Wait, so Daltar's character's lightning alchemy was inspired by an eccentric scientist demonstrating artificial lightning? Neat.

"Steel Heart Alchemist" isn't taken too, but, you know, there's someone else with a similar name... I think.

Also, something else to put in your sign-up sheets- if you're already a State Alchemist or if you are applying to be one.

Totally not inspired by Nikola Tesla, specially his portrayal in The Prestige >.>

Elisabeth is also totally not a fangirl for this world's equivalent of Tesla.

Before I go through the motions of finalizing a signup, an alchemist that specializes in magma would be too rediculous and overpowered, right? Because that and manipulating sound or heavens forbid plasma ( both of which might present similar problems in power scale and would probably require an unbelievably precise amount of fine-tuned manipulation to pull off) are all my unimaginitive ass can come up with for an Alchemist ATM.

If so, I could probably come up with a Badass Normal.

Coming up with Alchemist powers is hard, right?

Besides making weapons out of metal, explosions via chemical reactions and moving earth it gets a tad hard to imagine other stuff to do without some interesting knowledge of chemistry.

Well, I don't quite remember the exact preciseness with which an alchemist can alter certain things and my knowledge of chemistry sucks but if you have a source of electricity on hand, causing directed blasts of lightning via creating artificially ionized pathways in the air leading from the energy source to the target might be possible.

So yes, due to my stupidity it is quite hard to do.

Yes and no. They're rather split on the issue, and there are a number of Xingese representatives and immigrants who live in Amestris.

NP at all, more than happy to help. As I'm guessing the Magma thing is too much I'll refocus my efforts into something non-alchemy related.

Sorry for the doublepost but I just got a character idea

Name: Lok Lim AKA The Spider

Age: Twenty five

Physical Appearance: like this, but smiley

Personality: On the surface Lok is quick to grin, always eager to please while being a bit lazy and taking almost nothing seriously. His greatest desire is to simply enjoy each day to the fullest and make those around him happy. He has a particular soft spot for children and will go to great lengths to see them smile or laugh.

Truthfully, he's a far more jaded and wary individual than he lets on, longing to escape his sanguine past and live in peace but feeling as if the lives he's taken may never let him rest. He's devoted himself to other people's happiness as a way to make up for the suffering he's caused, and while formerly a cold and ruthless person, he admits that at times he legitimately enjoys his new life. Because of all the suffering he's caused, he's vowed never to take a life again and hates people who play with the lives of others for the sake of power or personal enjoyment.

Country of Origin: Xing

Speciality: Razor Floss was his signature weapon earning him the infamous alias of "The Spider" and he is very skilled in its uses These range from cutting, trapping strangulation and climbing to putting on puppet shows for children.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Martial Arts: Lok was trained in Xingese Martial Arts from a young age and is a highly skilled combatant both unarmed and with a variety of weapons as well as acrobatics, though his oath to refrain from killing hampers him somewhat considering his training's emphasis on lethality.

Poisons: As part of his training and profession Lok has knowledge of a variety of lethal and non-lethal drugs and poisons.

Dragon's Pulse: Lok is able to read the Dragon's Pulse which gives him the ability to sense, locate and track the Qi of living beings around him, such as animals, allies and foes.

Explosives: Lok Lim has some knowledge of the types of portable explosives and trick bombs used in Xing.

Street Performance: Lok has been making a living as a street performer, doing slight of hand, clown acts, magic tricks and puppet shows.

Bio: Lok Lim was raised to be an assassin from a very very young age, so much so that his first kill was at five years old. He never knew either of his parents, but was fostered by a clan of assassins in a remote mountain village with many other children. His family hired themselves out to the many royal progeny of Xing to act as spies, assassins and bodyguards in the often rivalry driven Xingese royal courts.

Lok never questioned the morality of his lifestyle, but made the mistake of growing too attached to a Xingese princess he had been paid to protect. Things took a dark turn when his clan was given a more lucrative offer to betray their current employers. He refused the order and tried to protect her, but she wound up dying in his arms.

After that he faked his own death and immigrated to Amestris, trying to start his life anew.

Well, I guess I'll have to put this one up...

  • Name: Mo Sheng
  • Age: ~60 (give or take)
  • Physical Appearance: Like this, except in white robes, black shoes, and raising a different finger.tongue
  • Personality: Your quintessential Cranky Old Bastard (TM). In spite of his age, he remains as sharp - and as prickly - as a jar full of tacks.
  • Country of Origin: Xing
  • Speciality: Reasonably skilled with general alkahestry, but specialises in healing - and the reversal thereof, if pressed. By extension, he can trace the Dragon Pulse.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Well, it's a given that all Xingese know Xingese martial arts, but he specialises in unarmed combat and the use of - what else? - acupuncture needles. (Not that they're necessarily poisoned, but they can be used to trace transformation circles the same way May Chang uses her throwing darts.) He's also pretty good at conventional non-alkahestric medicine.
  • Bio: A professional healer and alkahestrist, Mo Sheng is old enough to have served the previous two emperors, as well as the current one. With the opening of the Xing-Amestris trade route, he paid a visit to Central to learn about Western Alchemy, and he's been trying to tie in the more scientifically-rigorous aspects of alchemy with alkahestry's versatility ever since then.
Then the war started, an event which has annoyed him to no end. It shows.

Alright, so, update.

Since Pyrite mentioned the Promised Day on his backstory, let me tell you guys what the military said about the Promised Day. Everyone knows that there was a 7 minute window where pretty much everyone in Amestris was dead and inside Father's stone. Well, the military says that a rogue mad alchemist was arming a conspiracy with the military's high command and devised a biological weapon that he would use to demand full control of Amestris to be handed to him- hence why Roy and his fellows invaded Central during the Promised Day. However, the weapon failed, killing him and knocking everyone in the entire country out for 7 minutes. Fuhrer Bradley sacrificed his life to save the people, making it so that the gas didn't kill them, and that's why he's dead.

Amazing cover story, eh?

Yeah, that's pretty much how I remember it too. I'm assuming that in the wake of that incident, Amestrian alchemy is now actually powered by plate tectonics instead of... you know...

[down]Thanks for the reminder. Have reworded things accordingly so that he's doesn't know what happened. And your post is a little cut off.

Fair enough. I think I'm just paranoid. Sign-up sheet in a few minutes.

Name: Felicia Breten

Age: 20

Physical Appearance: Will try to get picture up. Medium height, shoulder length brown hair, brown eyes.

Personality: Quiet and reserved, as befitting her specialty. She has a soft spot for cats.

Country of Origin: Amestris

Speciality: Water and ice alchemy

Other Skills and Abilities: Has a good sense of balance as well as a dagger she is fairly proficent with. She carries a flask of water with her to use at all times. Her transmutation circle is etched on the inside of the flask, and she has one tattooed on the palm of each hand.

Bio: Felicia (Lisa to her friends) has had a more or less normal childhood. Raised by State Alchemists who wanted to atone for their actions in Ishval, she registered and passed about a year ago. She has a strong sense of justice and will not hesitate to help people who ask her, but her slightly standoffish demeanor tends to put off some people.

Raised by State Alchemists who managed to avoid Ishval (she never asked how)

Hmmm... as far as my knowledge goes, most State Alchemists did not avoid Ishval, even if they didn't fight on the front lines. If you wanted to keep the bit about Ishval in, maybe she was an orphan raised by State Alchemists trying to atone for what they did?

Everyone else is accepted.
