I've not had enough sleep to remember. I'll have to get back to you on that one when I have.

Hmm. No one's posted so... Got passed the bit where I was hideously stuck at. I missed the giant fan I had to crawl through because I was looking for a door out of the massive gas filled chamber I helped create by screwing up the Reds' maintenance routine. I got through the rest of the section and made it out to the church base on the surface, after a lot of back tracking in a particular bit of the metro where there's a merchant who buys the weapons of the bandits I had to kill there.

I spent a pleasant hour or so once they were all dead walking back and forth to sell one weapon at a time - I'm not being sarcastic for once, it was a change of pace from the frantic nature of much of the rest of the game, and I cleared about five hundred or so military grade rounds, which came in handy once I made it to the swamp and had to kill those giant shrimp thingys.

At the moment I'm at the section where the Reds are slaughtering civilians who are infected with a virus and burning down a station, and it's not going so well. So much so I'm taking a small break.

I liked the bit where I had to kill the giant Nosalis mommy. Claymores came in VERY handy.

Hmm. Popular thread. evil grin

Ok. Finished the canon endings for both Metro 2033 and Last Light. Note that I wasn't trying to get those - I was after mister nice guy rainbows and fluffy kittens mode but something got screwed up. It MAY have been the amount of commies and nazis and bandits I shot in the face but I only ended up doing that because I kept screwing up the stealth mode smash in the face non lethal stuff. I'm trying again in Metro 2033 but since things went all to hell after Hole Station and I met the Nazi Rangers on the surface, I'm having the horrible sensation that I'm going to not get the nice guy ending again.

The games are certainly the best survival horror games I've played since the Stalker trilogy. There's been many times in the Metro and surface in both games that I've been utterly terrified, not just my character - it's the atmosphere, plotting and locations that does it. Makes me regret even more the time I wasted playing Dead Money in New Vegas but that's probably a side track too far.

I hope there's a third game eventually.

Oh really when?

I kinda want one, and I kinda don't. It's not much of a spoiler either way by now but Artyom's story's over either way - he either died blowing the crap out of the Reds, what was left of the Spartans and himself when he detonated the self-destruct at D6, or it's the story of the young Dark One now.

There's probably room for a totally separate story starring another main character in another area of the Metro network, which is doable since the size of the bloody thing is ginormous and there's much of the surface world of the Dead City to explore that we have only got to glimpse at from a distance so far.

If they came up with a plausible reason for a third game, instead of rather Deep Silver saying "here's a new Metro game, fuck you give us money." I'd buy it.

The "morality point" system in Metro 2033 doesn't take things as granular as individual kills into account. There are specific decision points where you can get a "nice guy" point, a "ruthless bastard" point, or neither. Some stuff — like getting through an entire level in stealth mode without killing anyone — may count toward that, but killing one Nazi is the same as slaughtering the whole level, as far as points toward the ending is concerned.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.

Finally managed to get the Enlightened ending in Metro 2033 Redux. I stuck to my new "kill as few folks as possible" way of playing and this seemed to help a bit. I made an effort to use a guide at times so I got more Moral Points than the last time and this probably made more of a difference to be honest. I just noticed that I'd completed the game TWICE in Survival Ranger mode, which I think is the second hardest one after Survival Ranger Hardcore.

I still hate that last sequence in Ostankino Tower, where the Dark Ones put you in a trance and make you go down a mazy corridor thingy with lots of appearing and disappearing walls, floors and ceilings and put lots of gaps you have to jump over in the way. It didn't fit the rest of the game as far as I'm concerned - I died a lot, but then again I died a lot in the rest of the game too so...

Overall, I'd highly recommend it. It's a feck load more linear than Stalker: Clear Sky or Call of Pripyat, but it's just as scary as Shadow of Chernobyl.

edit

Meanwhile, in my second Last Light playthrough, the game has decided to disable Crouch Toggle and Toggle Weapons. So I don't get to change my grenade types, plant claymores or see how many medkits I have. Doesn't matter what buttons I pick for them to be remapped to, the functions are still disabled.

This is highly annoying. I've tried verifying game cache files and so on, and it's still happening. Didn't happen in Metro 2033 Redux so this is pissing me off even more.
