I have to agree, Starheart dude who has a weakness to wood is more interesting than "Lensmen-Magic Feather+Weaksauce WeaknessYellowWeakness!
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackIf DC really goes through with this, it will finally prove, once and for all, that James Robinson is utterly and totally incapable of writing any character that he did not invent (or totally reinvent).
Which would go far to explain why his original work is so good and everything he has done with established DC characters has stunk out loud on ice.
The whole point is not to make a new character. Established superheroes are much more well known, so for the publicity stunt + social progress thing to work, they need a well known character.
Which their final choice clearly isn't, but whatever.
A single phrase renders Christianity a delusional cultOkay, so the subject of our big reveal is that the "prominent" gay hero is someone who:
- Is the least known of the Green Lanterns (and does not wear what non-comic reading audiences would even recognize as a GL costume)
- Has been on television for maybe ten minutes total in his entire history
- Does not have and probably will not get his own comic
- Has been completely retconned so that he no longer bears any resemblance to the old guard veteran that comic fans who did know of him would recognize
- ... And got rid of his gay son in the process.
PROGRESS!
(Seriously, DC, couldn't you pick someone from Young Justice or something? One that didn't have only a cameo via old photo, I mean.)

Oh, you were serious. Let me laugh harder.

yep it's alan. and aparently this is robinsons solo choice, and was done because obsidian is no longer there. and they need a gay member. so just make his dad gay.
I do have to admit that what they did with alternate Superman was hilarious, particularly Luthor being constantly called racist.
Fight smart, not fair.Wow. Congratulations, DC. I really thought you were going to give us sexy lesbians, but you go for an athenian. Nice work.
Right, who wants a euro?
Ukrainian Red CrossI don't see how changing some newer character's sexual orientation would be any more progressive than making an old character gay. It would be more progressive to have new characters with diverse sexual orientations and ethnic backgrounds.
PS. DC and Marvel aren't the only comic publishers, even in North America and even DC publishes some other titles than ones based on over 70 year old superheroes.
IF you read the article then why do you fail to realize that
A. This wasnt made by DC editorial for some nefarious agenda, it was descion by Robinson ( an author who is widely acclaimed for his knowledge and respect of Golden Age DC ) for matters of simple artistic licenses he explains
ad
B. DC didn't hype this up and it wast a response to the Marvel Wedding thing (that they would have no idea was being done during this story's creation) It was an offhand comment made in London of all places that got picked up on the web circuit.
It's not DC that's making this some big deal it's us, and what does that say about our society?
Who said it was nefarious? DC's trying to do what any publisher does: sell books. Publicity helps do that, in theory. And as for the 'offhand comment', come on... the comment was made to generate some controversy and interest in the character, obviously.
Robinson's not done either. Get ready for some gender-flips. Will Ted Grant become Thelma Grant? Will Johnny Thunder become Jackie Thunder? The possibilities are endless, because heaven forbid we have an all-white, all male team.

"heaven forbid we have an all-white, all male team"
Wow. To be blunt, yeah, doing that would be bullshit. Having a team comprised entirely of white men would be stupid.
X-Men X-Pert, my blog where I talk about X-Men comics.Really, I don't get the comic writer worship, or even the focus on individuals that fans often give. Creative is a long, collaborative process and just because you did good before doesn't everything you do after will be of similar quality.
Then again, I don't really understand the appeal that keeps people reading Marvel or DC comics at all. They've changed a character no one asked to change, a character that by all rights should have his stories wrapped up and done with, bragging about an orientation no one really cares about because Super heroics go first, personal problems second and are mostly there to highlight the difficulties of super heroics and make a more believable character.
That they've introduced a half baked favoritism dripping reboot in the first place is enough reason not to care but I guess reboots are the in fad this decade. I'll just get Lio, Darkstorm or something if I'm actually paying for any more American comics.
Modified Ura-nage, Torture Rack

I feel the same way about using the Golden Age characters in this way. I wouldn't mind as much if they hadn't totally replaced the Old versions. Both of them. Both Earth-0 and Earth-2 JSA was erased for this. Personally I liked old Heroes training the new Gen of heroes, but nope everybody has to be young. And since now Alan is too young to have a gay son, they just make him gay.
