They want to do something that will literally break the internet as we know it, at the least forcing ISPs to MitM all traffic and breaking security.

Fucking hell, what is it with governments and thinking that computers are magic that can do everything you want with ease with no downsides?

This is really bad. Information security is a global safety concern.

They want it so that police can catch criminals easier.

But this is extremely absurd. It is like banning clothes so that no one can hide guns underneath them. To anyone actually in the computer industry, they are both laughing their asses off at the absurdity of the notion, and rushing to purchase their apocalypse survival kits, because that shit is dangerous.

Honestly, I've raised this topic a few times among my friends and colleagues in my college. No one really likes when the government tries to regulate the internet or limit some security feature in the name of fighting crime or terrorism.

More often than not those laws are simply attempts to end net neutrality, or undermine privacy and enforce copy right claims in the name of fighting terrorism or crime. Most of the propositions and laws are insanely poorly conceived and most of them are written by people who don't know how computers and the internet works.

As those laws often create security breaches for the end user and create even more trouble for the IT and ISP companies who have to enforce those laws at the request of the state. End to end encryption is paramount to secure transactions and privacy in general, without it you might as well paste all your passwords and user information on your facebook page since packet sniffing is something trivially easy to do.

Maybe someone can help me here.

Today every steam app I launch from my desktop my Virus Scanner, AVG, quarantines saying its a "idp.alexa.51", I run Malwarebytes and run a full scan with AVG and nothing.

False positive or is there something wrong.

EDIT: holy crap even my wireless drivers are being quarantined.

That one is listed as a common false positive.

Ahh ok then, I guess I will add exceptions for FFXIII trilogy and my wifi drivers then, those seem to be the ones doing it.

Anyway I was just about to buy the new Nvidia 1060 today, to finally upgrade my crappy AMD HD 6670. I get an email from newegg saying they are out and every single website on the net has sold out of them... Wtf.

It out preforms the Titan X for 1/4th the price, what did you expect to happen?

That maybe I could order one 5 minutes after they went on sale before they sold out.

Damnit I hope they stock more soon. I really wanted to get it going before the launch of wow legion, 20 fps for the next month and a half will be annoying enough let alone having that when it actually matters.

Not sure if this is the right place or not but I keep having some query.prod.cms.rt.microsoft thing pop up in my internet history. Anyone know what that is and how I can stop it?

Does it go away if you run Adblock?

if it ends in a .com, it comes from microsoft's servers. Could be part of advertising software. Or any plugin that microsoft has a hand in.

Yeah it does end in Microsoft.com. Thing is it only seems to pop up when I close my laptop. When I click on it there's a few "V37" hits, where the URL says something about Machine Unlock, Out Of Sleep, and On Idle.

My history says it only started yesterday. There's no hits on Sunday or earlier.

I don't use internet explorer, mostly because I see it to be a giant security hole. But that is personal bias. What you are seeing may or may not be an internet explorer thing. And I cannot confirm it.

Anyone have suggestions for batch-renaming/converting a whole bunch of .htm files so that they all have the .html extension instead?

So my iPod won't sync with my desktop (claims to be unrecognised when I plug it in) but will sync with the laptop I stopped using because of the buggered display drivers.

Hrm.

I have never used an Ipod. Do you need to download an ipod driver to sync?
