Was scouted locally in Manila for a role in Financial Crime - KYC Associate (Japanese Speaking). Looked at it and the JLPT level needed is N2. Wanted to laugh at the HR person.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Wanted to share this post about people who find other jobs later in life/defy expectations set by parents and society.
Pretty much agree with this.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Are any alternatives to online jobs other than customer service or rating?
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"Got a potential interview with a risk management/private intel company in Pennsylvania. Problem is that I'm not physically present (in USA) and I'm running into the problem I may not be able to do remote work and whether it can be done with or with no appropriate visa.
I may have to politely turn it down.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Strange thing.
The COO of the risk management company slash private intelligence firm has arranged to set up a Google Meet interview despite not being in the US.
Things we'll have to settle is how the work will be (e.g. work under my own timezone), whether the company will arrange for an international payroll company to pay my salary and other things I need to worry about.
I'll have to worry about setting up on paying taxes (and use the tax treaty between Manila and Washington) and maybe get clearances.
Otherwise, I can still walk away.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"A commentary on not overstating the value of a degree beyond the first job.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"So the interview was done via Google Meet.
Since the company can’t allow remote working, big question is if I’m willing to relocate to Pennsylvania as soon as possible.
The COO is a nice guy and he’s willing to let me think about it, but I’m 89-97% going to turn it down considering what’s happening with COVID-19.
I’ll (plan to) walk away.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Whelp. Company turned me down 'cause they can't "legally" process visa sponsorship for this Canadian dude.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I am really sorry.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"Well the CEO linked up with me via Linked In. Least I didn't burn that bridge. Told me that he heard good things from the interview.

"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I hope you do well. I hope I do well too. I am not qualified for most jobs.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"I think it's really bad enough when the parent says "You should've studied/been X instead of Y" job, I'm gonna lose it.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Don't you just hate that?
A cruel, sick joke is still a joke, and sometimes all you can do is laugh.I've got this weird nagging feeling going on. Long story short, after trying to apply for a part-time position, the application passed through some kind of public resume posting on websites with names like Nexxt and Lensa. Seems like it caught some attention, and I got interviewed over a skype text chat allegedly by Tilray Inc. Thing is, they sure offered me a postion quickly...
Edit: Aha, here it is:
I know how this goes. You deposit the check, it get a hold, you pay there, the check doesn't clear, you get nothing.

SoundCloudMy laptop is currently on the fritz but I wonder what would happen if I tell a potential work-at-home employer that my machine no longer works? Also, I do not have an office or items but I do have a library in my neighborhood however.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"Would probably depend on whether the materials you're working on is considered sensitive and should not be put on a publicly-accessible computer, like personally-identifiable information.
Yeah, a workplace expecting you to not only supply a work space but also a work machine is kinda concerning. Work laptops are a thing, for both your security and for the security of the workplace.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranWhich provide the work laptops? Mine is not a business laptop and it isn't up to snuff for most things.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"A work laptop is something a workplace should provide, the same way they’d be expected to provide a work computer in a physical workplace.
Any job that asks you to provide your own tools is one you should be very wary about.
"And the Bunny nails it!" ~ Gabrael "If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we." ~ CyranOkay. Is there any work at home jobs that do not require that I do customer service? I am not good at speaking with other people as I tend to keep mostly to myself. I do not have a dedicated business phone either.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"Welp. Hard to get an intelligence analyst job with companies like Booz Allen unless I get a basic clearance and I can't even move out yet. There's still a lockdown in Manila, plus I wanted to do a Masters to stand out.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Looks like I’ll be able to be a paid intern for the Stimson Center.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"Scratch that.
Got an email from the Stimson Center that I’m not considered anymore after the first interview round.
May as well find a full-time remote job. Rather be back in Canada than just get stuck here in the Philippines.
"Exit muna si Polgas. Ang kailangan dito ay si Dobermaxx!"I have a question, I'm currently doing college classes to become a librarian but is that even a viable career path anymore or at least in a couple years when I'm finished?
I'm asking mainly because I've heard at least a few people say that it's a dead-end job thanks to the internet but many other places I've checked say that it's either evolving with the times or not really growing but remaining stable.
Suffice to say I am way underqualified for the advanced jobs but there doesn't seem even anyone entry-level jobs that aren't data entry, programming, or customer service.
