This thread's for talking about the Marvel Comics line, whether the comics are decades old or brand new.
As well as the superhero tales of the Marvel Universe, that also includes all the other things Marvel's done (Epic Comics, Icon Comics, Star Comics and all the rest), as well as the older stories by Atlas and Timely, the companies that later became Marvel.
Acquisitions like Malibu Comics and Miracleman are also on-topic, as are the licensed 20th Century Studios titles, the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Zoids and Transformers comics, and all of the comics created locally by regional imprints like Marvel UK and Marvel Italia.
- We have dedicated threads for some groups of titles (such as Spider-Man and the X-Men). You can still discuss them here, but you might want to use the more specific threads.
- We also have threads for Indiana Jones
, Star Wars
, Predator
and some of the other franchises. Sometimes it may be more useful to discuss the comics there rather than here — but they're still on-topic and there's no hard rule.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about them here.
Discussions that are only about Marvel adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics (e.g. if comparing Marvel to a DC story). When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
So apparently,
they're making a Black Panther movie. Let's hope Hudlin is kept as far away as possible. On a related note, anyone think that the whole 'Super Hero that is also a King/Ruler' is kind of ridiculous? I mean where do heroes like Aquaman and T'Challa find the time to both lead a nation and go gallavanting on the other side of the globe?

Sounds like a repeat of Spider-Man: Life Story when MJ left Peter and took the kids with her, and Peter ended up dating Jessica Jones for a while, but it all turned out well in the end, Peter eventually went back to MJ and his family, even if it took them ten years

That Marvel Pride issue was . . . something. A couple of the stories were great. The Mystique/Destiny one was a highlight, the one about Prodigy's bi awakening, the Billy/Teddy vows. The She-Hulk one, while a bit of a cop-out, was really well-done, and the Black Cat/Jessie Drake one was pretty charming.
That said.
It says a lot about Marvel's trans rep that, of the three stories spotlighting trans characters, two don't have powers, and the third seems to just do her own thing. The She-Hulk story, much as I enjoyed it, created a random civilian who just idolizes She-Hulk. Then there's the opening history lesson by Prodigy, which briefly spotlights Sera as Angela's soulmate . . . despite Marvel having broken them up for no reason, and having since made it clear they couldn't care less about Sera and have no intention to use her.
The Iceman story is honestly kinda silly, and makes no real sense in continuity, but it was definitely very sweet and cute. The Charlene Mc Gowan one was mediocre, the Kyle/Northstar one kinda sucked, the Anole one kinda sucked (though I liked the Anole/Graymalkin friendship), the Karma one was OK but not great, and the Somnus one, as well, was just OK.
But yeah. On the whole, definitely could've been better, and it really highlights how pathetic Marvel's trans rep continues to be.
Edit: Also, that big final "Love Is Love" splash page? Featuring Carol and Rhodey very prominently, with Scott, Jean and Logan also very visible? Fucking seriously? Come on. Seriously, what the fuck is that?

X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. In fairness, Reed was using Asimov science to justify arresting half of his friends
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAnd that was also a plot point in the previous Spider-Man: Life Story, where a frustrated Peter (who had himself broken up with MJ) verbally castigates Reed and twists the knife by mentioning Sue leaving Reed for Namor, and gets bitch-slapped in return.

Trope Editor (he/him)Iron Man got did so dirty in Spider Man Life Story that I’d like to see an Iron Man Life Story
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAlright. Give me some examples of heroes fighting villains they don't usually fight.
It can be one on one, it can be team fights, whatever.
Acts of Vengeance examples will be kept to a minimum if possible.

One Strip! One Strip!
In the Avengers story that introduced the Masters of Evil, the villains were each selected by Baron Zemo to combat their particular arch-nemesis — Radioactive Man for Thor, the Black Knight for Ant-Man and the Wasp, the Melter for Iron Man, and Zemo himself for Captain America.
In response the heroes caught the Masters off guard by switching opponents, with Thor fighting the Black Knight, Iron Man fighting the Radioactive Man, and Ant-Man and Wasp fighting the Melter. (Zemo still fought Cap, though.)
Trope Editor (he/him)The first appearance of Rogue had her be part of a Brotherhood of Mutants team that nearly whupped the Avengers.
It's a story that's always struck with me because of how Destiny is used (not just vague prophecies of the future, actual pinpoint instructions) and because nowadays a lot of the Brotherhood are seen as low tier particularly in power vs a group like the Avengers, but they nearly pulled out a win.
Granted Rogue did most of the heavy lifting (she dropped Captain America, Thor, and Wonder Man by herself), and honestly I'm not sure her powers would even work like that anymore-. Plus, losing most of their heavy hitters made the rest of the Avengers have to rely on smarts, luck and teamwork.

Wait what?
