Lancer, storeroom in a certain Monastery

Lancer answered each of the questions with almost god-like patience.

"Yes, I am Vlad the Impaler. Yes, my surname is Dracula. No, I am not a vampire. ...And why should I sparkle?"

He asked the last question with genuine bafflement.

....Maybe he should answer the confused-looking vampire. Oh wait, he just said he wasn't a vampire. WHY IS THIS SO CONFUSING?!

He cleared his throat. This was so weird.

Nero — Breten Residence

"Oh? You have my drink, Praetor?" she moved up from the chair and made her way over and grabbed the glass. She then grabbed the bottle, set the glass down, poured her own cup and sipped it.

She clicked her tongue, closed her eyes and then immediately sat back down in the comfy chair. It was quite good, actually, the taste lingered in Saber's mouth and she hadn't tasted anything much like it before. Or well, she probably had, but it's been so long it's a memory that no longer serves purpose. "Thank you, Praetor!" she thanked her Master before taking yet another drink.

As the Disguised Rider wandered the Archwood city streets, he was busy making a mental map of the streets and taking note of some of the buildings to use as backup strongholds should his master's mansion ever come under siege. But aside from those two important things, the Asiatic servant was busy appreciating the architecture and the highly efficient overall planning (In Comparison to Dark age era cities) of the city itself, from the drainage holes that funnel rainwater and refuse into sewers underneath the roads to the dumpsters stashed inside the dark alleyways stuffed with waste.

Fascinating... Such marvelous, efficient yet simplistic feats of public engineering and sanitation...

Lancer nodded as if that explained everything and decided he would check that book out. He also politely ignored that the boy just implied that he was a vampire.

"...Anyway, you said something about the Holy Grail? As in, the cup the Lord used?"

He shook his head and focused back to the difficult task of explaining a Holy Grail War to complete outsider.

“That… is a hard question. It is, undoubtedly an object that is capable of performing miracles, such as my summoning, for example. It will also fulfill a wish, any wish, to the one who obtains it. However it is not in my knowledge if the Grail is truly the cup of our Lord or merely an artifact of immense power created by magic.”

Florina sighed. "You don't need to be formal in order to show respect. And honestly being so formal is more trouble than it is worth. Drop the formality and find some other way to show respect. same for the "Lord" and "dono" business." Rising from the sofa, she held out her hand for Tomoe. "get some rest. We are going to be busy later." she called over her shoulder as she made her way down the hall.

"Got it..." Felicia, by this point, was half asleep.

"...Hey, miss Arturia? Thanks," she mumbled, right before dropping off completely.


Breten Residence

Yuna smiled.

"Oh, good. Glad you like it," she replied, walking over to the music stand and screwing together a long, silver instrument. Within a few minutes a song could be heard from the other end of the room. Careful listening revealed a recording of the piano, accompanied by Yuna.

"It is nothing, Felicia" whispered Saber to the sleeping form of her Master, allowing a small smile to appear on her face.

Felicia was unlike any person she had fought under during her whole life. In some ways, this struggle might be harder than those she had faced before... But at least so far this wasn't all so bad.

....Well, this was getting stranger and stranger.

But before Tristan could speak, the door to the storeroom bursts open and the two men that Tristan overheard came running into it.

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!" screamed Father Alexander.

"Um...it's a long story..."

Then the Father noticed Lancer.

"IS THAT A SERVANT?!"

"....YOU KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON?!"


The Monastery, Father Alexander's office, one explanation and ten cups of coffee later

"...And that is what you've gotten yourself into. This is a grave situation. Heresy, even."

Tristan felt as if his head would explode. Vampires? Mages? Secret Church organizations? Executors? Holy Grail Wars? He was a heretic now?! Nothing made sense anymore!

"But...Well, this is a unique situation. We do not want anyone dangerous obtaining the Grail, and now that a servant of The Lord is a Master in the Holy Grail War...."

"...Y-you want me to participate?"

"And win. Also, since this technically heresy, you shall not gain any aid from the Church."

....This is insane.

Nero — Breten Residence

"Praetor", upon realizing what was going on, Nero stood up to listen in closer. Her Master was playing an instrument, a flute, while a recording of the piano played in unison. Yuna followed along with silver instrument in hand and played. Nero was astonished. She didn't expect her Master to partake in the musical arts. Nero nodded and then went back to her seat with drink in hand to enjoy the performance.

Yuna finished her song, carefully polished the flute and put it away. She smiled slightly at Saber.

"...I remembered you mentioned liking the fine arts," was all the explanation she gave, before blushing slightly and changing the subject.

"Uh, so, you can sleep in the guest room next to my room if you need to sleep. I have a sleeping bag, too, if you'd rather do that..." Her spiel was interrupted by a yawn.

Feel free to Hand Wave the rest of the going-to-bed process if you want to time skip, Ragna.

The night came and went. The Servants were summoned for the Grail War and some went to the Church while others went about their own business. There was a single fight, but nothing came of it. Now the moon dives over the horizon, and soon the sun rises to take its place.

END OF DAY 0 — BEGINNING


DAY 1 — SEEKING MALICE

The sun rose. It took its place in the sky, watching over the island of Archwood. People got up to go to work while others stayed in bed to catch up on some rest. It was a new day for the citizens while it was the first official day of the Holy Grail War for the Masters.


Jessica Harway — Harway Manor, Redrock Town — Around 8 AM

"Mmmm..." the young girl stretched her arms up and kicked herself out of bed. She breathed in and out, and she really needed to take a shower. Her hair was all messed up, it was hot in the room the night before. She was honestly nervous. Jessica didn't know what to feel after they got back, maybe it was just a passing spell?

"Oh, right." the green-eyed girl grabbed her clothes, moved into the bathroom and took a shower all in the span of seven or so minutes. Soon, she exitted the bathroom and put her wears on.

"Archer!" she yelled around for her Servant. She just got out of the bathroom and she didn't feel his presence anywhere. "Are you around?" she said, looking around and about for her white-haired Servant.

"Archer!" she tried a third time, still no response.

She moved into the kitchen afterward, looking for the troublesome man.


Bridget Brunhild — Brunhild Residence, Archwood City — Around 8 AM

She stirred in her sleep but eventually pulled herself up, still trapped in the darkness as she always had been. "Victor, are you around?" she said, hoping for her dog to respond but she received nothing. "Hm.." she moved a hand over and grabbed onto the dresser. Slowly but surely, she moved her feet onto the floor.

Trace it, see it...

She could see the entirety of the dresser in the confines of her own mind. As if it was second nature, she went from the dresser to the bottom drawer. She opened it up and grabbed the clothes she needed to take a shower.

"Lancelot... are you around?" she said, trying to feel at the air.

Cheap Hotel Room, Archwood City
As a new day dawned, the massive Servant was sat, empty bottle by his hand and body resting against the wall with one arm stretched out over his Master's bed. Maybe that explained why she was wrapped around it like it was some sort of giant pillow, even though it would never be that soft. "Oi, Master, wake up."


Brunhild Residence, Archwood City
"In spirit form, Master," the knight explained, "It taxes your body less if I refrain from assuming physical form when it is unnecessary."

The sound of breathing, though, indicated that the knight had returned to being a physical entity a second later, dropping quietly in front of the blind girl and stretching out a hand to rest on her face. His voice, currently free from distortions, asked whether he should be introduced to her parents.

"...You, seven heavens clad in three words of power, arrive from the ring of deterrence, O keeper of the balance ―――!" Morgan finished, awaiting the results of her summoning. Maybe she would be lucky and gain her sister... but if not, she would still summon an accomplished knight to make up for her own lack of physical prowess. It was for this that the tall female had left her Master unguarded and gone to collect things whilst they slept. Speaking of which... she would surely be up in a minute.

Faust's Workshop, the Clearing

Faust sat up, stretching her arms and shrugging off the blanket. Today... would be the first real day of the Holy Grail War, she supposed. That meant... there was going to be fighting. Maybe. And she might see more knights with Gretchen! And she could talk to her Master more, and summon more demons, and maybe she would get to try some of that ice cream stuff! That would be great...

She stood up, picking up Gretchen as she did, and looked around. She supposed it would be best to wait for her Master, no Matter how eager she was to start doing stuff. Still... there were some things she could do while waiting. Quickly, she began forming another summoner's circle...


Cheap Hotel Room, Archwood City

Chieko stirred in bed, weakly, before quickly sitting up. She'd slept. Had she overslept?! Damn it, she wasn't supposed to sleep! Quickly she leaped out of bed. Had her familiars returned? What was Assassin doing?

... Oh. He was right there. In her just-awakened flurry of panic, she had managed to completely miss his presence... Wait... had she been clinging to his arm?! Chieko shook her head, she had to stay calm. Her Servant... Heracles probably thought his Master needed sleep, right? From what she could remember that was the case... even though she was frustrated about having slept, she was not going to yell. She was going to stay quiet...

Perhaps Heracles had noticed her Familiars' return?

"Assassin, have you seen three swallows return here during the night?" she asked. Swallow familiars... she was never really sure why she had picked swallows.

The swallows hadn't seemed to have returned, however.


Winester Residence, Archwood City

Tomoe did not require sleep. Besides, she had a far more important duty to attend to. In spirit form, to reduce the strain on her Master, she had stayed on-guard the entire night, waiting outside her Master's home to keep an eye out for intruders. She would not fail in this endeavor, of that she was sure of. However, her Master seemed odd... requiring her not to speak respectfully of her?

Tomoe didn't understand it. The red-haired girl was her lord, respect was important to say the least.

Archer

The knight in red, clad in his shining white armor, stood at the ready to face his foe. It was a simple battle, one he'd fought many times before. So much so he'd long since forgotten when the motions became second nature. He'd conquered this enemy a thousand times. This would be no different. He picked up his weapon, feeling the familiar grip between his fingers.

"Composition, analyzed. Basic structure altered. Reinforcement complete."

The spatula in his right hand emanated power, breathing in the magic energy and changing shape, becoming harder, stronger, denser. The edges became sharp like a steel guillotine, leaving no doubt that with them, anything could be cleanly cut. Like gutting a fish. Yes, this was a suitable weapon for Archer. Blade in hand, he looked to his enemy. No words were said, no pleasantries exchanged. In a moment, it simply began. Like a flash of lightning passing through the sky.

The batter hit the frying pan face first, splashing onto the hardened black surface before sizzling like it had been placed on the surface of the sun. Normally, it would take a few minutes to finish preparing a pancake using this method. But this wasn't necessarily always the case. With a flick of his wrist, Archer turned up the temperature on the stovetop, pushing it far past its ordinary limits. With properly reinforced equipment, anything could be done. This farce would be over in seconds.

The pancake was finished, and in a flash, placed upon a plate. More batter followed, and it too was swiftly cooked, flipped, and prepared for consumption. And so it was after that, and after that. It only took thirty seconds. In that span of time, Archer had assembled not only a grand tower of pancakes drizzled in syrup and topped with butter, but an entire plateful of eggs, crowned with a cap of bacon. It was a meal fit for a king, or rather the king of gluttons.

Wiping sweat from his brow, he released the reinforcement on the spatula and stove, and they assumed their original forms. He pocketed the spatula in the hem of his apron, and quickly hefted the plates. That's when he turned around, and saw his Master.

"Oh? I didn't expect you to be up this early."

Tammy woke up first. Even though she spent last night augmenting the apartment's magical defenses, she wasn't really that tired.

He woke up on the sofa. Damn, he must have been really tired last night.

With a yawn, he went straight for the kitchen.

"I wonder if Rider is back?"

"I'm right here, Tamamo," Wes said, rubbing his eyes. He hadn't slept at all. Not a wink. Too worried about the Paul situation. Or was it Tamamo's racket that kept him up all night? Honestly, he was almost beginning to think he would've slept better if Tamamo had been with him.

He groaned to himself. Scratch that thought. Don't encourage her. She made him uncomfortable enough as it was. "So," he said with a yawn, "what did you add?"

Jessica Harway — Harway Manor, Redrock Town

"I usually get up early, Archer, and why are you wearing my apron?" the magus said the first thing that came to her mind. well, a lot of things were on her mind right now. One, where the hell did Archer learn how to cook like that? Two, why was he cooking her breakfast to begin with? Three, why did those pancakes smell so good? "Hmm..." out of nowhere, her appetite kicked in. She sniffed at the air and she couldn't resist it. "Archer, would you care to sit down and have breakfast with me?" she said as she licked her lips. Some outside force was pushing her to eat even if her appetite wasn't that bag.

Was this destiny? Apparently so. The girl took a seat at the table after she pulled the chair out. She scooched in and awaited her Servant to feed her. They had a maid, but due to the Grail War she hasn't been around.

She was used to fixing her own meals, doing house chores and generally doing everything around the house since her parents were around much. She got used to it.


Bridget — Brunhild Residence

"Oh... oh, right, I'm sorry Lancelot. I'll introduce you to my parents soon enough. I should go to the—" she hesitated for a moment. All remained silent as the young Arturia-look alike placed another hand on Lancelot's face. "I have to go to the bathroom.. I-I'll be a moment, Lancelot!"

She placed her hand along the wall. She remembered where the bathroom was because it was right next to her room. A few steps and she held onto a support bar that lead her the rest of the way in.

Slam.

The door shut, and all was silent once again.

"It was the only one available," Archer said plainly. "I would've liked my own, but yours had to do. Anyway, breakfast is served." He placed the feast in front of Jessica before undoing his apron and sitting down as well. A nice, quiet meal.

She was late. Damn school, why do you start so early?!

And so she ran, dodging people, jumping over obstacles and taking short cuts.

...But still, she was going to be late. Argh! She didn't have time for this!

Well, there was one way to get there on time. The abandoned construction site.

No time to think! Run!

She was in the construction site now, half built buildings all around her.

Hell, there was even a rusty bulldozer in here.

Jeanne — Archwood City — Around 8 AM

Even though she was of the Ruler class and a Servant, she still couldn't help but enjoy the wonders of the modern world. Movies, books, manga, anime, all that sort of stuff. She fondly enjoyed this magical girl stuff about love and justice. Maybe, in one world, she was a magical girl herself?

...

No, that's only nonsense. "Ah!" Jeanne found herself wandering the city early in the morning after she did some shopping with funds supplied by the Church. She bought some stuff to cook with, some canned goods and some new clothes in just her size. A deep sigh and she found herself sitting on a bench.

The morning air, the sun light, the chirping birds, it was all so perfect. So, the young Jeanne closed her eyes ever so slightly and drifted off into—

No. She couldn't sleep, wake up Jeanne. "Oh..." she mumbled. She really didn't get enough sleep the night before.


Jessica Harway — Harway Manor, Redrock Town

After Archer had taken a seat, Jessica had began to eat. One piece after another found itself in her mouth. One, two, one, two, in a weird syncronization pieces kept on crowding inside of her mouth. Jessica's stomach was large. She could eat and eat until the 2nd day of the Grail War.

Soon, she finished off two pancakes. She then stood up, walked on over, poured herself a glass of milk and took her seat again. A sip, more eating, another sip, and then she repeated four times over.

Two more pancakes gone.

Was this girl even human?

"Huff..." she wiped her mouth and set the napkin down. "This meal is amazing, Archer." Jessica smiled toward the Servant from across the table. Her eyes closed, her smile so sincere and caring. It was abnormal, considering her true nature as a hero. Jessica never showed this side to anyone, not even her parents. The only other person to see it was her sister Bridget.

There was a bright flash of light, one which lit up the abandoned construction zone, trying to compete with the rising sun as if it thought it could challenge the heavens with its radiance. The light shone brightly, and the light shone furiously, but the light also shown shortly, and like a candle flame racing towards wax, quickly flickered out. And in its place, stood a man. A tall man, one with ginger hair and fine clothes, and a book in his hand which was perched for his eyes and his eyes only. Clearing his throat, he began to read.

"To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow,
Creeps in this petty pace from day to day,
To the last syllable of recorded time;
And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,

The strange ginger shut the book, ending his recital. That's when he finally looked down, broken free of his own self-entanglement, and noticed the young lady strewn across the ground beneath him.

"... Oh, hello there. Who might you be?"

"Heh. Of course. I've had a long time to practice it. Believe it or not, cooking is a specialty of mine." Archer, in comparison to Jessica, had eaten far less, preferring to leave most of the meal to his Master. It was a familiar sight, one he thought he'd lost, and it comforted him to see it again. It was amazing how much she looked like her...

Wes yawned. "Sure, as long as it's nothing weird."

"You seem relaxed, Archer." she caught on to the white-haired man and his demeanor. She went back to eating, one bite after another and then she suddenly stopped. Her appetite died. She remember something important.

No, no, it's not possible.

She then went back to eating a second later.

Florina slid out of bed, making her way into the bathroom. Washing her face in the sink, she gave the bathroom a glance over as she muttered to herself. "She better not have gone too far." Satisfied she shut off the water as she maked her way to her room.

Digging around in her closet, she yanked her nightgown off with one hand pulling her dress once done. Rummaging through the closet she found her old school uniform. Tucking it under her arm,she made her way into the kitchen. Going into the pantry she quickly removed two pieces of bread and grape jelly.

A few minutes later she pulled the slices of bread from the toaster. After smearing some grape jelly onto both she made her way outside. Pausing to check the sky she located Tomoe. Tossing her the uniform she called out to her Servant. "Put those on for now. We'll get you some more suitable clothing after we visit the Overseer." At that she sat on the porch and began to eat her own slice of toast after setting one aside for Tomoe.

Lancer, The Monastery, Storeroom and Father Alexander's office

The two men that burst into the storeroom would never know how close they came to death. The only thing that stayed Lancers hand was the fact that his Master seemed to recognize them. Unperturbed by all the random shouting, Lancer decided to just passively observe the situation and silently followed his Master as he was dragged through the building and as the basics of Holy Grail War were explained to him.

"...And win. Also, since this technically heresy, you shall not gain any aid from the Church."

Only when all the explanations ended did he step forward.

"We should leave this place then. It seems that the War has already begun and our mere presence could make this monastery a target."

He said, both to his Master and Father Alexander.
