Shonen Jump ToC Rankings

I don't know, but I assume they're just cancel-proof by principle, being shorts and all. I don't know about Jimoto and David-kun though, I think that's the first time they launch two of those at once…

The former is already getting an anime, and Jump's apparently doing an online poll to ask readers if they'd like a David-kun anime too.

Oh yes, please. Manneken Pis jokes aside, I'm quite enjoying it.

Gag manga rankings don't count in part because editors always put a gag manga at the end of the magazine, so bottom rankings don't actually indicate unpopularity for them.

Oh shiz... Chainsaw Man. I'm hoping that it would become better at a later future but yeah... To do that, I think Denji not only needs a development but the story could do some polish because I truly like the manga but well see.

I dunno, I feel like me might be on the track to that - he just got totally curb-stomped by a demon after he did this whole "clash of dreams" speech, and had to be bailed out by reinforcements, so maybe he'll be getting some Character Development soon.

Two things about Saiyuki: Father of the Year! Also, this is a story about a disabled person told from the perspective of their caretaker, which is all kinds of fraught.

By the looks of things, ne0;Lation is screwed. I'm also worried about Chainsaw Man. The Last Saiyuki is off to a good start so far. The premise seems fairly original, but if there's anything we've learned from Hungry Joker is that the readers don't want originality, so we end up with Black Clover.

Same with you... I'm hoping Chainsaw Man survive

I wonder when Soma will naff off...

And that's why Neverland and Dr. Stone are important. Or hell, even Act-Age.

It's not that they don't want originality, it's just that Shonen Jump as a whole has a few underlying themes and battle manga is more popular with boys. But you can make a "non-standard battle manga", as Bakuman。 put it, and be successful even if just among the Peripheral Demographic. Ohba and Obata proved it was possible and now Shirai/Demizu and Inagaki/Boichi continue the trend. Neo;lation is an exception in that it's trying to piggyback on this new intellectual trend, but is not getting it right.

Interesting. Where exactly do you think Neo’s going wrong?

I have two peeves with it, as much as I want it to succeed (because the artwork is very good and the theme itself is cool and increasingly trendy):

1. Personally, I find the exposition too "hand-holding" sometimes. Given the topic, it'd seem necessary, until one instance where the villain explains how he got screwed over. On the phone. To the very guy who screwed him. This is jarring. But again, this is more personal.

2. This one is more serious: lack of meaningful conflict. One starts from a superior position and so far beats everyone easily. The Beast's encounter was the best chapter so far because it finally created a high-stakes situation and set up a bigger plot point. And then they leave it aside for another seemingly pointless mini-arc. They have set up the means to establish this conflict, but they have to be better explored now or the manga may not survive long enough for them to end whatever they're planning.

I forgot... What's your guys opinion that Chainsaw Man and Hell Warden were a bit low on the list?
