Marvel Comics General

Go To

This thread's for talking about the Marvel Comics line, whether the comics are decades old or brand new.

As well as the superhero tales of the Marvel Universe, that also includes all the other things Marvel's done (Epic Comics, Icon Comics, Star Comics and all the rest), as well as the older stories by Atlas and Timely, the companies that later became Marvel.

Acquisitions like Malibu Comics and Miracleman are also on-topic, as are the licensed 20th Century Studios titles, the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Zoids and Transformers comics, and all of the comics created locally by regional imprints like Marvel UK and Marvel Italia.

  • We have dedicated threads for some groups of titles (such as Spider-Man and the X-Men). You can still discuss them here, but you might want to use the more specific threads.
  • We also have threads for Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Predator and some of the other franchises. Sometimes it may be more useful to discuss the comics there rather than here — but they're still on-topic and there's no hard rule.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about them here.

Discussions that are only about Marvel adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics (e.g. if comparing Marvel to a DC story). When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

    Original text of OP
A thread for all the miscellaneous Marvel discussion that doesn't have its own thread.

So apparently, they're making a Black Panther movie. Let's hope Hudlin is kept as far away as possible. On a related note, anyone think that the whole 'Super Hero that is also a King/Ruler' is kind of ridiculous? I mean where do heroes like Aquaman and T'Challa find the time to both lead a nation and go gallavanting on the other side of the globe?

Was it Bendis who had Carol be kind of really bloodthirsty and enjoy watching a alien choke to death after she left him in space while she just floated in front of him?
I...don't remember this at all. Was this during Infinity? Then it was probably Jonathan Hickman.

IIRC Dan Slott enjoyed saying exactly how much time has passed since Peter got bitten as a 15 year old(13 years ago IIRC)because it meant his word was law. So Peter is 28 and those 13 years in universe took +50 years for us.

Edit:[up]No, she was still Ms. Marvel in the classic costume. Might've been during Secret Invasion(which would probably make the alien a Skrull).

Edit2: Found it! Looks to be a Super Skrull in the form of Hulk.

[up][up]Considering that her predecessor was an alien, it's still pretty f'ed up.

That reminds me. In Earths Mightiest Heroes, there seemed to be an implication that Carol's powers were messing with her mind- making her more violent when using them and I'm guessing also motivating her to wear that striperiffic costume. So, I guess that's taken from the comics (at least the violent tendencies part)?

Thor would be the constant in the Avengers. He's a god, after all.

It was in the Brian Reed series, which had Carol struggling with PTSD due to all of the fucked up shit that has happened to her, along with guilt from things she's done during scenarios like Civil War.

Like the Punisher, she kind of enjoyed Secret Invasion because it was a chance to cut loose and go all out against a chaotic evil enemy.

Wasn't Cassie deaged to look younger than she did on the Young Avengers? She looks to be the same age as Kate there.

[up]Uh, no? She was never de-aged. She was 14 when she first joined the team and then in a recent issue of Ant-Man they said she was 15.

I meant in appearance. Prior to her resurrection she wasn't drawn as if she was 15.

I'm still not sure what you mean. She and Kate never looked very different in terms of height or body shape, even though Kate was always a few years older than her (I think she's the oldest Young Avenger isn't she?)

Cassie sometimes looked older because of the specific artist, but she was never deaged.

Found it!◊ Looks to be a Super Skrull in the form of Hulk.
Yeah, I think that's Brian Reed, not Brian Michael Bendis. Reed wrote her Ms Marvel series for a while.

I wonder how Kate's going to feel about it. It must be weird to meet your ex-dead best friend who's still a teenager when Kate has aged up to her early twenties. They're in such different places now.

Kate was 18 when they met, so I think she's 19 or 20 right now, just like Cassie was 14 and is now 15.

She was twenty during the last volume of Young Avengers and she mentioned her birthday was coming up soon, so I assumed it might have passed between issues. She's 20-21 for sure though.

Judging from the preview pages, Kate seems pretty psyched about seeing Cassie again. I don't think the age gap will cause any problems.

Gillen answered a question about S.W.O.R.D. on his Reddit AMA(also it sounds like he won't come back for a Marvel hero book again for a while as things are now).

Edit: Talking about X-Men and events.

Edit2: More X-Men with some tie-in talk.

It's unfortunate because aside from the work for hire aspect, a lot of these people were created in a time where I don't think anyone, not even the heads of the company, ever seriously thought they'd be starring in TV shows and movies.

So the ANAD Avengers are growing on me. I'm starting to feel the Sam and Jane Foster dynamics. Miles also had a great none-Venom Blast showing so it was great seeing him think outside the box to take down Equinox.
