This thread's for talking about the Marvel Comics line, whether the comics are decades old or brand new.
As well as the superhero tales of the Marvel Universe, that also includes all the other things Marvel's done (Epic Comics, Icon Comics, Star Comics and all the rest), as well as the older stories by Atlas and Timely, the companies that later became Marvel.
Acquisitions like Malibu Comics and Miracleman are also on-topic, as are the licensed 20th Century Studios titles, the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Zoids and Transformers comics, and all of the comics created locally by regional imprints like Marvel UK and Marvel Italia.
- We have dedicated threads for some groups of titles (such as Spider-Man and the X-Men). You can still discuss them here, but you might want to use the more specific threads.
- We also have threads for Indiana Jones
, Star Wars
, Predator
and some of the other franchises. Sometimes it may be more useful to discuss the comics there rather than here — but they're still on-topic and there's no hard rule.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about them here.
Discussions that are only about Marvel adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics (e.g. if comparing Marvel to a DC story). When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
So apparently,
they're making a Black Panther movie. Let's hope Hudlin is kept as far away as possible. On a related note, anyone think that the whole 'Super Hero that is also a King/Ruler' is kind of ridiculous? I mean where do heroes like Aquaman and T'Challa find the time to both lead a nation and go gallavanting on the other side of the globe?

So, The Goddamn Fifteen Years In Development Hell Reckoning War begins next week. Any guesses for who the ultimate villain will be? Because Slott has said it is an established character, but one that hasn't been seen in literal decades. And the only characters I can think of that both fit that description and are powerful enough to initiate a cosmic Crisis Crossover are the old Dr. Strange foes Sise-Neg and Nebulos... who have nothing to do with She-Hulk or the Fantastic Four. So I'm stumped yo.
Oh huh, another juicy reveal from Defenders last week I just heard about, namely an actual answer for the common complaint about how Marvel has a ton of nihilistic evil gods and embodiments of entropy that are all supposedly different but seem to have basically the same purvey. Knull and Mikaboshi and Black Winter and the Hunger and the Griever and so on and on. Turns out the proverbial Final Boss of one of the previous revisions of the Multiverse was this gigantic-ass dark entropy god, and when he was defeated pieces of him sort of rained through time into future realities, giving rise to all those guys.
I've long wondered if there'd ever be an actual explanation for that.

This reminds me of a few villains' origins in different media.
- The Legend of Zelda's recurring Big Bad Ganon is really the incarnation of the Demon King Demise's hatred after he was defeated and sealed away by the first Link and Zelda.
- In the Sailor Moon manga's final arc, it is revealed that all of the previous Big Bad villains were incarnations of Chaos. It is also stated that Chaos' final and most powerful incarnation in the distant future will be a Senshi — Sailor Chaos.
- Samurai Jack's Big Bad Aku was born from a fragment of an Eldritch Abomination that was defeated by the gods long ago.

Disgusted, but not surprised![]()
The Sailor Moon example is particularly bad, since Chaos keeps creating new incarnations, who find a new reason to manipulate others and attack Sailor Moon for the crystal, all the while saying if the Silver Crystal didn't exist, there'd be peace when it's really Chaos' refusal to just fucking die and insistence on starting a new conflict that causes all the fight. Plus, if he did win, he'd just destroy everything because he kinda sorta hates life or whatever.
Getting back on topic, in Devil's Reign part 3, Tony was replaced by Chameleon....who got Pennanced Stared by Ghost Rider-Octavius/Superior Ghost Rider. Also, the heroes know that Kingpin is using Kilgrave to control New York, because Jessica Jones knows his powers very well.
One Strip! One Strip!damn death of doctor strange #5 was hardcore. time sliver steven master of the black arts uses a healing regeneration spell of kallicieus who had stevens hands and soul. this restored modern strange using kalliciues as a base. they then use the powers of 5 socerers supreme, strange, clea, magyk, tibero, and aggamon and use past strange as an astral bullet who combusts all the magic inside the child and sends the 3 mothers scattering across dimensions. modern strange starts to fade because death wont be cheated that easily and he gives clea one last kiss.
@ Hamburger Time: We know at least one cosmic entity of destruction, entropy and the IRS, Amatsu-Mikaboshi/the Chaos King was an aspect/piece of Oblivion, who's the abstract being of nothingness and void. He's often alluded to as being the primordial darkness/nothingness before creation. So I think a lot of the 3 edgy 5me cosmic beings are spawns/little bits of Oblivion manifesting
I get the impression that if The One Above All and The One Below All are like yin and yang, Oblivion is wuji
Okay this is the greatest burn ever.
"I guess we know who's smarter"
For context Cosmic Tony has now made everyone a Stark level intellect and Reed tells Sue he feels dumber.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I mean, Reed being smarter than Tony is a fact right?
So yeah, of course Reed would get dumber.
One Strip! One Strip! It’s not a surprise
Reed is generally The Smartest Guy in marvel, unless explicitly noted
Ie Moon Girl, some cosmic beings that make even Reed into a gnat, third example
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think Moon Girl being smarter is also a legit fact.
And she's young too, so she's got a lot of room to grow.
One Strip! One Strip!Reed: “I must tutor this bright young mind!”
Valeria:
Reed: “Off to the sewers to touch all of her experiments”
Valeria: “Sure”
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOn a side note, regarding Moon Girl and Valeria, I want to note that I think Slott completely fucked up when he tried to contrast them. Slott took the view that Valeria's stuff is more focused on function, while Lunella's are more elegant. The thing is, that is the complete opposite of how it should work. Lunella's a guerilla inventor - she uses the resources available to her. Her shit doesn't need to look good, it just needs to work. But Valeria grew up around super-science. And Doom is her godfather, and that's a man who appreciates style. So logically, Valeria would think more about the form of her inventions than Lunella would.
I know it's an incredibly minor thing to quibble over, but when I read the issue where they talk about each other's strengths as inventors, it bugged me. Because Valeria would never make a weapon that included a boxing glove. She would rather lose a fight than do that. It would just be embarrassing to her.
Why yes, I do spend entirely too much thinking about it.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Ooooh I didn't know about that. I get what you mean, I agree thats a huge fuck up.
The aesthetics of these super-scientists are incredibly important. After all without them how would we tell them apart?
There's like over 20 uber-level genius characters. There has to be a decent distinction between them all.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."How could they look at Lunella's costume and think she cares about elegance.
