[Passage ~ Sand Chamber —> Passage ~ Entrance]

"Oh. I... I..." Joseph hadn't thought of that. He did not immediately become gloomy again, but the idea hit him hard in a way that he did not yet fully understand, or even feel. He remained silent for a moment after that, then said, "Good point. I... I hope that's not the case, but I suppose... we won't really know until we get out of here. " he nodded slowly with a very worried look in his eyes. "Alright... okay... let's get a move on."

He pressed onward with the rest of the group, and soon they passed through the very first steel door. The opening in the bookshelf would not be far ahead, Joe just hoped that it wasn't for nothing. What was the point of going home if by the time he got there, everyone and everything he knew was gone? His isolation could be hard to cope with, but at least he had his family. What if years had passed, and they had moved? What would they think? Wandered off on a whim, last seen... when was it, August? He couldn't remember the day. Last seen, August 1992. Missing. Presumed dead. What if his family was implicated? Jesus, what then? What could he do?

[Chapel]

Ozzy gave Prisha a funny look. "Prisha, those torches aren't purple anymore. They changed to red just a moment ago, don't you-?" The look on Prisha's face gave him his answer. "You don't? Really? Bizarre-" Ozzy cut himself off. Something started to form in his head; an idea. Some sort of solution, or explanation. His eyes flicked around the room, looking at the books, the decorations, screwing up at the brightness from the torches. Something was coming together, something made sense.

He watched as Green walked into the chamber, seemingly following its own path of logic. As it neared the far wall, the same place that Prisha had insisted that a door stood, it all clicked together. The door. The lights. Illusion. It was all part of the cultist's leftover magic tricks. The door... the cultists wanted it hidden. No one but Prisha could see it. Why? Perhaps it was his affiliation with magic? But then- the lights. Why couldn't he see the lights? Was it another trick? Something that wasn't really there?

Suddenly, it all seemed very confusing again.

Whatever, I guess I can go through with it a little.

Chamber

While Prisha picked up the book, Guide to the Chamber, to read it, human skeletal figures are walking out of all the walls of the chamber.

"What is this freaky place up to now?" Ian yelled as he pulled out his Relic sword, unsheathed it and waves it around. But seems to go right through the skeletons.

"Can you keep it down over there?" Prisha called out, still busy reading. "What, is it flying cobras now?"

For a brief moment, Ozzy was troubled by the disquieting emergence of the skeletons, reaching for his knife with caution. But he halted himself, noticing Ian swing at them with his large sword to no avail. His blade swept through them as though they were mere phantoms; as though they weren't really there at all. Ozzy frowned and squinted at them. The illusion was truly immaculate. Without his new suspicions and the sight of Ian waving his blade around like a nincompoop and hitting nothing, he probably would have believed that they were real.

"Not quite, no. Close." He said to Prisha, a musing subduedness in his tone. "The skeletal remains of humans have begun to amble out of the walls. But they're not really there, are they?"

Chamber

"Not according to this book," Prisha finished reading. "It says to beware that excessive magic rituals may release mana dust into the air. These dust are a little like left overs from the ritual and when too much is contained in an enclosed space, it can distort the perception of anyone not proficient in magic. These mana dust spread and become more dangerous over time."

"Urrgghh, why won't my sword work?" Ian kept swinging at the intangible skeletons.

"There's supposed to be some anti mana dust vials where the other chemical vials are," Prisha called out, ignoring Ian. "It says we release it into the atmosphere to clean the area."

The armor turned its head around, back, forth. "I...can't see them." A sigh. "Which is probably for the best, if I tried to laser one I might damage the walls and bring down the roof." A noise that might have been a sigh before the the voice distortion got a hold of it. "Maybe the air filters kicked in."

[Chapel —> Chamber]

"So, that means these weren't conjured up on purpose." Remarked Ozzy, walking back into the chamber and approaching one of the skeletal figures with interest. "That would be a relief, but it confirms that someone else has indeed been here before us, and if I'm not mistaken, recently. Working some large ritual. The same kind I suppose, that could snatch a large amount of people from across several realities and bring them all here? But why go to all that effort?"

Ozzy furrowed his brow. There was more to all this, he was sure; every bit of mystery that was solved birthed two more mysteries, but there had to be an end. Even the largest and most complex knots had ends. He moved closer to the skeleton nearest to him and stuck his hand out, reaching into the phantasm's ribcage. His hand passed through of course, just like Ian's blade. However as it did so, he felt a strange vibration, passing through his glove and emanating from what seemed to be the air itself. Fascinating...

"They're most certainly still here." He said to Green. "Strange that you can't see them... but, maybe it's because you're..." Ozzy struggled to find words to describe Green's mechanical nature without sounding rude. "Perhaps you have an immunity that those of us who are more organic don't share. Can you see the glaring red light from the torches?"

Hallway -> Macabre Classroom -> Nice Hallway

This building reeked of decay even more so than the building she first arrived in, but nonetheless Vivian could see signs that people were here at some point. No one had bothered leaving behind any possessions, but there were items that looked like they had been handled recently. For example, there was a door hanging open, with a dust mark on the floor where it originally was.

Vivian smirked before slipping through the door, only to be confronted with the group of skeletons sitting at desks. She paused, not so much from fright as it was from curiosity. This looked like something she'd do, but she wasn't the sort of person who "worked her magic" on large groups of people at once. She was more the sort to torment one person before killing him and taking his skull as a grim trophy. She had to say, she was impressed with whoever it was that made this nice collection.

Well, at least I know where that smell was coming from, she thought.

She was half-tempted to steal some of the skulls for her own collection, but ultimately decided against it. The best trophies were taken from people she personally dealt with. The skulls here just wouldn't give her the same sense of satisfaction. Instead, she turned her attention to the door at the back of the classroom, which apparently was really bright on the other side.

Wait a minute...light?

Okay, this was going to be a bit complicated. The minute she stepped beyond that door, she would be out of her element and ultimately powerless. Okay, she could draw upon the darkness in this room, but she had to be close to it. Once she was far enough away, she wasn't going to get any use out of it. Her options were to either not go that way, or go that way and get through it as quickly as possible so that she had access to her abilities.

She grimaced. Given that the door was open and had the same dust marks as the other door, any other people in this building were probably somewhere beyond it. She had to choose between having no playthings or not having access to her powers. Well, provided she got through this quickly, she hopefully wouldn't be powerless for long. She decided that the risk would be well worth taking.

With a deep breath, she ran through the door and down the hall, paying no heed to the remains of some screen.

Poof, Rina replaced Ian once again. Prisha had to inform her of what's going on. "... and that's why everyone's acting almost as weird as us. The book says there's an anti mana dust vial we can release into the atmosphere to clean it."

"You mean like this?" Rina grabbed the vial and smash it on the wall to release the substance and neutralize the mana dust.

"If I knew...I doubt it'll be as easy as backing down the stairs." She sighed and ran her hands over her face. "I don't know. Maybe we should start with that? If it doesn't work, then we can start panicking."

A pause. "And there's someone following us up the stairs."

[Chamber]

"I'd demonstrate that's probably not the issue, but popping the helmet seals will cause more trouble than that, and you don't really want me shooting up the room. I can see the torches as red, yes. There's a minimum level of air contamination before the filters kick in, unless it's a recognizable toxin."

The armor waved its arms frustratedly and slapped the door, or where the door should have been. This time the sound was the hollow boom of metal on metal. "Apparently there are limits to how well their tricks work."

The skeleton apparition in front of Ozzy dissolved and faded away. He stared at his still-extended hand for a moment, then withdrew it and walked over to where Green was pounding on what Ozzy could now see was a large steel door, just as Prisha had described. He stood clear of Green's flailing arm, and waited quietly for a moment before speaking.

"So here it is at last. Do you suppose it was just the magic dust messing with our heads? Or perhaps the cult cast a spell on it purposefully, so that even if some mere mundane man were to stumble into this chamber, they would not be able to find it?" He shifted his eyes to the armor, "I personally like the second idea better. It lends to the hope of discovering something truly important, don't you think?"

He ran his eyes up and down the outer frame of the door and sighed. "So, I suppose we should get this steel beast open, and find out for ourselves just what lies behind door number three."

"Well, if not there's still that last wooden at the front wall I forgot to mention," Prisha said honestly. Looks like there could yet be more to explore.

"Well, I just finished reading the spell books. So we can get a move on," Prisha answered.

"So what are we waiting for?" Rina turned to Ozzy and Green.

Yes as I said, according to my post before there's literally another door. So I decided to add it and have plans for it too.

I finally arrived in MN (we drove), so I have some time to make some posts.

[Sand Passage]

Oh no...

The moment Rachel mentioned that, Nathan had a horrible thought. No doubt his parents reported him and Adam missing at this point. They were suppose to be home hours ago. Maybe they were still sitting on couch, unsure if they were ever going to come home-or if they were even still alive. And if they were truly gone for several years...the thought of all this was too much for him.

He looked at Adam, who seemed to be thinking the same thing.

"Right. We need to hurry back." Nathan finally said, following the others to the entrance.

[Sand passage]

The possibility of time passing oddly proved that Loyce's time travel attempts made sense. 'Messing with the past'? It wasn't messing with the past if he was just trying to fix what had been caused by dimensional travel. It was also possible that the same thing that created the strange passage of time was also what would help him figure out how to make the thing... He should probably find out if it was actually happening, and how.

This is a signature. It is not interesting. Please continue whatever you were doing, it is surely more fascinating.

"Wait, I got an idea," Now that Prisha has thought about it. He feels completely energized again. He wasn't sure why but something in these chambers are helping him recover at a lot faster rate than usual. Perhaps it's the torches or something else entirely. Did the other magical practitioners here also find it useful too? "Rina, if Ian appears again, we want him to lead."

He decides to cast the spell on Rina, the same spell that had separated him from the others before. Hoping he doesn't pass out again and it worked. Ian appeared near Rina. But even though the plan would have worked better with him coming back, Prisha still did hope it was Corey.

He did feel tired. But this time no where near as much as before. He seemed to be getting used to casting that spell already. He can still even stand. Just not enough energy for another supernatural phenomena.

"Okay at least that one wasn't too bad," Ian looked around seeing he's at least still in the chamber. But with Rina there.

"Hey Ian, quite a bit has happened," Rina explained to him. "Currently we plan on exploring that door over there. But still have to decide on a leader."

"You even need to think about that?" Ian said confidently and went first opening the door. "Geez."

Passage -> Library

Rachel remained silent as the group continued on through the remainder of the passage. Given that it had only been a few minutes since the time flow conversation, her views on getting out of here remained more or less the same. However, there was another feeling hanging in the back of her mind - an odd sense of despair. If time did flow differently here, was there any point to attempting to go back? If they managed to open a portal of some sort and the place on the other side was unrecognizable to her, then what? Since she wasn't going to be recognizable there, she might as well stay here. After all, this group was familiar with her, right? They could eke out a living of some sort in this strange world....

She shook her head. No, that was no reason to give up. This place was the home of a cult once, and for all she knew it still could be. The Hounds could very well be on their way, attracted by the smell of fresh meat on the campus just like their old feeding frenzies of yore. She'd prefer to eke out a living in a future version of her world then wait around here. Even if it didn't accomplish anything, it would still be giving the middle finger to the Cult and whatever plans they had.

Her mind returned to the situation at hand when she spotted the light that marked the entrance to the passage and the door to the library. She smiled - finally, this little excursion was over at last. She was even still sane, in direct defiance of her statement back where she and Joseph had first met Corey. Without hesitation, she walked out of the passage and back into the library...and then had to stop and blink a lot to get her eyes to adjust to the library's brightness compared to the passage. She wasn't quite sure if the P-virus had messed with her night vision at all - at the least, she didn't think she could see anything better down in the passage than anyone else could.

When her eyes had adjusted, she looked around, taking in the place and reminding herself where everything was. Nothing much had changed since they had first entered the passage, although it was abnormally quiet apart from the rain hammering on the roof. Apparently, the storm outside had intensified instead of going away.

"Well guys, this place is still clear. You want to try looking around in here again, or shall we look somewhere else for answers?" she asked the rest of the group.

[Passage ~ Entrance —> Library]

As the entrance to the passage came into view, Joseph used the opportunity to push his worrisome thoughts of home out of his head and focus on something altogether less troubling. They were almost out of the darkness; out of the gloomy cage of the passage. He could see what he hoped was natural light pouring through the opening. He dearly wanted to see even just a glimmer of sunlight. They could not have spent more than a few hours down in the passage, but to Joe it had felt like almost an entire day.

With Rachel in the lead, and himself close behind, Joseph stepped through the gateway back into the library. He winced at the sudden change of light and covered his eyes with the palms of his hands. It felt noticeably warmer in the library than it had been in the passage, even as the rain continued outside. He wished he had fallen asleep in here rather than out in the cold chamber. It would have been much more comfortable. However, he was not tired enough anymore, and there were more important things to take care of, so, still rubbing his eyes with his palms, Joe started to wander around slightly.

"This place feels so much better than back in there. On a scale of 1 to better, it's much better." He paused, tried lowering his palms, and was greeted by shocking glare and bright spots burned into his vision. His palms did not stay down for very long. "Geez it's bright in here! What a drag... erm- how do things look?"

"Another door we've been missing? These magic tricks have really thrown me for a loop." Ozzy said, reaching under his hood and lightly massaging his forehead. "Well, one door at a time, we'll get to the other soon enough."

He turned around when he heard an unexpected new voice, but the person that he saw he did not immediately recognize. It took him a few moments of weary staring before he remembered her; the girl who had shown up after Prisha had started glowing a while back. He also noticed that Ian was nowhere to be found. Well, that's certainly for the best.

"Hello there... who are you?" He started to ask, then waved his hand quickly and said, "Never mind- we can have all the introductions we fancy later. Right now, this door takes priority."

However, before they could begin, Prisha appeared to have another task to take care of. Ozzy wasn't entirely sure what he was up to, until he started glowing in the same sort of way he had before and... Ozzy sighed, Ian returned.

Ozzy hadn't even the time to enjoy the chamber for three minutes without his pompousness.

Chamber -> Passage

"Oh I'm Rina," She introduced herself. But before following Ian she asked Prisha. "So you found what you were looking for in those spell books?"

"Yes, the two spells we should worry most about while we're here are Mind Ensnare and Black Out," Prisha explained. He also read the practice instructions but aren't sure he would have enough energy to perform them later. "The former allows the caster to take control of someone's mind by grabbing their head, controlling their every behavior. Black Out, negates all light of the surrounding area. The range factor works in a similar way to Ad Ventus. Also at standard level it works for a whole ten seconds."

"I also found a spell most of the people here might be looking for to transport themselves out," Prisha concludes his exposition. "It's also a ritual spell however and will take a lot of preparation."

"Right now let's see what's behind that door," Rina and the others followed Ian. The place looked dark. There was another lantern on the wall here, which Ian picked up to light the area. "Wow these cultists certainly know where to leave lanterns."

It was a cave like chamber just like the passage. But only the half they're standing on is solid ground. The other half was a dark pit with a mechanical platform over it. The platform has a lever and four bars connected to some hidden slots in the chamber's ceiling. The slots lead across a gap in the chamber walls where the pit continues.

"Uhh... hehehe," Rina chuckled nervously at Green's comment. "I think I got used to all of that with these guys a long time ago."

Then she looked around a little more, trying to peek past the gap in the walls where the pit continued. "Prisha? Either you or Corey wrote there's a pit near the beginning of the passage right? So this path should theoretically connect with the entrance."

"Congrats on taking the last few pages of the journal and convert it to audio," Prisha snarked. "However there are so many things the cult may also do with a pit. Our perspective from this end may give us a better idea."

Rina continued and got up on the platform to look at the lever. "So I guess this is what gets the platform moving?"

Maria spun around and promptly stumbled, nearly tripping over her own feet thanks to Linna's unfamilar frame. "Identify yourself!" she snapped at the newcomer as she regained her balance, squinting into the darkness of the stairwell. Before she arrived at the University, she reflected, she'd thought she was prepared for any crazy situation, but she couldn't have been more wrong.

Why in the Engineers' names didn't I bring my gun? Maria demanded of herself for what felt like the hundredth time, then stopped herself.

....Wait a minute, I'm Linna now. I have Linna's gun!

Maria gingerly unholstered the unfamiliar weapon from her belt and held it ready as the newcomer emerged from the shadows. For a wide variety of reasons, she hoped she wouldn't have to use it...

[Chamber —> Passage ~ Platform Chamber]

"A pleasure." Ozzy gave a polite nod to Rina, then passed under the large steel door into a room that looked to him like another extension of the passage they had followed earlier, only, he soon realized, the floor ahead dropped off quite neatly into a gaping pit. Well, at least there was no sand.

As he continued to examine the room, he overheard Prisha talking to Rina about the spells he had found. The two spells he mentioned passed over with no more than a dark thought, but when Prisha spoke of a spell to get off of the univeristy, Ozzy made an extraordinarily rapid turn where he stood and stared directly at him.

"Wait a moment. Prisha, did I hear you correctly? You found a spell this capable of sending us back to the places we've come from? Well, that's what the folks we just sent upstairs are looking for; doesn't that take priority?"

The look in Ozzy's eyes as he spoke was intensely eager. Unless he could be assured that time on his earth would not continue without him, he was going to take any route available to get back.

Passage

"I seem to recall saying it's a ritual spell," Prisha answered. This was apparently his way of convincing people. Diplomacy has always been his greatest flaw and the one thing that sets him behind Lucas as the wisest of the Occult Society. "Even if we meet the set requirements, there is a long waiting period and the spell won't truly be ready for use until at least tomorrow. Weren't we also investigating to make sure we really aren't in any danger down here?"

"How about if while focusing on preparing for the spell, we get careless of the plans of whoever brought us here and don't even make it through this day, let alone to when the spell is ready?" Prisha finished his eerie exposition. But now looking at the platform and the structure of the steel door, it might be better to go investigate that other door first. But unfortunately he had no time to.

"Enough chitchat, let's get moving," Ian used his Charles Atlas Super Strength to pull both Ozzy and Green onto the platform, Rina still standing there, before pulling the lever. The platform then moved.

Prisha frowned then realized why he still needs to keep Ian in his sight and jumped onto the platform just in time.

"Ian I always knew you were a fool but- Uurrrrgghhh!" Prisha glared then turned away, his clenched fist trembling. He almost forgot how stupid Ian was, even by normal people standards. But he wasn't counting on it to amount to this either.

There was however something that bothered him more. The platform had already moved past the gap, too late to turn back.

Dammit! What was I thinking? Prisha knew he was meant to be concentrating on investigating the pit. But for the moment he just can't get past being in an even worse mood than usual. "How could I make such a foolish miscalculation?"

The cloaked boy had previously waited long enough at the pit passage for the surface group to exit to the library and now he had waited enough for the rest of the intruders to leave to the platform.

He then entered, this time holding another box of popcorn. Then closed the steel door to make certain that it's locked from the outside. It would be a while before those intruders would even be able to return to this chamber now, let alone even be aware of his plan.

The mystery boy now entered through the door none of the intruders had yet to explore and opened to reveal a clear room with a giant pentagram drawn on the floor... the ritual chamber...
