated that whenever he's thrown a bone, they have to make it "funny" somehow. But otherwise, I will say the exorcism scene had me crying, haha.
The way they handled Abigail is probably the best way they could have. Her arc has always been a bit flawed, but the way they sent her off here was just fine, and does a lot for Nathan's character development.
I really love Dick Knubbler's arc, thinking about him from the start compared to him in this film. It's wonderful when you think about it. An ex-con who ends up going down in a respectable way in the end. And I remember seeing a lot of people theorizing Edgar would turn on Dethklok, but I trusted him and he never did.
Seeing the cameos of Fatty Ding Dongs, Runke Snogge, and Jean-Pierre had me giddy, and the final battle was so badass.
I was so emotional throughout the entire thing, and you can tell everyone poured soul into this movie. I am so glad we got it.
Reindeer in the direction of reindeerThere was a ton of subtle stuff going on with both Knubbler and Jomfru. Knubbler was originally a vain, selfish hedonist even in comparison to Dethklok themselves who was planted in the band to disrupt them by the Tribunal in exchange for a pardon. By the end, he's an honest holy man who brings Dethklok back together at their lowest point. Jomfru meanwhile has come full circle, not only literally dying for Dethklok, but creating the opening needed to galvanize the fans, just as he once did with his website.

I didn't so much as crack a smile or even dig *any* of the new music.
It just left me feeling nothing.
In my opinion, where as the Venture Bros last month was basically a half-season squeezed into feature-length that just delivered more VB without too much concern about wrapping anything up, Army of the Doomstar is the exact opposite and exists to only bring closure to the story.
Which is fine, but I never really cared about the grand narrative or even took it seriously. It was a joke that this dysfunctional band, completely out of touch from society by their celebrity status, would be pivotal in a world ending prophecy and the focus of a conspiracy between organized religion, world banking and the military industrial complex. But at some point the creators forgot that it was supposed to be a joke.
I feel Army of the Doomstar doesn't really carry the spirit of the show it concludes, and this disappoints me, but I'm happy if other people are satisfied. I do recognize it ticks all the boxes for wrapping things up successfully, and that's better than nothing.
Some fans just don't care about the lore, and that's fine enough. But it was known from the start that this movie was going to be mostly humorless and a conclusion to the story of the prophecy and the Metalocalypse itself. (In fact, the lack of humor was what got the final season rejected in the first place.)
I don't agree with the statement that the plot was always supposed to be a joke. There are plot heavy episodes starting in the very first season. And even though there is humor accompanying it, almost every episode has character building in some way.
You know how some movies of franchises are considered for the die hard fans only? That's how Army of the Doomstar probably is. It's for those who are really invested in the lore, so it makes sense that those who wanted the filler episode humor are disappointed. I'm in multiple communities dedicated to the series, and everyone who was invested in the lore absolutely loved it, but you're not the only on who wasn't a fan of it due to not being too interested in the lore.
Reindeer in the direction of reindeerIt still doesn't look like the finale is on streaming yet. I was hoping they'd have added it by Halloween. They added the Venture Bros finale already.
This means I can't still actually read posts in this thread, since I'm doing my damnedest to avoid spoilers.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI finally decided to watch it, and rented it on Prime, since it's still not available for streaming anywhere.
I really liked it. Full of great character (even the supporting characters got to do a lot, and there were tons of references to the lyrics of Doomstar Requiem), and plot. I found the actual music in it to be lacking, but it was fine, since I was just thinking of and mentally replaying the vinyl order of Galaktikon 2 (G-2), anyway. Maybe one of the songs on it (Become the Storm might be both the wrong and right song?) was the SOS equivalent, if Deathalbum IV didn't happen? I still need to listen to that album. As for what did or didn't line up with G-2, they didn't explain the Half Man's origin or anything, but I guess he and the Deth Lights are displaced from the story of Galaktikon, and mortals aren't meant to know their full story. My interpretation of G-2 also had Nathan dying, what with the final track being without lyrics, and given the tone of the story, but then again, my version of that story didn't actually include the whale(s). Also, since the comparison was brought up, I found this finale to be better executed and less rushed than Venture Bros got, but that was apparent from the start: when the two shows were originally canned, or at least as of the release of G-2, it was clear that Venture Bros was planning a story for a final season, while Metalocalypse was planning a story for a final special akin to Doomstar Requiem.
...Did you not understand the name of the show? Like others have said, it's pretty damn clear that this was the direction the series was going from the start.
Oh, I didn't like the amnesia for the other 4 members, though. And I like that Skwisgaar waking up gave him his role in this story. Everyone but Toki (who had his spotlight in the last one) had a major role in this, and while Skwisgaar had certain moments, his story was completed by seeing the two specials as halves of a whole.
And I like that they came to terms with, and don't hate, Magnus. He was a part of the story, not the hero or the villain, but a necessary part.
Also, "Mother. Fucker. Motherfucker."
I miss the sound effect (pinch harmonics?) for censorship, though.

The sad, REAL American dichotomy

Where will the movie be released, again? I still need to find the right streaming service for it and the Venture Bros movie.
