Also considered doing a federal job in Ottawa, although it may need me to give up my non-Canadian nationality.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Why would you have to give up citizenship for a job?
That’s the epitome of privilege right there, not considering armed nazis a threat to your life. - SilaswCSIS. If I’m allowed for an interview, they’ll likely ask if I’m dual since I need to explain about my background in the cover letter.
I also need to obtain a security clearance.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Yeah some jobs require you to give up any other citizenship’s you hold for security reasons, they need to ensure that you’re loyal only to the government you’re about to work for.
You may also need to provide details of your online activities as part of a background check, which will include admitting to posting here. If I hadn’t failed my police physical I know that the background check for that requires disclosure of all regular online activity accounts and the websites one frequents.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranThe job I looked at also include vetting from my friends and my uni teachers aside from interviews based on my resume and my cover letter.
It also requires a G license (Ontario) or class 5. Bad thing is that I recovered from being operated on for a while, so I wasn’t able to renew it. I’ll have to explain that I still have driving experience from abroad.
I’ll also have to call the consulate and see if I can regain my non-Canadian nationality in the unlikely case that I’m in CSIS for a while and then leave the service as a private citizen.
From what my older uni buddy who did pol sci with me and from anonymous posters in some forum site, they probably won’t ask that... Maybe if I apply for CSE.
Although it doesn’t hurt to get an answer ready.
OTOH, I’m torn on whether to mention that I’m dual after I immigrated to Canada from my late teens or not in the cover letter when I explain why I want to work for CSIS.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I don't know if I'm repeating myself, but I'm convinced that traditional job search methods do not work and the only way to get hired is to know someone that can get you a job.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."It really depends where you’re looking, in some sectors nepotism is the only way in, in others it’s a huge issue that will get everyone thrown out.
Basically everyone I know in the bar trade got into it either via knowing someone personally or knowing a place by being a regular. A lot of people also get future jobs via knowing someone, it’s how I got 4 of my 5 bar jobs.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranI've been looking mostly at Data Entry/Inventory/Stock jobs, with no success. Doesn't help that there's so little of those jobs compared to the upfront work like Customer Service.
To pity someone is to tell them "I feel bad about being better than you."One thing people all too often fail to impress upon young people is the importance of networking.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI’ve found that the whole “it’s all about who you know” thing is much more common in the public sector than the private sector. The public sector also has a much different approach to work ethic.

They should have sent a poet.I guess it’s different here, in the UK the public sector has strong ethics rules and nepotism will get everyone involved fired, while in the private sector anything goes and hiring you partner/friend/coworker’s brother is fine.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranAnyway, the dad did the talk on working with the federal government in Ottawa like Global Affairs Canada.
Doesn’t know that I’m contemplating to work for CSIS and he suggests that I don’t mention that I’m dual national in a cover letter or interview with GAC.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"No CSIS plans for the moment. Dad mentioned that some property in the Philippines is under my name, which means removing said nationality will make it harder to get it back and the property ownership is rendered meaningless.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I have to go to my brother's graduation in August but the interviewer told me that might be a problem as they don't allow leave for the time I requested. I mostly work in warehouses but some of the warehouses. I work don;t allow part timers to get vacation or leave unless I want a new job that is. What should I do? I do want to work there and I need the money but I cannot afford to leave unless I want find another job.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"Seems like you've got a choice to make. Do you lose your job and put yourself through the process of finding another one to attend the graduation? Or do you explain to your family that you need to keep your job?
I'm guessing you've already tried and failed to get your employer to make an exception here.
None of us can really give you advice on what to do here. All I'll say is that the sooner you make your choice, the better.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThis maybe a thinly veiled attempt at a third option but what kind of job will allow me to take off that week? Warehouses are out of the question as I mostly work part time.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"It depends on the place of employment's policies. I suggest figuring this out before you apply for an interview.
But I don't think a third option is really on the table here. It's the graduation or your job. You gotta ask yourself which is more important to you. I'm certainly not going to tell you which one to pick either, that's something you've got to decide for yourself. But like I said, you gotta figure it out fast. It's already the middle of June.

Disgusted, but not surprisedSuffice to say, I will have to take your advice as I do not want to be on the unemployment line before I even have a chance to start my new job. I will ask the human resources what are their employment policies as I do not want any complication as a result of this.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"A lot of jobs don't allow any absences during the first 60-90 days, purportedly to make sure you're trained on schedule. A certain amount of it is to weed out the people with poor self-control that, say, go on weekend benders then call in sick Monday, but it also selects for people who will choose the job over any personal attachments.
I’ll see if I can apply for an internship at the UNDP post in Bangkok.
My volunteer time in Gawad Kalinga is almost up.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"That means my options are limited to nonexistent. I wonder if weekend only jobs would work out for me or even if I have to signup for a lab experiment that will pay $500. I don;t have a lot of time left but I may have to takeout loans.
I hope it works out for you.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"The ad mentions that someone with a BA can apply, provided that it’s less than a year.
I recently graduated a few days after I returned from hiatus in 2012 due to bad grades and being in the hospital.
My mom is apprehensive about the Bangkok internship even though she said that she doesn’t want to be controlling...
UPDATE:
Not sure if I’ll qualify, but I got this.
- Currently in the final year of a Bachelor's degree; or
- Have graduated no longer than 1 year ago from a master's degree or equivalent studies.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Best luck, Ominae, a steady job would suit you.
I am now told that Blue Cross will be extending a formal hire offer to me...soon.
Well I don’t know if the job can be secured with the last requirement I mentioned in my previous post even though I graduated with a BA at last.
Though if I get the job, it can lead to other serious jobs.
Plus it’s an internship in Thailand, a few hours geographically away from the Philippines.
I hope the UN get its act together to provide financial aid for interns when they’re posted in places far away from home.
I’ll try to apply for a public service job in Canada.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"
Looking at a New York with the Asia Society and it mentions the salary requirements.
I placed it in the cover letter since it explains it better there.
