This thread's for talking about the Marvel Comics line, whether the comics are decades old or brand new.
As well as the superhero tales of the Marvel Universe, that also includes all the other things Marvel's done (Epic Comics, Icon Comics, Star Comics and all the rest), as well as the older stories by Atlas and Timely, the companies that later became Marvel.
Acquisitions like Malibu Comics and Miracleman are also on-topic, as are the licensed 20th Century Studios titles, the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Zoids and Transformers comics, and all of the comics created locally by regional imprints like Marvel UK and Marvel Italia.
- We have dedicated threads for some groups of titles (such as Spider-Man and the X-Men). You can still discuss them here, but you might want to use the more specific threads.
- We also have threads for Indiana Jones
, Star Wars
, Predator
and some of the other franchises. Sometimes it may be more useful to discuss the comics there rather than here — but they're still on-topic and there's no hard rule.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about them here.
Discussions that are only about Marvel adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics (e.g. if comparing Marvel to a DC story). When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
So apparently,
they're making a Black Panther movie. Let's hope Hudlin is kept as far away as possible. On a related note, anyone think that the whole 'Super Hero that is also a King/Ruler' is kind of ridiculous? I mean where do heroes like Aquaman and T'Challa find the time to both lead a nation and go gallavanting on the other side of the globe?

Looking at the August solicits
.
Jeph Loeb is back? Sorry, X-fans. But hey, at least it's more Age of Apocalypse, because nostalgia-baiting is never a disappointment, right? Bringing the Ao A X-Men into the main universe feels desperate, frankly.
A comic told exclusively through splash pages is a fairly neat premise. Ryan North is actually one of the few writers I'd trust to pull it off, given he's experienced with weird ideas. And Mc Guinness is a great artist. Also, the Galloway Saturday Morning variant cover is fun.
The Di Meo variant for Black Cat is a definite standout, even among a set of gorgeous covers.
Looks like Spider-Gwen isn't being retconned into being from 616, she's just going to start setting up her life there. Not really feeling her new costume, but hey, characters need to go through costume changes now and then.
Oh wow, I love the Di Meo FF cover with the heart. It's so sweet, such a nice little reflection of the team. Also, the Skottie Young baby variant is very cute.
Huh, they're bringing back that Black White & Blood thing. I figured that concept might have runs its course. But hey, beautiful Momoko cover.
Pina's cover for Dormammu is very cool. Really gives a vibe of an unstoppable being, while also giving that hope of him being stopped. The Bring On the Bad Guys series seems pretty fun in general.
Black Panther vs. Hulk and Amadeus. That seems like not great odds, but it might be a very good demonstration of why Black Panther is awesome.
That main cover for Uncle Scrooge: Earth's Mightiest Duck is badass.
The cover for One World Under Doom sure is gruesome and unsettling. Great job.
That Vecchio cover for Jeff! Such a great homage!
Wolverines & Deadpools: The Shadow King is back? When did that happen? It was inevitable, I suppose. He was basically dealt with on Krakoa, right? Or am I misremembering? I know there was a New Mutants arc that dealt with Farouk, but he wasn't actually the Shadow King. Maybe I am misremembering, actually. Did Shadow King show up at all during the Krakoa era?
Annie Wu variant for Spider-Girl! Nice! Don't see her much on Marvel stuff.
Shocker getting a new team, the Aftershocks? OK, that's cute. Good job, Herman.
White Cat being introduced in Miles Morales. He was part of that legacy variant cover thing, right? Inari seems cool, and that Momoko cover is, as usual, beautiful.
That Venom cover gives upside-down-kiss vibes. I wonder if it's intended as a reference.
Ultimate Archangel, cool.
The Dauterman variant for Magik makes me even more convinced that it's time she move away from the booty shorts. She's had them long enough, and for as few looks as she's had, she's had better than what she has now. Also, I really like that Dani is part of Magik's supporting cast. Those two were always so good together in the New Mutants. I know there's no chance they actually start dating, but they should.
Artgerm variant of Jubilee! Love it! Also, Deadpool and Outlaw teaming up again? Cool. They were fun together, way back when.
Storm riding a hippo. OK, yeah, cool, that is definitely an intimidating steed when you remember that hippos kill more people than basically any other mammal.
The Saowee variant for Laura Wolverine is adorable. Also, yay Gabby. I hope she uses the Honey Badger name. Scout's not a bad name, it's just not Honey Badger.
So Wolverine's bringing back Sabretooth? Ugh, why? Am I wrong for finding Sabretooth to generally be an incredibly boring character? How long has he even been dead? He died during the whole fall of Krakoa stuff, right? So it's been, what, a year? Maybe a little more? Leave him dead for, like, a decade.
Wolverine looks so weird in a Stryfe helmet. It makes his claws look so small, somehow.
Not a fan of the Emma Frost covers basically being pin-ups. Reminds me of the old Emma Frost ongoing, which had the cheesecakiest covers. Also, I like when covers - at least the main ones - give some sort of idea of what the story might be about, and these covers say nothing. At least the Malavia variant is genuinely stunning.
Whew, I'm not familiar with Ejikure, but their cover for Dr. Aphra looks great. Love the art style.
On a side note, if I didn't miscount, and not counting Star Wars, there's 15 comics written by women or Enbies, out of 71 comics published. That's . . . not a great ratio, honestly.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.
Honestly, I can't say I was impressed with Mantlo's run on Alpha Flight. It had some interesting ideas, executed poorly. So much potential, but it just couldn't live up to it.
The Iron Monger Saga was very significant; Tony was out of the suit for 2 full years as Rhodey took over, and they were a team-up duo for a full year after that. It goes roughly from #160-200 as Obadiah Stane wrecks Tony's personal and corporate life.
Then there was the time an ex-girlfriend of his, Kathy Dare, shot him in #242 and he became paralyzed for about 50 issues as a microchip that helped him walk was infected with a virus, finally recovering in #300. Rhodey was CEO during this time.

The Protomen enhanced my life.I’ve been wanting to read Iron Man’s back catalogue
I started reading tales of suspense but I started at the beginning when it was not an Iron Man book and I got distracted
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOh wow. I forgot that guy was on board with building Sentinel robots.
It really comes off as him just wanting to spite Tony more than anything.
One Strip! One Strip! No I think it's still his original body. Well for given value of original considering its the one he had ever since he turned evil, was replaced by a teen from another universe, went inside onslaught and became another version, and then all of those versions got fused together.
My point is ever since heroes reborn it's been the same body.

I feel like his acclaimed appearance in Born Again probably help motivate his return.
Helps that Born Again actually progressed the character in a significant way by having him straight up maul a bunch of cops with the same barbaric savagery he has for any other criminal.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Frank being willing to take out Cops hasn't helped before.
Because yeah, that scene was great, but why now?
One Strip! One Strip!Thing is, no Punisher story is going to successfully discourage the alt-right from using his symbol, because most of them don't actually read comics, and I wouldn't be surprised if half of them don't even know the symbol belongs to a specific fictional character in the first place, I've seen plenty of older people with the sticker on their trucks that don't strike me as people who would be keeping up with popular culture like the comics or the show.
I don't know what the solution to this is or if there really is one, but I'm of the opinion that it shouldn't dictate how the character is used in an official capacity.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks Marathon

If only he rebranded them to regular giant security bots.
