This thread's for talking about the Marvel Comics line, whether the comics are decades old or brand new.
As well as the superhero tales of the Marvel Universe, that also includes all the other things Marvel's done (Epic Comics, Icon Comics, Star Comics and all the rest), as well as the older stories by Atlas and Timely, the companies that later became Marvel.
Acquisitions like Malibu Comics and Miracleman are also on-topic, as are the licensed 20th Century Studios titles, the Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Zoids and Transformers comics, and all of the comics created locally by regional imprints like Marvel UK and Marvel Italia.
- We have dedicated threads for some groups of titles (such as Spider-Man and the X-Men). You can still discuss them here, but you might want to use the more specific threads.
- We also have threads for Indiana Jones
, Star Wars
, Predator
and some of the other franchises. Sometimes it may be more useful to discuss the comics there rather than here — but they're still on-topic and there's no hard rule.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about them here.
Discussions that are only about Marvel adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules
- tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics (e.g. if comparing Marvel to a DC story). When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).
So apparently,
they're making a Black Panther movie. Let's hope Hudlin is kept as far away as possible. On a related note, anyone think that the whole 'Super Hero that is also a King/Ruler' is kind of ridiculous? I mean where do heroes like Aquaman and T'Challa find the time to both lead a nation and go gallavanting on the other side of the globe?

So I read the What If issue that was set 25 years after the original Secret Wars, with all the heroes and villains having stopped fighting and had kids. One is the son of the Lizard. But it doesn't say who the mother is. And I'm really curious who the mother is. And I really hope the conception happened while he was Curt Connors.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.![]()
Yep. It honestly wasn't a particularly good story, but most What Ifs are pretty lame stories.
I liked What If Annihilation, What If the Avengers All Had Beards, What If Korvac for supporting my bias against Korvac, and several of the secret wars books which were basically What Ifs
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe one that introduced Spider-Girl was actually pretty good. I honestly can't remember any others. The vast majority were cool concepts that just didn't have the space to be executed in a genuinely compelling way.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics. The What If Captain American Were Revived Today (the 1980s one) was really good.
The Protomen enhanced my life. For some reason my favorite What Ifs are these:
- The one where the Avengers didn’t stay as a team after the Hulk left, and it ended up with all of them coming together as a team but in Iron Man armor (I think that’s how the story went, damn selective memories)
- The one where Uncle Ben didn’t get killed. It was pretty interesting to see how he reacted to learning that Peter is Spider-Man.
- The one where the Fantastic Four fought Doctor Doom . . . before the accident that gave them their powers. I do always wonder why Doom never fucked with Richard in between the time of him getting expelled from college and the fateful cosmic accident that created the Fantastic Four. This one is definitely my favorite.
So I just read the Wolverine The Origin 2002 miniseries
The one where Wolverine was a sickly rich kid with allergies and accidentally killed his childhood friend and first love when she tripped and fell on his claws and also he befriends a wolf pack and gets the name Logan and Wolverine, the habit of calling people bub, and his love of Japan all while working in a stone quarry
So I guess my question is how long that took to retcon
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAbout the nicest thing I can say about it is that the original outlines for it were even worse
It seriously falls into most of the big prequel pitfalls

Forever liveblogging the Avengers

Her and Spidey Gwen could use a relaunch down the line.
Just Makima.
